Dark Hellion's AIs look interesting. I'm going to tweak my RP slightly to further differentiate the Colony from the Heralds.

I wrote a little script to parse the summary while I was waiting for a classifier run to complete:

And btw, given that we already semi-officially started the game, wouldn't it be a good idea to star the main thread?

Glider? I think your parser ate its own lunch on my navy. Not sure where you're pulling things from there. :)

Well if you would stop arresting our observers, doing nothing more than exercising their right to fly around taking pictures of your dock facilities, and buying your ensigns drinks before engaging them in friendly conversation about missile launcher counts and unrefuelled range, for perfectly legal and civilian purposes of course... these accusations that they are in any way involved in intelligence gathering or are government employees are completely unfounded...

(ok I made a typo that confused the parser :) )
Rawtooth wrote:Yeah, I have ten more Frigates than listed. Made me all hopefull for a second that I had the second smallest fleet.
Very cunning of you using fake hull numbers and keeping a detachment permanently 'on maneuvers' to mask your true fleet numbers.

(another typo, but somehow I used the right number when I checked your points earlier)
White Haven wrote:Glider? I think your parser ate its own lunch on my navy. Not sure where you're pulling things from there.
Yours looks superficially ok to me. The ship count is correct and the points total is on target. Bear in mind that Starglider Publishing Inc, in the finest British tradition, firmly believes that we know how to classify your ships better than you do, and as such may or may not pay any attention to what you called them. The Brimafel Preeminence in particular likes to call its battlecruisers 'light cruisers' and its dreadnoughts 'heavy cruisers' just to scare everyone with the notion of what their actual battleships might be like. At the other end of the scale the Sentient Terranic Machine Custodian (which didn't parse at all) seems to be fielding 'battleships' the size of fighters and 'destroyers' the size of light missiles.

(though it would not be a true Jane's parody if it did not have several errors, omissions and numerous errata updates :) )

Apparently no one in the galaxy has any carrier-class designs, either. :)

We got around that problem by reclassifying supercarriers as 'missile battleships employing recoverable missile buses with organic guidance systems'.

You have my frigates classified as destroyers, and my missile destroyers classified as frigates. I object!

Alas, the categorisation here is by point value, and I ripped off the Star Fleet Battles scheme for turning what should be role designators into size bracket (or rather combat power classification) names. Shameful I know.

My fleet looks right, but strangely, HSRTG has the exact same fleet count as I do. Hmm... Perhaps some of your observers took a wrong turn at Sirius?

Well, if they continue to politely hand over their ships and persons when asked nicely, I don't think your mothership will be necessary :P

Apparently your definition of 'asked nicely' is 'at gunpoint, faced with massively superior firepower, after being tricked into lowering their weapons'. :P

I asked them to lower their weapons nicely, and they did. The rest is just semantics. Sort of.

And point of order, it wasn't massively superior firepower. In fact, the combined point totals of the 2nd and 3rd Cruiser Divisions were about 60 pts, while the Pirate group was closer to 70- and that included a capital ship, while my own force only had cruisers and escorts.

You know, if they had attacked, I would have conceded it to be an assault on Earth, as they were within a few AU of Earth, and I think the Few defense fleet I have at Earth would have been a fairly decent rout.

They weren't there to attack- it's pretty obivous the King of the Pirates was hoping for a peaceful meeting. Honestly, if he'd sent only a single frigate or a diplomatic courier, I wouldn't have bothered- but a battleship and escorts? too good to pass up.

Son, rest assured that if pirates attack Earth, they've got a big goddamn blackjack in the last place you expect it.

It's gonna be hilarious when someone fights the Nephtys swarm.

Example.
:Chamaran seeker:
Oh good god there's thousands of them! fire the missile launcher!
*missile fired, missile detonates within the swarm*
How many did we kill? *blinks*
ensign: The computer gave up at over nine thousand.
captain: So we're not going to be stencilling our kill count on the hull nyo?
Ensign: They'd never believe us.
