MGS4: Confirmed for X-Box 360.

Formely announced as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will now also be released on Xbox 360, with a cut-down Nintendo Wii version also a possibility, according to online reports.

The new game in the multi-million selling franchise will feature objective-based missions, while the Xbox 360 version will also include exclusive content and gameplay not offered in the PS3 edition.

Starring the infamous character Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, as with other titles in the series, is being created by renowned designer Hideo Kojima.

A Konami spokesman said: "The game is set after the events of MGS2 and players will reprise the role of top secret agent Solid Snake with appearances by characters throughout the MGS series. With the addition of online capability, MGS4 is a leading product and will signal the dawn of a new gaming era for the MGS series."

The firm also added: "MGS4 brings a totally new concept and situation, resulting in the toughest Metal Gear infiltration mission ever devised."

Industry insiders claim publisher Konami is also in talks with Nintendo to bring a cut-down MGS game to the Wii.

A moderator on Gamespot claims to have some kind of link disproving this website's claim. He's getting it to me now.

Given the situation. I don't think it's that far out. Kojima has been hinting over and over again about an attempt on the 360.

This sends up red flags to me. Would Konami really be stupid enough to let it be known that the 360 version would feature extra content before the PS3 version has even been released?

Possibly. If they're signing a deal with the X-Box to move a lot of their stuff there, they may want the Japanese crowd, who does not like the Huegbox, to buy some. By telling them there will be new content, it encourages them not only to not buy the PS3 now, but not to buy it later either, and to perhaps get an X-Box now and maybe buy some other games as well.

I'll wait until I read it fully confirmed on both Joystiq and Kotaku (lolz x2). Right now both are totally mum on the subject.

But if this ends up being at all true, then yeah, the PS3 will literally have nothing to maintain personal interest.

We've got a virtually unheard of site (I've never been there before) making a totally unsubstantiated claim with no references to back it up and only citing "online reports" (not an official press release, or even insiders).

This is hardly confirmed. People are just too quick to jump on the Sony-hate bandwagon and believe any negative news they hear.

Sure, if the launch was simultaneous, why would they care which one people would buy?

It's hardly something that's unexpected at this point though. There have been rumblings from Squenix about FF13 being multiplatform, and a lot of PS3 exclusives are attaching lines to Wii, 360, or both.

There was a podcast not too long ago from 1up concerning MSG4's cross-platform development, so an official annoucement on the matter is hardly that surprising.

Sure, it might not come to pass, but if it does, would anyone here really be surprised at this point?

For all the doom and gloom people are spreading, the PS3 isn't going to die. Sony's simply not going to let that happen. Blu-Ray is winning the format wars at the moment, and it's not like the PS3 doesn't work, it just won't be the massive success that the first two consoles were.

No matter how you slice it, multiplatform games will still be coming out for it. Sony will limp along until the next generation, at which point we can hope it will learn from its mistakes.

PS3 exclusive for 2007 IIRC. And its due out at the end of the year. So yeah. If you can't wait the 3 weeks until it hit shelves for 360 and PC on 01/01/2008 fine...

If this is true and it will come to the Xbox 360, then I've just lost the only reason I even care for the PS3 anymore.

I think I'll be saving for an Xbox 360 Elite when MGS4 comes about. Sony are in REAL trouble now.

If MGS4 really does go multi-platform, then I'll have enough justifications to get a 360 myself. Til now I was pretty pissed at Sony that game was going to be exclusive to a shitty system.

Indeed. The only thing I have against the Xbox is too many generic shitty games with SHINIER HD GRAPHICS and the whole paying for playing online crap. Other than that, if they pick-up all the disillusioned developers who would otherwise be loyal to Sony, then effectively MS has become Sony in my mind.

It's not like a give a shit about Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, I just want decent gaming. A Wii shall be mine when better games come out, though I'd not expect MGS4 on Wii to be all that good, bar the controls being different.

It would be awesome if they made PSP style (side-story) metal gear games on Wii though, specifically with the Wii controls in mind when they did it. Then they wouldn't have to focus quite so much on graphics.

Yeah, the Portable Ops. game is canon and quite enjoyable from what I hear, unlike the non-canon games like Ac!d and so on. The Wii could act like the GC did in having spin-offs, like how they handled the Resi franchise with titles shifting from the PS2 to the GC later on in its life.
