WH40K: Model and Game Thread 2
Well, since the last one has sunk deep into the depths of the forum, I suppose I'll start a new one since I'm back in Ayr and heading back to the local Workshop.
To start things off, a little conversion I did this afternoon
So what have the other 40k'ers been up to?

Heh, I was just thinking about this thread. I've got a lot of new stuff (and a better camera) so I'll find some time and post a bunch of the things I've been working on sometime this weekend.

I sold my collection (mostly SM, some Guard) on ebay c ouple months ago and made about £250 So if you've got enough decent stuff you could do without and need the money, it's a good way to go...
I've noticed Forge World seem to be much more active recently than they were while I was playing a year or two ago, is it because they're making more profit? They're churning out new army books and models at a nippy rate.

A couple more models, that first one is going to be a librarian with a force weapon when it's done. These two are a partially painted company champion and a deathwatch captain.

To be honest I've pretty much stopped playing 40K and gone over to WFB. My Chaos and Tau armies are gathering dust while my Undead lurch across the table while I cry "Ghouls!" in a sinister voice (Like, "Ghooooouuulllsss!".)
I still play Necromunda whenever I can though (Van Saar for life, yo!)

It's been a good while since I've actually done any 40k modeling. The college gaming group had started towards Warmachine, so I've largely switched systems. And away from college my ambition for miniatures has gone down some.
But I figure I'll post the WH40k, and if people are interested my Warmachine stuff.
My some-what custom Chaplain. He's made from a Gamesday-exclusive Chaos Champion, the wings are from a VOID figure, and the rest are some miscellaneous bitz.
My first Blood Angels Librarians. Largely based on Mephiston with a few bitz added, mostly a Seraphim jump pack and combat sheild.
My second Librarian, a much more extensive custom. I built him out of a Force Commander, a Chaos possession head, some Wood Elf bitz, and some part off the assualt marine sprue.
And my Librarian's familiar. It's made from a Necron Scarab and the wings to the aquila in the vehicle accessory sprue. An expedient familiar that turned out well.
My Blood Angels techmarine. Standard BA Honor Guard figure with Beserker legs and a bolt gun.
Blood Angels predator, decked out with the Chaos sprue 'dozer blade.
Grey Knights Brother-Captain
The Grey Knights dreadnaught. It's got the large lascannon because at one point I ran it as a VDR dread with a long-las set up.
The Rhino for my daemonhunters force. Nothing too special, just a bit of decoration and some freehand painting.
And last the mighty Land Raider

Yar!
I've got the typical 'in progress' army. They're an Iron Hands offshoot, so bionics abound. I've also magnetized all the vehicles so I can change them around however I like.

I summon ye thread, from yon depths of Page the Second.
So, I finally got around to taking those pics. Though I'm still jealous of you bastards with these flawless pictures of models... it's still hit and miss with my camera as near as I can tell. Anyways, way back yonder when the 4th Edition Marines hit the States I put together a prototype command squad for my new Chapter, the Archon Knights, complete with a captain mounted on a (cyber)horse, and posted a few pics of them in AMP (probably just A&P back then, teehee). For whatever reason I never got around to posting better pics of them and their newer battle-brothers, so at long last here they are.
Command Squad (Left to Right) -- Champion, Apothecary, Sergeant, Captain, Standard Bearer, Plasma Gunner
About 98% painted (not including bases; too lazy). I'm notoriously poor at ever getting anything to 100%, there's always some niggling detail I never get around to dealing with.
As I went into the first time I posted these guys, they're primarily 4th Edition Space Marine Commander and Command Squad pieces, with significant Bretonnian Knights of the Realm additions and some miscellaneous bitz from my bitz binz. (Poorly done) Green Stuff on the legs of the Captain (actually Bretonnian legs) to flare them out to look like power armor.
_______
So then awhile back they came out with the Black Templar supplement stuff. I took one look at all the kits and immediately said "OMG ARCHONS". So naturally I had to build a new and improved prototype for my Chapter, since virtually all future work would make use of the Black Templar kits, as they were exactly what I was looking for in terms of tabards and surcoats, as well as other knightly bitz. The result was a Reclusiam Squad, led by one of the Chaplain models that came out at the same time.
Detail: Link
Same as before, except using the Black Templar Command Squad kit and lots of BT bitz. No Green Stuff. 95% painted.
_______
In the same vein, I snatched up a box of Black Templar Sword Brethren, as they were perfect for my Paladins (Veterans). No conversions there. I did, however, make a Knight-Commander (Veteran Sergeant) who was moderately converted and is pictured here as well. Unfortunately, he was brutally crushed in a horrific accident (sent me to the hospital for several days too, but that's immaterial) and was smashed into a billion pieces. He's been reconstructed as well as possible, but you can still see the signs of his grievous injury.
Link
Bretonnian and BT bitz and pieces as before, with the addition of Devastator crouching legs. Some choppy choppy to make it all fit. 90% painted.
_______
So, what's GW good at? Screwing you, of course, and what better way to do it than to release a supplement of the one other Chapter in existence whose bitz I would need for making my own Chapter. At least if the Dark Angels were never released I wouldn't really know what I was missing, but nooooooo. So, in my quest to continually obsolete my beautifully-crafted constructions, I made yet another prototype with the new DA stuff and the concurrently released Librarian.
Link 1
Link 2
Dark Angels Command Squad kit. Same bitz, new stuff to play with. 0% painted. Obviously.
_______
Of course, I have Guard I oughtn't neglect. I recently dug up a 3rd Edition Leman Russ kit I've had for years and never built for some reason. With the addition of some choice bitz and some choppy choppy, I created the company command tank for any potential Armored Company deployments.
Side view: Link
Heavy stubber constructed from Guard Weapons Team autocannon, heavy bolter ammo box, and the pintle storm bolter bitz from the LR kit. Added various other bitz, borrowing spare antennae and smoke dischargers from other vehicle kits. Cadian vox set; Cadian lasgun, ammunition and grenades (not pictured); purity seals, scrolls, etc.; dreadnought sarcophagus cover; Black Templar sword icon (not pictured); Space Marine H/K missile system; Guard Weapons Team missile.
_______
Finally, as part of my Super Happy Fun Time Imperial Guard Critical Rebuild and Comprehensive Overhaul (SHFTIGCRCO), I put together a second sniper rifle-equipped special weapons squad, this one from scratch. I'm rather fond of the little guys... (and I swear by snipers. Be Pinned, fools, be Pinned! Hahaha...)
Link
Constructed from Cadian Guardsmen and Catachan Heavy Weapons Team. Possibly a few miscellaneous bitz, but everything of consequence comes from those two kits.

I'm just starting a Tau army, and this railhead is the only thing I'm completed so far. The burst cannons don't really fit in well to their slots, and so the reason they are at those odd angles is because thats the only way I can get them onto the tank.
Here's a top view of her:
The first model I put together was my commander. Once he was assembled, however, I realized I'm not very good at this arts and crafts shit, so I going to do up all the little guys before coming back and painting my leader.

Looking good, A-Wing. You might want to look into investing in a metal file, it can help grind down those uncooperative pieces and make them all fit nice and snug.
Also, did you glue the turret(s)? You generally don't need to, most guns can be put together so they tilt and swivel, which can make for easier obligatory battlefield posing, and it also helps signify Weapon Destroyed if necessary.

I didn't glue the turrets, or the engines, but the small sensor turret kinda got stuck anyway. It doesn't mater though, the railgun's whats important. And thanks for the advice ont he file, I'll see about that.Brother-Captain Gaius wrote:Looking good, A-Wing. Well, I had a game at the local GW last night. My marines vs. a Khorne chaos army.
He got first turn and his infiltrators closed quickly with me, but my marines held fast (despite the heavy weapons all missing) and poured on the fire. In the end a bit of true grit and faith in the holy bolter swung the day. In the end most of his army died to bolter armed marines. His demon prince of khorne got swarmed under by a horde of bolter armed marines in hand to hand.
All in all a very fun game.

Jinkies, I'd almost think you borrowed my Hive Fleet Hodag colors from last year:
I'll try to recall what all I've done in recent months, as I use Penny Arcade and Eternity of War for my Warhammer discussion needs.
Here's some of my more recent Angels Beatum Chapter minis:
Part of my 7-man Crimson Fists Kill-Team, using mostly extra ebayed models, which has been fun to paint:
Thousand Sons, picked up a box for cheap and using some extra Chaos Marines from other projects to make an overpriced unit of Chosen Sorcerers.
Kitchin Boyz!
Here's my current Warhammer Fantasy project:

That Chaplain is wicked, Uts. I was all proud of mine and now I think he looks like crap compared to yours, thanks a lot.
Also didn't figure you for the Bretonnian type.
