I voted for The Core.
A friend of mine and I were lazing about one day and poppped it in to watch. The premise was an atrocity but we hoped it may have been entertaining.

Then they lit a peach on fire with a blowtorch. It only got worse from there.

It was bad enough that later that day when a friend popped by to tell us he'd been in a fender bender (Car bumper was just dinged) our response was "Yeah, but you didn't have to watch The Core." His response was "Dear Lord. You guys need a beer." He's a Geo major. He felt bad for not warning us about how bad it was.

It's worse than that. It turns out that the Earth's core has stopped spinning thanks to an evil U.S. government earthquake machine of doom.

If you want to have crazy-ass subterranean fantasy films with no resemblance to science, you should just go the whole nine yards to CampVille, and have Mole People tunneling under our cities to attack us. Now that would be a fun movie.
And it would probably have less scientific inaccuracies too.

The Core is all things hilarious. From the SEVERAL DOZEN DEAD PACEMAKER USERS! in one scene at the start, to landing the Space Shuttle in a storm sewer and then on to geek versus the Internet and microwaves cutting bridges (because microwaves cannot enter the atmosphere when the core is moving... wait...), it's one big thrill ride of dumb.

I found it highly entertaining, especially prior to it coming out and the director, a supposed physics or geology major, defended it.

The Robot Chicken skit of terrorism that has this movie mentioned and linked to TERRORISM! is piss funny.

Armageddon is great Michael Bay popcorn schtick and TDAT was fun, although had everything cool happen in the first act practically and then the last two acts were somewhat less awe inspiring. At least in Deep Impact they had skyscrapers collapse when the giant wave hit NYC. Never saw that in TDAT.

Wow. after reading their analysis of SW Episode III, I may have to post that up here in the SW forum and rip it apart. He's analyzing Star Wars based on modern earth physics and not at all taking into account 1:character motivations 2:superior starwars technology.

I believe that was actually done here already. When I saw Stupid Movie Physics being linked to in this thread, I remembered that old SD.net thread and tried to search for it, but couldn't. Can anyone else find it?

I recall a 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth' movie which featured dinosaurs, a race of immortal women and a main character scientist who got into brawls for a living. That's how to make a movie about going underground.

Do you mean At the Earth's Core? I was cheering for the Meihars. But I did like this line: "You cannot mesmerize me. I'm British!".

There were two such films: the aforementioned one featuring Peter Cushing (who uttered that wonderful line) from the 1970s, and 1959's Journey To The Centre Of The Earth —from the Jules Verne novel and starring James Mason and Pat Boone. No underground amazon race but dinosaurs aplenty in that one.

The Core was utter shit. I didn't see it at the movies (thank god) but saw it at some discount/bargain DVD bin and thought, "What the hell?" and picked it up. A rather large mistake on my part.

As already pointed out, the entire movie was an insult. TDaT is crap, but The Core is crap times a hundred.

Aye. But that doesn't compare to the horror of it having David Hasselhoff.

Nah, seriously: they smashed their transport through a huge window on a space station and jumped out of it (w/o suits) laserguns blasting left and right, IIRC.

Do you know what it's called (or the year/notable actors)? It was so mad, and I'd like to see it again.

Not enough revolver toting Maoris, I'm afraid. Also, I'm not sure if there was a drilling machine in the miniseries - I didn't see the beginning, but there was lots of hiking.
