Some WH:40K questions

Post by Lord Revan »

first did the traitor legions have the same colors in their power-armor pre heresy (as loyal legions) as they have in the current time and if not what were those colors.

second should space marine be trapped in hostile planet where they would know that their current force is too small for any major operation there and their also must hold a key objective (spaceport or similar place), would they go down in blaze of glory (and loose said objective) or would they stay and call for a greater force to take the planet (assuming a reasonbly tactically intelligent chapter)

third is there a general Astrades only channel (mean a communacation channel that chapters could use to talk to each other but what imperial guard and/or navy couldn't use).
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

No. The Iron Warriors are the only ones which kept basically their same colours.

For reference: Games Workshop's official page upon Heresy colour schemes for the Legiones Astartes
second should space marine be trapped in hostile planet where they would know that their current force is too small for any major operation there and their also must hold a key objective (spaceport or similar place), would they go down in blaze of glory (and loose said objective) or would they stay and call for a greater force to take the planet (assuming a reasonbly tactically intelligent chapter)
The Adeptus Astartes are all reasonably excellent tactics-wise, although they tend to have their moments of insanity. They would work out how large a perimeter they can hold with their existing forces, and then defend it while hollering for help.
third is there a general Astrades only channel (mean a communacation channel that chapters could use to talk to each other but what imperial guard and/or navy couldn't use).
No. There are no real 'channels' per se; you pick an astropath, tell him to send to so and so astropathic department upon so and so planet, and you can encrypt the message before you put it through the astropath. That's about as far as it goes.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

And before that, when they were the Lunar Wolves, they had pearly white armour.
What is Project Zohar?

Here's to a certain mostly harmless nutcase.

though more powerful librarians are able to send messages in the same way as astropaths...without some of the rites they undergo. at least if I recall my fluff correctly.

Related question.. how complex a message can a psyker (i.e. dedicated Astropath or powerful Librarian) send?

Is it limited to what you can readily think (sentences, perhaps images?) or can it be pages of hard data?

How long does it take to send an average message?

As an example, the Adeptus Mechanicus have permanent servitor-astropaths hardwired into an "altar" in a permanent connection with Mars, all information, discoveries, economic/industrial data etc is relayed to Mars and the Fabricator General.

Basically pretty much anything can be sent, with similar constraints to modern communications infrastructure. I.e. if you've got a burnt out corpse of an astropath on one end, and theres a live transmission from a Marine Librarian on the other side of the galaxy through a Warp storm, then its not going to work to hot.

"Average" anything is pretty difficult to answer for a Galactic empire, there are so many variables.

Pick any medium of communication in the modern world, the chances are there is some sort of astropathic equivalent.

Glorified email system, live transmissions, voice only, image only, as well as emotions and direct to brain concepts if thats the right way to describe it.

Considering a handful of AStropaths can and are used as sector relays for every astropathic message travelling through the sector, meaning thousands to possibly millions of messages per day the physical limit on an individual astropathic message is likely to be very high.
