I'm more looking forward to the inevitable sensor officer wetting himself.

That would be by size, but the power readings should give: "They might be dangerous if they get close enough to ram us... en masse."SirNitram wrote:I'm more looking forward to the inevitable sensor officer wetting himself.

People are way too metagame thinking on this. All of these ships have the ability to leap to FTL and move at comparable speeds. There will be literally no reason not to think they're incredibly dangerous until the first exchange of blows.Adrian Laguna wrote:That would be by size, but the power readings should give: "They might be dangerous if they get close enough to ram us... en masse."SirNitram wrote:I'm more looking forward to the inevitable sensor officer wetting himself.

And be honest for a moment: Will your officers be the ones who will bravely engage thousand-to-one odds?

Mine probably wouldn't either. Will be interesting, though, to see if Nephtys gets ganged up on before the true power of her ships comes out. I can imagine the scene now, as the brave alliance confronts thousands-to-one odds, right before they find out the other side's ships are made of tissue paper. The speeches should have a great irony too.

Oh? And here I thought that sensors here could give you a rough idea of how powerful an enemy fleet is. In the last STGOD I was able to, through the use of a scouting ship passing near the picket line, determine that the Iron Fleet Thirdfain had deployed was roughly the same as my entire naval forces. IIRC I had a margin of error of about 15-20%.SirNitram wrote:People are way too metagame thinking on this. All of these ships have the ability to leap to FTL and move at comparable speeds. People will charge the enemy while naked and armed with a rusty spoon if they believe doing so will in some part help preserve their nation. A war of national survival can suddenly make people incredibly brave. However, this does probably mean people would be hesitant to attack her.And be honest for a moment: Will your officers be the ones who will bravely engage thousand-to-one odds?

I was chuckling at this thought also. I'd imagine it'd be fun writing the narrative for such a battle.HSRTG wrote:I can imagine the scene now, as the brave alliance confronts thousands-to-one odds, right before they find out the other side's ships are made of tissue paper. Not every STGOD is exactly the same rules wise. The fact we're on a much-reduced tech level than normal also has an effect.Adrian Laguna wrote:Oh? Heroic last stands fine, but the idea that ships will calmly sit still while encountering these things and perform detailed scans of the multitudes to determine their tactical capabilities is metagame thinking of the highest order. You are talking about a nation with religious leaders actually capable of doing miracles, they can get fanatical if there's good reason to do so. Probably said good reason would be national survival. And be honest for a moment: Will your officers be the ones who will bravely engage thousand-to-one odds?

Absolutely not. However it will be a fun day indeed when someone realizes that their capital ships are vulnerable to point defense fire and engine wash.SirNitram wrote:People are way too metagame thinking on this. If the options are fight or surrender, the Kitaka will fight. The Kitaka don't have anything against retreat though.SirNitram wrote:People are way too metagame thinking on this. Yes, there is a bit of game going on in the Coalition of Nations thread, although a lot of it is political grandstanding or just arrivals at Earth. What I'm really waiting for will be the inevitable state dinner RP afterwards when we can have some more free form discussions.

Or in some cases, working out how the hell we're going to RP these bizarre xeno species.Academia Nut wrote:Yes, there is a bit of game going on in the Coalition of Nations thread, although a lot of it is political grandstanding or just arrivals at Earth.
Actually I had a very good idea of how mine should think from when I came up with the concept, but I was (and am) having a hard time working out how to describe them properly.

Heh, yeah, part of my thing right now is that the main diplomat is very old and experienced so he knows what he should be saying. The apprentices on the other hand, well, they will be much more interesting to play with.Starglider wrote:Or in some cases, working out how the hell we're going to RP these bizarre xeno species.

When the actual rp thread kicks off, Family Morgan of the Vak will be throwing a carnival full swing in their traditional spot, some where in north america. Pipsqueaks will be elsewhere on planet dealing with other nations.

ROA your OOB is totally wrong. You spend plus points on ships as extra. If I buy a 20 point ship I don't get 20 points of upgrades, I could buy 20 points of upgrades but that only means I now have a 40 point ship. Your OOB as is goes well over 2000 points.
Second, +20 starfigher combat is an invalid technology. You want your fighters to be good? Spend the money on your carriers. +20 insurgency fighting is iffy in my opinion, but I think the mods won't have any objection.
