Well, we're already going with the diplomatic thread, so the main story thread will probably start within the next day or two. We still haven't established where we are in relation to one another quite yet, but that won't stop the diplomats from cutting deals. So if you see someone you like, don't be afraid to PM them about alliances or trading or such things.

A big thank you to Starglider for noticing the adding mistakes in my OOB. You're a lifesaver, buddy.

Yeah, I just realized something. The Alien/Xeno threads aren't exactly IC material, so I'm going to have to edit my first post in the diplomatic thread. Otherwise it'll seem that Tiamat is babbling on about something that noone knows about.

As for the whole secrecy issue, the way I see is that the more points you dump into it, the less the rest of the galaxy knows about you currently.

OOB posted and probably will be changed as people begin pointing things out and threatening me...

I think those are the Gunbuster bad guys. Basically Giant Space Bug-like thingies. They come in swarms of millions upon millions, and get utterly pwnt by a giant robot piloted by a girl with issues who screams out silly attack names for no apparent reason. Said attack names are invariably in English despite the girl speaking Japanese.

BTW Starglider:

North Galactic Treaty Organization? What? There's no North in space. Just drop the "North" (might require mod help, not sure if you can edit thread titles), GTO is not a bad acronym.

Untrue, there is a North, South, West, and East in space. There is also an Up. Bad Astronomy pointed out that "West of the Rishi Maze" in Star Wars Episode II is not actually Bad Astronomy.

Actually, I'll take "New" over "North" If only because "NeGaTow" sounds really nifty as an alliance.

And Nephtys wins for most likely to distort local spacetime without interdictor technology.

Swarms...wow. considering that i've spent more in some cases on individual ships than Neph has spent on these quintillion spacefly fleets the quantity over quality effect is beyond my ability to even visualize. This worries me as unlike many here i've gone for a comparatively small number of weapon mounts on each ship, ah well i suppose proximity detonation nukes will be fun to use.

Nephytis, could you make that image in the OOB thread just wee bit smaller? It kinda breaks formatting.

Here's a potential basis for a map of this STGOD's powers. I'd be willing to put together a preliminary arrangement, but that might be better left to one of the moderators, or even a totally impartial individual.

My art skills are below my organizational ones. However, I was thinking a little smaller in scale, say just the Western Spiral Arm.

In previous games, we've used simple hex-maps with height variables thrown in for kicks. If requested, I can make 3D maps with proper positional data. There's no need to throw in real star data, just the systems that matter. It's not like this is hyper-realistic anyway.

Also, with Star Trek level tech it would take a while to cross the entire galaxy, so we don't want to work at that scale.

Too big, in a star wars tech game we'd take up the whole galaxy but here in a trek tech game, we're talking just a small part of the galaxy.

I'd recommend one of those Atomic Rockets! Website 'stars within X LY'. We could turn the game into a relatively regional thing, or screw the scale and just make that a big field of stars.

I second the vote for 2d hex maps for what it's worth. We don't really need anything more complex than that.

This mostly a worthless complaint, as it's far too late to change things, but I want to whine anyway.

STGOD fleets are always too dammed small. We should have been given 4000 points with SirNitram's limitations (ships larger than 50 points suffer from the law of diminishing returns). Then my navy would be:

15 45-pointers
45 27-pointers
150 9-pointers
200 3-pointers

That's a 410 ship fleet, which in my opinion is far better than the current ~100 ship fleets that we have here (crazy shit like Nephytis's power excepting).

Well, them's the breaks.
