Which could explain why Batman got really pissed off when the SAS "Special Branch" came after him. The bat has a territory problem that would put most wolves to shame.

Since when did Monaghan ever work for the IRA? I followed the title pretty closely and I remember that Monaghan was pretty much raised by Sean Noonan, pub owner/former hitman/ex-marine and Korean War veteran. His mother was from Northern Ireland, but fled to get away from Monaghan's father (who was not her husband). Monaghan was never in the IRA, and only went to Ireland once (and killed dear old Dad while he was there).

And Monaghan doesn't still live in Gotham. He doesn't live anywhere, because he's dead. Garth Ennis killed him and Nat the Hat in the last issue of the series. They had a run in with some shady government spooks who worked for one of those agencies that's not supposed to exist.

Hmmm...I'm wondering because the closest thing Monaghan had to anything Irish was his blood.

Yeah he's dead but he lived in one odd part of Gotham...I dunno how Ennis got that deal honestly(to write about someone in Gotham that kills for a living and having only to reference to Bats ONCE, is impressive of it itself)

As for the IRA, his origin was that he was raised by Sean, after his mother left him at a orphange doorstep, and basically he served a stint in the armed forces.
