Legacy of the Force: Sacrifice (Un-shrunken Spoilers Herein)

Post by 000 »

So, a couple of people have gotten a hold of Sacrifice already.

Unsurprisingly, it seems that Mandies once again feature heavily.

Spoilers revealed so far:

- Mara kicks it. Finally.

- Luke offs Lumiya. Meh.

- Jacen starts calling himself Darth Caedus, and is kinda sorta officially a Sith Lord.

- Sintas Vel-- Bobby Fett's ex-wife, is still alive. Encased in carbonite. Yeah, seriously.

The Boba Fett thing is not surprising, given she has a figurative hard-on for everything Fandalorian. I'm sure he's gonna end up with her alive and well at the end and everything. Bleh.

As for the rest, that's pretty big, for modern SW publishing. :o
Since I see Lumiya appearing as a character in Inferno (on Wookieepedia, so that might be outdated info), does that mean she'll pop up as a Sith spirit?

Given that the twins of mediocrity have been killed, this may actually be worth reading.

The book also has a gay Mandalorian couple, apparently. :P

Yep. Happily married with an adopted daughter.

I'm gonna have to resist buying this one. It'll be godawful, sure, but I can't wait to see Lukie's reaction to Mara.

You know, that really doesn't work at all...

She can't write a book without having the Mandalorians in there, can she?
- Mara kicks it. Finally.

Interesting. Let's get Han next. He shouldn't be kicking ass like a 20 year old in every book.
- Luke offs Lumiya. Meh.
Yeah, didn't see that one coming. In related news, at the end of the series Jacen returns to the light (and either dies or not).
- Jacen starts calling himself Darth Caedus, and is kinda sorta officially a Sith Lord.
No surprise there.

Really? That's...yeah. Do they have a major role in the book, or are they just in the background?

Isn't Han protected by Lucas' YOU CAN'T KILL!! shield? Or is that just Luke?

Hmm, maybe. Well, one can hope. At least put him in retirement. I have more faith in a Jedi's survivablity in old age than I do Han Solo.

That mandate, if it exists, is pretty much moot by 137 ABY, when Luke appears as a Force Ghost. (And so do Mara in issue 11.)

Mara's not a ghost there, she's a bad acid trip.

I don't get it, Cade keeps taking those drugs to escape the ghostly apparitions, but every time it seems a Force Ghost pops up. First Luke, and then Mara and Anakin (in the aptly titled "Ghosts of Ossus"), so why reduce them to acid trips? Anakin's revealed himself to the living before.

Well obviously Luke can die of old age, but Lucas doesn't want writers to depict Luke's death in any form.
IIRC until Lucas stopped them, they were going to kill off Luke in the NJO book that offed Anakin instead.

Luke was a ghost, but Mara and Anakin weren't.
And this is stated where exactly?

O...k. I guess it's like with Yoda's species and Palpatine's origins, some things are just going to stay a secret just for fun. I can understand that. I just wish LFL would avoid using them over and over as time goes on, just let other characters or lesser events take over in those eras, if it's that "sensitive" to touch. I predict an upcoming series that focuses on Ben Skywalker's future, though. It seems like they're slowly setting him up as the next big thing in the Skywalker line.

In the comic itself. :P Cade says about eight times that he's high and/or Mara and Ani are hallucinations.

John Ostrander also confirmed it externally.

And for that, Karren Traviss, Shelly Shapiro, or whoever at LFL or Del Rey let her kill of my favorite EU character can go to hell... :x :finger:

Dude, she's like sixty. People who whinge about their 'favourite character' IN BOOKS ABOUT WAR IN WHICH THEY ARE WARRIORS are stupid.

Agree with you about how it's pointless to whine about characters getting killed. But fans of the character I think are entitled to complain if said character is killed by a shitty author.

After a lengthy and supposedly rather nasty duel-- which she apparently won-- it seems Jacen distracted her with a force-projected illusion and stabbed her in the leg with a poison dart. And then sat and watched while she tried to fight the poison off before succumbing to it.

With apologies to Mara fans: Bwa ha ha ha hah.
