Man, I'm sorry I mentioned the magic beams from War of the Worlds. Never thought it'd make you guys go into a geek off. Hah

What the hell is up with that review? Michael Bay supporter? Is he being oppressed or something?

Moriarty's just posting a review that was sent in by a nobody who attended a preview screening, but considering that it's AICN, it might as likely be something that was made up and sent in to see if they'd print it (which has happened before).

Yep, that's my point. He has no ethics and has a track record of just making shit up.

Also he's a cockhead and his gushing bullshit writing style makes me want to punch him.

Still, my point is that other than the brief introduction, the article isn't written by Moriarty. :P

Vlad, Optimus looks like Megas, and that bothers me somewhat.

I've got round to seeing The Transformers: The Movie on some two squid DVD found in the bargain bin and I must say it was some fun, cheesy and enjoyable bollocks. :P

It is also surprisingly dark and graphic for a U rated family movie, with various important characters getting randomly bumped off and lots of mass robot deaths (usually involving Unicron when he is swallowing up planatoids or that scary four faced freak running a Kangaroo court). The animation is showing it's age and is slightly cheap looking, but it has a certain energy and understated subtly to it. The musical score is dead dated and tacky, but the 70s/80s Glam rock rendition of the Transformers' theme tune is excellent.

Many of the voice artists for the characters sound vaguely familiar, although Eric Idle and Leonard Nimoy are instantly recognisable. And the late Orson Wells was suitably unforgettable as Unicron, however he didn't think much of his final movie role: "I play a big toy who attacks a bunch of smaller toys."

Question: Given some of the TV spots and the latest trailer mentioning "they can take any shape", does that mean they could still become any other vehicle relative to their mass rather than what they appear to be from the shots so far?

I mean, could Starscream, for instance, become a large armoured ground vehicle instead of a Raptor, or are they not going with that angle? It would seem odd, given once you know what form they've taken, you'd be looking out for any MH-53s, for instance, flying down the streets of LA or something.

I guess Scorponok's always been shit out of luck. Don't see many giant mechanical scorpions.

I actually don't know what's going on with Scorponok beyond 'zomg kewl scorpion lol'. It's not a 'disguise'. :)

The prequel comic shows them simply scanning vehicles and altering their bodies and altforms (slightly) to fit. In the DS game you can apparently scan any similar-sized vehicle in the game and disguise yourself as that. I don't know if the movie shows them doing this, though.

Ah, cool. I'll have to get that comic and the game eventually. Checking all the TV spots now, I notice Scorponok at least screw over some soldiers and give a good indication of his size. He's only ickle really.

I think the toy Scorponok turns into a robot, but the movie one just is a big robot scorpion. It's "disguise" is that it's really good at hiding in sand, apparently. The screenwriters wanted to show a "beast" Transformer along the lines of a Dinobot or Insecticon.

This is the guy they want to use to win over "young people?" Are they completely daft? I'd rather vote for a pile of shit than a Jesus freak social regressive.
Here's hoping that his political career goes down in flames and, hopefully, a hilarious gay sex scandal.

And they wanted the CGI pron of him leaping out of the sand behind running soldiers. Perfecto, trailer shot!

I actually think it's funny that that shot is in all the trailers. Sure, it's a nice shot, but no one associates "giant robot scorpion fighting soldiers" with Transformers.

Though from some of the shots in the alternate trailer and the most recent TV spot, it looks like Scorponok gets pounded by an A-10 air strike after his attack on the soldiers. That could certainly be fun viewing. He's one of the Decepticons that are wussy enough for the humans to actually fight sucessfully, so they can be all confident when Starscream, Blackout, Brawl, and Megatron show up.

Yeah, my feeling is that many of the cast will die like that: they'll do Something Mean, and then a human/Autobot counterattack will kill them. At least it's better than constantly defeating the same guy but letting him 'escape somehow' - particularly when he's a giant scorpion and can't escape without an airlift. :)

I suppose the human counterattack could be worse. They could be using weird hovering vehicles while being back up by a flying woman dressed in tin foil. Rapid Anti-robot Attack Team (RAAT) and Circuitbreaker go!

The trailer rocked. :) I really look forward to serious shit in this movie.

I just hope one of the transformers, lands on a CV then breaks the ship in parts. Oh, how I'd love to see that kind of CGI porn. Though by the looks of it, flying tanks and a razed military base look cool enough too.

And there's already plans for a sequel.. :)

Does anyone know, how is the Transformers FTL functioning explained in movie? I mean, they're flying without the Ark, right? Technically that means they are all FTL-capable, which makes me kinda wonder....

Originally there were some, IIRC, who were indeed FTL capable. They turned into space shuttles, rockets, etc. Some jets also. Mostly though unless you had a dedicated flying alternate form, you were forced to utilize a spaceship.
