The reason on is simple: Connor is actually a Black Library plant! Here to indoctrinate us into the buying of his Chaotic masters's books.andrewgpaul wrote:By the way, Connor, I'm blaming you for the fact I've bought 8 Black Library WH40K novels in the last week
(Woohoo! 3 in a row )
How else would he have such insanely long quotes, no sane person actually calcs dozens of books then copies thousands of words, he must have access to their inner files!
Follow me, my brothers before we are all lost to the ways of the Heretic, the Mutant, The Highlander!

Connor's collection is quite impressive. But not as impressive as mine, Muwahahahaha!
I've got:
Execution Hour and Shadow Point, my first novels in the 40k verse.
For the Emperor, Caves of Ice, The Traitor's Hand, Death or Glory, Duty Calls, and Hero of the Imperium. (And soon I will have Scourge of the Heretic... just as soon as they print it!) I've reread them many times.
I have all the Gaunt's Ghosts novels, even the hardcovers. I've reread the early ones from the Founding and the Saint storylines.
Eisenhorn, Ravenor and Ravenor Returns. I've read Ravenor Rogue, which went a long way to make up for the mediocrity of the first two, but I won't buy it until it's in paperback.
Double Eagle was very good, especially the characters. The technical aspects of it might cause a few cringes, though.
Last Chancers and Annihilation Squad. I bought Annihilation Squad before I knew the omnibus was coming. Unlike everyone else, I actually liked the last book, even its wtf ending. A little more closure would have been nice, but eh, whatcha gonna do?
Nightbringer, Warriors of Ultramar, DSBS. Again, I bought these before the omnibus was announced. I might someday reread Nightbringer and WoU, but I'm still smarting over DSBS. I really hope they decanonize that one.
Storm of Iron. A good book with terrible characters. The only likeable Chaos character was Felix, the traitor marine who just didn't give a shit. Also, I think the Imperial Fists came off as not-quite-dicks in this one, but I might be biased toward them since they aren't Honsou.
Inquisition War. I loved his description of the 40k verse, but hated the characters. Couldn't make it through book 2.
Soul Drinkers, Bleeding Chalice, Crimson Tears, Chapter War. Haven't read Chapter War yet, but I expect to be 'alright' based on the other books in the series.
Grey Knights and Dark Adeptus. I really liked these two.
Space Wolves. I bought all the novels individually and really enjoyed them. Conan in Space! (still haven't read Sons of Fenris, though.)
Farseer. Decent. Love the Eldar godslayer weapon.
Eye of Terror. Trippy and weird. The fluff that isn't outdated is pretty cool.
Angels of Darkness. I liked the interrogation scenes the best. The rest was just a drawn out short story.
Lord of the Night. Fun, but it needed a sequel or something to tie up loose ends.
Faith and Fire, 15 Hours, Deathworld, Iron Hands, Crusade for Armaggedon, the Shira Calpurnia novels, Firewarrior... They were all fun in their own ways.
Rogue Star and Daemonworld I own but haven't read yet. Dawn of War I have and tried to read. Warrior Brood and Eldar Prophecy I bought for the covers.... really.
I enjoyed all of the Horus Heresy novels.
I have Dark Imperium, Crucible of War, Words of Blood, Deathwing. What Price Victory, Tales from a Dark Millennium, Bringers of Death, and Let the Galaxy Burn. Read most of them... I think.
Titan God-Machine. Good, but too comic-y.
Xenology, Sabbat Worlds Crusade, Tactica Imperialis, the Horus Heresy art books, the Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer, the Trivia Book, several Codices, the Battlefleet Gothic and 40k rulebooks, several pdfs from Specialist Games, and eventually I'll get the Black Crusade book.
If I wasn't able to get everything at a discount, I'd probably have incurred some crippling debts.
And Connor, Nightbringer and Warriors of Ultramar both have Space Marines who are not dicks. Iron Hands does in fact have dick marines.

Yeah, I found it pretty easily, the most difficult part about it on ebay etc is the 25 million other things with "space marine" in their descriptionStormbringer wrote:Bob the Gunslinger wrote:You have Space Marine?white_rabbit wrote:I win
It's not as hard as many people make it out to be. It actually turns up with a fair amount of regularity on eBay and other resellers.
Forrix, the man deserves his correct name damnit!Felix, the traitor marine who just didn't give a shit.
I'd recommend you get Brothers of the Snake BTW.
apart from the hiccup between the first inferno story and the actual plotted out short story run/novella section, its damn good, for myself, I'd already read the odd bits in Inferno anyway.

Quite. But a lot of people are under the impression that it's rare, which it's not. People are just gullible.Connor MacLeod wrote:You either bid on it or you have to pay a huge ass amount for itStormbringer wrote:Bob the Gunslinger wrote: You have Space Marine?

Because of your glowing (and frequent ) plugging of this book, I am likely going to purchase it. Before or after the Ciaphas Cain omnibus depends entirely upon whether a) it's out here and b) the price. Of course, I currently have too many books to read at the moment, so I'll have to be careful, lest I end up with a dozen Black Library publications sitting around my room.white_rabbit wrote:I'd recommend you get Brothers of the Snake BTW.
However, Brothers of the Snake sounds extremely goddamn badass.

Hmm, I've considered that omnibus (I'm quite a fan of the Gortrek & Felix books). I've heard varying reviews about it thoughBob the Gunslinger wrote: Space Wolves. I bought all the novels individually and really enjoyed them. Conan in Space! (still haven't read Sons of Fenris, though.)

Moving away from 40K, I have original editions of Wolf Riders and Drachenfels, the GW Publishing ones, slightly larger than regular paperbacks, with artwork in the stories.

The original original Deathwing with the artwork, or the Boxtree reprint? If the former, you win.
I know what you mean about the Codices; I have all but Orks and Angels of Death for 2nd ed, and all 1st ed supplements except Waaagh! The Orks, which is horribly expensive on Ebay.

DEATH,
I'm not sure that Scourge of the Heretic is actually a Ciaphas Cain novel. It's written by Sandy Mitchell, but it looks like it's about an inquisitor.
The Space Wolf novels are a lot of fun, but the first and fourth are definitely the best ones. The second one kind of bogs down and the third one gets a little weird at the end, but you have to read them to get what's going on in book 4, which is simply awesome.
DocHorror, I have the original Red Thirst and Wolf Riders. I had access to the originals for the IW series, too, but had the omnibus already. My Gaunt's Ghosts are the originals, too. Someone unloaded their WH stock to a used bookstore here a few years ago.

Having it longer isn't really an issue here, I've worn out multiple copies of multiple books over the years, even had to rebuild collections from scratch once or twiceI think I might win; I've had my copy from new.

The Boxtree reprint, I actually wasn't aware there was an earlier edition. Still miffed about giveing away my Codexes. I even owned the Original Space Marine game (the epic scale game that supplimented Titan Legions) & even had the card board Horus heresy game that came free with White Dwarf. I spent ages trying to get the Armageddon game, mainly because I loved the original story of Commissar Yarrick.andrewgpaul wrote:The original original Deathwing with the artwork, or the Boxtree reprint? I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

The old £rd War for Armageddon website is still around, if you want to download the boardgame (and the expansion). I played it recently, it's quite fun. Almost managed a win with the Orks, but I hamstrung myself by forgetting about the out-of-supply rules for the first few turns; I could've had Hive Infernus in 1 turn, instead of feeding troops into the meatgrinder
Doc, if you got the game, d'you have any idea what other two historical campaigns it's based on. Barbarossa is obvious; you can even tell which Hive represents which Soviet city (although I'm not sure on where Infernus is supposed to be).
