I can't help but think that the Space station they built mid-galaxy is set up for this. I could be wrong though.

And, it will have a extra large puddle jumper called USS Non-Compliant .
For reasons beyond me, C4, E4 and Five point blank refuse to show SG1 beyond series 8 and Atlantis series 2. one is most miffed.

Which has what, exactly, to do with the fact that the Stargate franchise has been milked to death (much as I wish it were still going strong)?Stormbringer wrote:Yeah, because it's not like the previous two weren't spun off from a largely forgettable action movie.frogcurry wrote:Cue the sound of a decent idea being milked to death again.
Can't they try coming up with something a bit... different?
There's nothing wrong with spinoffs in themselves. But doing a spinoff off a spinoff that's already been done to death is maybe not such a hot idea?
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

It has to do with the concept of another spin-off of the spin-off precisely because the whole enterprise has been from Day One a cash in.Batman wrote:Which has what, exactly, to do with the fact that the Stargate franchise has been milked to death (much as I wish it were still going strong)?
I love the indignation behind all this but the fact remains that SG-1 itself began the milking to death of it by starting the franchising. Yet you and all the other Mastur-gaters want to pretend that it's something it's not and never was. By starting out to create a franchise, or at least a bunch of cash ins to the movie, it pretty much made the mercenary attitude inevitable however much people wish it wasn't so. It's the same reason that Paramount kept pumping out Star Trek series, there was an audience that would watch (if only out of demented loyalty).
And to the TV executives, why worry about creating something new when the fanboys will drink toilet water and call it Dom Pérignon?

They said it's going to happen in present day...
That leaves three options.
1. SG-2?
2. We get to follow the russians around.
3. Alternate universe where Earth is ruled by communists.
I'm just not seeing how this could work. The only way they can keep it "In the present day" is by attaching it to earth. And as far as I know (I could be wrong, I haven't seen every episode...)
There are only two programs, one in the U.S. and the one in Russia. That means it would have to once again be attached to the military, and that means an SG-X. I doubt they will follow any russian teams...
How else could this work? Damn it, I want more info!

Take a good look at the working title, it should give a very basic idea on what they're planningColonialAdmiral wrote: How else could this work? Damn it, I want more info!
Stargate: Universe
...If you need more help consider the names of the previous series
Stargate: SG-1, dealt with the exploits of a team named..."SG-1"
Stargate: Atlantis, involved..."Atlantis"
Stargate: Universe, would involve the..."Universe"

And they haven't explored the "Universe?"(well galaxy...) already in SG-1?
I'm just trying to figure out the character base in this new seires. Who will it involve? Oh, well, it will probably be a long while till they figure out the show, and it might not even be picked up by execs. I'll probably have forgoten about it anyways by then...

Perhaps it would be better to envision it's title as 'SG: Looks Like We Found A Loophole, MGM! SUCK IT!'. That's my guess, though.

Reading at Gateworld that both Atlantis and SG-1 latest were at 1.2 (which frankly I can't blame them as the episode previews I've seen make my eyes roll), I doubt this third series will lift off too well if it even gets approved at all.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

actually, I believe that there is a lot of potential in this series!
We have the Ori more or less eliminated as a threat and now Earth is in posession of Asgard technology, enabling them to truly explore the whole universe! I see a mighty human race beginning to conquer other species and transforming into the bad guys or something like that, a tiny bit like SW. Maybe the "old" SG - 1 guys show up now and then to spice the whole thing up. Further on we could have a rebellion or a civil war on earth or whatever floats their boat.
Of course these ideas are nothing essentially new, but new to SG-verse anyway.

Deep Space Nine at least had a new idea compared to other Star Trek Series. TNG, VOY and the OS all focussed on a ship flying around the galaxy with no general looking back. DS9 had a fixed point more or less which made it more appealing.
Stargate seems to be coming from the opposite direction. ALL their series are essentially stuck to single point wether it be Earth SGC or Atlantis. If they were going to try something different then realistically that leaves us with a Stargate ship flying around like in Voyager, TNG, OS.
Dosent seem all that worth while given the lack of viable things to expand on for a series. The thing that would bother me is the attempt to create more super bad guys. Expanding it into the Universe certainly allows a better situation to find them but considering how the Wraith were developed its going to end up being stupid.
I would think the only way to create a new series would be with a ship explorer anyway. It dosent make that much sense for every galaxy to have access to Stargates and I was under the impression the Ancients had only been in two galaxies. The only way that would work is if the Ori, Asgard and Replicators have been seeding other galaxies.

What gave you that impression? The Ancients crossed the Universe until they reached Terra. They could have dropped of colonies all the way to Milkyway.PREDATOR490 wrote:it dosent make that much sense for every galaxy to have access to Stargates and I was under the impression the Ancients had only been in two galaxies.

The cartoon was AWESOME. Draga was HOT. Ahem.neoolong wrote:They could go back to the concepts of the cartoon.
Seriously the animation and writing quality was pretty good as saturday morning fare goes. I'm suprised it tanked so badly; might be the moralising at the end, 80s cartoons all tended to have that but it seems much rarer today.
