Modern Equivalent of Starsiege Tribes

Post by raptor3x »

I used to be really into Tribes and then Tribes 2. I looked into the most recent incarnation, Tribes: Vengeance, and it seems to have had all support pulled by the developer. Does anyone know of anything popular and modern that would have similar gameplay?

Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 are about as close as you can get nowadays. Both are very popular, though I recommend Project Reality for the former. It enhances the teamplay aspect of BF2 and just generally makes the game what it should have been.

For the future, you might want to look at TeamFortress 2, which has recently resurfaced from vaporland in a new guise.

I hated seeing Tribes Vengeance dropped. Its a great game and I liked it better than Tribes 2. Hopefully Starsiege 2845 will turn out alright.

Maybe there's been another development but I'm pretty sure Starsiege 2845 was cancelled.

As for Battlefield 2/2142, I've tried them but I've never been into games that use realistic guns like that. Thanks for the suggestion though, I appreciate it.

Meh. Vengance's art department was dead asleep. A few of the armors had style, most were mediocre, and the vehicles were so amusingly lame that...well, I'll take my Thundersword, thank you very much. As for the Battlefield games, they have two major things against them when taken against Tribes. First, groundbound. Second, EA.

This is one of the main things that makes me hate most FPSs, even if they have good weapons and CTF.

I so miss the original tribes using Shifter mod. Damn I racked up so many hours on that it wasn't funny. One of the two games I was actually in a clan for...oh those were the days, before VOIP, desperately trying to type 'INCOMING SCOUTS!' while chasing aircraft across the map dodging ridge lines...

Two things:

One, BF2142 doesn't use realistic weapons.
Two, BF2142 is actually pretty damned mobile. In Titan mode you could play a whole round and never let your feet touch dirt.

It's not the same. A huge part of the gameplay in tribes is "skii'ing" and jetpacks, and the combination of the two to skii at high speed. Plus 2142 doesn't have grappling hooks :P

Favorite moment from Tribes 2.

Killing a Shrike in a Beowulf.

Without a gunner.
