Not the one used in the film.

The one in the film is done by MuteMath. Black Lab thought MuteMath's version sucked, so they made their own.

And Black Lab's version is growing on me.

Before I listened to the Black Lab version, I was expecting a song that would shit all over the original. A cover that would attempt to "modernize" the original but would completely lose the spirit. I was pleasantly surprised. I liked it!

Then I listened to the Mutemath version, and all my fears became realised. And just to add to the crapiness, it was annoying as well. I had a hard time listening to half of it. I don't know how something that bad can be an official song of the movie.

Wow, that's awful. Why cover the original instead of just making a new one? I mean, the original was so staggeringly 80's ... and it's 2007. But when Shakira covers AC/DC, all bets are off.

All the Black Labs version needs is a) the singer to turn down the emo knob a bit and take a throat lozenge and b) someone who can play the lead part in the original. All those big empty parts of the song where it's just the same thing over and over? Lion had awesome 80's guitar wankery FILLING those spaces. Black Labs apparently did it as a 'you suck' gesture, so maybe they couldn't be assed learning it which is fair enough.

To be honest, I thought the MuteMath version was quite good. It might just be because I think their vocalist is tops (Chaos is one of my more recent favourite tracks to listen to).

Agreed, the original is awesome. Cheesy as hell but its fun, well played & rockin'. This new version takes the original & strips away the fun, passion, talent and worst of all tries to sound serious.

Part of me died inside when I heard that track. What the fuck are they trying to make it sound like? That's the kind of moody bullshit they used to use in sci-fi soundtracks in the fucking early 1970s, before Star Wars brought back the orchestral score.

That's a nasty theme, in either version. Though the Black Lab one is the better, I'd say. In any case... I quite like the look of some of that stuff...

I couldn't listen for a minute to the Black Lab version and not even ten seconds on the MuteMath one, they were so horrible. Yes, the 80's are gone but jebus, why do they have to go in these routes?

Listening to the Lion version, it's still awesome to this day.
