It's bad if you can't mass enough force against their fleets when they attack you. It doesn't matter if the thermonukes that smash their shields and slag their hulls come from destroyers or battleships, just that you have enough. Big ships have a survivability advantage, but tend to be slower and you have the "eggs in one basket" syndrome.Darkevilme wrote:Hmm, i've just recently noticed that i seem to be a little short on heavy ships compared to several other civilizations. is that bad?
The Excellent Prismatic Spray. For when you absolutely, positively must kill a motherfucker. Accept no substitutions. Contact a magician of the later Aeons for details. Some conditions may apply.

There is also the fact that a capital warship might come back gutted but repairable, whereas a bunch of little ships spent in attritional tactics are going to be just vapor. So you'll probably want at least some capital warships in your arsenal.Imperial Overlord wrote:It's bad if you can't mass enough force against their fleets when they attack you. I don't see how army funding would be much different than navy funding, and an extra cruiser, while not much, is not quite a drop in the bucket.Thirdfain wrote:The way I see it, a naiton's Army budget is actually going to be pretty huge. Adding 10 points of funding is actually a drop in the bucket, so to speak, and would represent only a marginal overrall improvement or a couple elite units.

True; I'll fix that.Rawtooth wrote:Noble Ire, your FTL drive isn't kosher with the rules. Any drive can be interdicted.
And I'm still wondering about the possibility of an "occupation" bonus for specialized planetary assault ships.

Redleader, a couple of points I noticed immediately:Redleader34 wrote:Is my OOB all Kosher?
1. Fighters- you do not need to spend points on fighters, they come free with carriers.
2. Your designations are a little screwy, such as that 30-point "cruiser." Seeing as 20 points represents a battleship, a 30-point vessel would be considered a heavy capital ship.
You also spend points on attack and defense, which is not necessary- overly complex, just add those to the ship's main cost.
Ships are not equipped with the inertial canceller. They're fanatics, but they're not stupid. Any damage to that could kill them even if they could otherwise still fight. The inertial cancellers are used on missiles. Gives a much higher realspace speed than their energy would ordinarily allow. The explosion is merely physics's way of fixing up the violations of CoE and/or CoM that would otherwise occur from this. They can't explode with more energy than was put into accelerating the object in the first place. I'm not trying to have my ships explode upon death, or create a bomb inside someone's capital secretly (that would require you to be able to give the missile megatons of energy before it left the capital anyway, and which point, why not just use a regular bomb. You'd need it to give it enough energy anyway)SirNitram wrote:Beowulf... I know my OOB is a bit shy on details right now, and i'll fix it up this weekend. I just didn't want to let the game start without me.
Rest assured i'll have a developed OOB as soon as I have time to crank it out (as I said, probably this weekend) I just wanted to let everyone know that yes, I was playing, and yes, I am playing the Krytosians again.
Also, if for some reason there are major events going on, and I am unavailable, or don't have time, I have appointed Thirdfain to act as my Proxy in the interests of keeping the game going.

I am updating the summary now; it's in it's own thread. Academia Nut, you seem to be 20 points under since removing some of your advantages. I would appreciate it if people could PM me if they update their OOB once they're on the summary.
