The same way they've always worked? Just look at any squad tactical, or even any ol' CRPG with ranged weapons, even if they're just bows and arrows. Replace arrows with bullets.InnocentBystander wrote:I've never played fallout, but how would ranged weapons work (it has them right..?) without first person?

Did someone say GATLING GUN?
Have you played X-Com or Jagged Alliance?
Ranged weapons can either single shot or burst. If they burst there's a cone of burst where the bullets spread (of course if you're one square away from them all the bullets hit which makes for hilariously brutal death sequences.)
You can also call parts of the body to hit, if you're not bursting.

Well if I remember right you can order your henchmen to "be careful not to hit me" or "make sure you don't hit me" or "don't worry if you hit me" in Fallout 2.
Marcus was best with turbo plasma rifle anyway. The only person I trusted with a burst weapon was myself, and only because I always closed to point blank range before bursting. Anything else is just a waste of bullets. Always better to go for the eyes with a single shot at range than attempt a long ranged burst. If I wanted AoE damage, I'd pull out my rocket launcher. Or, if they were too far away and my skill wasn't high enough to shoot for the groin or eyes, I'd just hide behind a piece of terrain until they closed and I could go point blank and burst with a SMG.

Yes. And there are mods for Fallout 1 that make the infamous Ian and other companions more useful and less stupid.brianeyci wrote:Well if I remember right you can order your henchmen to "be careful not to hit me" or "make sure you don't hit me" or "don't worry if you hit me" in Fallout 2.
Still, getting ripped apart by your allies now and then was part of Fallout's charm.

If you have high enough speech skill, you can actually get him to admit that he used to be a sniper, but he was mocked by the other mutants so he started carrying around big guns. You can give him long-ranged weapons and he'll be a god with them.Cao Cao wrote:Ah yes, good old eye and groin shots.
And Marcus with a gatling gun shredding all your enemies, your allies and yourself because he decided to shoot right through you. Good times..

The more I think about it, the more I like it. That NMA guy is right, the music on the main page IS like the tanker scene music. The aircraft carrier is obviously an allusion to the tanker.
Now the only thing missing is the funny. There better be a joke in one of those screens, or the trailer. I'd even settle for an easter egg. Better not take itself too seriously. Better not be so "realistic" that they put in all the real weapons and forget the 10mm pistols, mega power fists and 9mm sniper rifles.

Looks good. Though the bright sky is kinda offsetting the post-apocalyptic feel. It would better be grim and cloudy
Lì ci sono chiese, macerie, moschee e questure, lì frontiere, prezzi inaccessibile e freddure
Lì paludi, minacce, cecchini coi fucili, documenti, file notturne e clandestini
Qui incontri, lotte, passi sincronizzati, colori, capannelli non autorizzati,
Uccelli migratori, reti, informazioni, piazze di Tutti i like pazze di passioni...

Assalti Frontali
This last one looks very much in style with the older games. I'd disagree about the bright sky - for me, its the best kind of post apocalyptic moment - the sky is shining, the grass is swaying in the wind and oh, look, there is a broke down, half covered in dirt, twisted remains of a car. It has an extra dose of that feeling of how civilisation stopped while the world went on, or how natural beauty did not die, but humanity did. All in all, I quite like that contrast. There's something intrinsically scarier for me in the concept of the Earth moving on from its humanity phase then in a utter lifeless wasteland scene.Stas Bush wrote:Looks good. Coolness. Honestly I love the look of both DC and NY, and the feel of that last pic was great.
If they have humor in their writing then this promises to be awesome. Will it appease the beast known as Fallout Fans? No, but nothing but Fallout 2.1 would do that....and even then.

There's two more, actually. The new DC one and another one in an un-named location. It's some city with a group of people standing around like they just got a big 4-point deer, except it's some guy in power armor, or something similar. Pretty nifty looking, actually. The town looks like something in New Reno from Fallout 2.Vympel wrote:Updated again- another DC picture.
I've already mentioned that one, it came out last week:Erik von Nein wrote:

What have they done to my Power Armour?
Good lord. The tagline is "War never changes", not "Powered armor suits and weapons never change." I can only imagine what the wailing is like on the Bethesda forums.
Jesus, listening to you, I'd thought you were bitching about something like when the Hercules Mk2 was introduced in FS2.
Do not meddle in the affairs of insomniacs, for they are cranky and can do things to you while you sleep.
