Dug up System Shock 2 and decided to play back through the game again in preparation for Bioshock. However serious problem. Apparently the game thinks I don't have a 3D card installed period. Thinking it's a drive issue I'm testing random Nvida drives trying to find one that will run the game.
Hints, Suggestions?
And side note, whatever happen to that Graphical update of SS2 I remember hearing about here like two years ago.

There's a patch for this which is here.
And as far as I know none of the graphic mods were ever finished, although there's a nice one with decent models.

Found that one, "Rebirth" it was called?Stark wrote:There's a patch for this which is here.

Watlol! Dammit. It's the 'System Shock 2 Xp/multithread fix'. I've got it, but I don't know where it's hosted anymore. Wait, FileFront.
And yeah, Rebirth. Again, I don't know where it's hosted and googling 'system shock rebirth' gets you a pile of poo. It was stopped, then restarted by someone else, and it was nearly all the models (definately all the early monsters anyway). Shame about the huge hitboxes, though - makes coop really hard.

Oh shit, that's not the patcher, that's the pre-patched exe. Sorry. Err... out there in the internets there's a *patcher* that will patch any of the .exes (even cracked ones) to fix it, but my google-fu is weak and I can't find it (aside from that old, broken link in the first post).
EDIT - I found instructions to manually edit the .exe to fix the multithread issue here. I'm not sure if they work, but I assume they do what the patcher did.
EDIT2 - I have to go out, but this thread on ttgl has links to pages that might help AND Rebirth.

Did I mention that Leena and I have been playing this through in co-op recently? Got the thing to run in XP but the multiplayer never worked, so I dug out a couple of the old win2K machines to run it on. We're currently on the Rickenbacker.
Co-op is far too easy, unfortunately. Just the changes to the respawn system is bad (ie, you can just keep dying over and over until you get past, even without res suites) but being in two places with double inventory makes it even easier. I belive you can even play four player, which would be retarded.
And the huge hitboxes are hell annoying. Try to shoot over your partners shoulder? Too bad, you just killed your partner.
