"I would be pleased to tell you Madame, it is all I have wanted since my arrival. I have been sent by King Bootswellington as an envoy of peace. The Previous King had a vision of a Pirate Fleet, forever free and beyond the law. Towards the effort he created a nation of those unwanted souls who found themselves caught between the edge of civilization and the edge of space. But times have changed. Believe it or not, we have changed."

He paused to take a sip of water.

"The population of Blackmast is now 13 million. We have begun constructing our own infrastructure and industry, not to mention an economy which can not be supported with mere piracy. Our name may have been a joke to the previous King but today it is inching ever closer to reality. If we are to survive, and more importantly, if the growing world which depends on us is to survive, we must become a nation in our own right. King Natan decided we had better start acting like one."

Duke Eddard turned to consider the ships crowding about hhis beloved Balthier and his face turned somber.

"The King is beset, for now he is not merely leader of a reaving fleet, but a King in fact. He is constantly confounded by the traditions and policies set forth by his predecessor and he has dedicated himself to correcting the faults of a wasteful rule. That's why he sent the fresh crews. They're young me and women, fresh from Blackmast, meant to show what our kingdom has become."

"Really, now?" The Major-General chewed thoughtfully for a second. "That reminds me of a quote I once heard, damned if I can remember from where... 'the only difference between politicians and thieves is the scope of their operation and the quality of their propaganda.' Was that Stalin? Or perhaps Pilsudski?"

The Duke shrugged expansively.

"Ah, I was paraphrasing anyways." Her face hardened, slightly. "I wish you luck at the hearings, your highness. It has not escaped the attention of the Fleet that your men are less likely to rape and kill than the freebooters, but even you must admit that 'less likely' is not 'will never.' Piracy is piracy, and your King will have a great deal to answer for before he can hope to be accepted as a statesman as opposed to a criminal."

The Director shrugged. "Have it your way. I WILL find out who you are, by the way. And you will answer for any crimes you have commited."

The guards, escort multiplied by a large force of agents and Army troops, took the Wanderers from the room and lead them towards waiting transports.

The Director waited quietly in the room for a minute, and then a half hour.

Sighing, he relaxed. He let his thoughts return to their normal state, and ceased his careful concentration. Implants inside his skull ceased their operation.

Iosef Milosz, Director of Intelligence for the Republic of Poland, picked up the room's antique phone and dialed a number.

"Sir? We have a situation."

"And will those governments responsible for crimes against us ever see justice done to them? Of course not." The Wanderers were escorted out without any resistance. The Gestalt was tight around them now, but when the report came that they were secured aboard the transport, the psonar suddenly spiked as a transmission fled into the depths of space. True to their word, they were reaching out to their kind.

The espersense pervading the space around the recently-arrived transport ship most definitely noticed the departing messages. The direction it slashed off in is certainly noted, but so is the origin. Shortly, a mental presence with all the collected subtlety of a grenade strapped to a battering ram stretches out, following the backtrail of the psionic signal towards its source via nothing more complex than simple psychic geometry.

Meanwhile, the ship sends out another transmission at the same three planetary bodies, in a series of testier tones, "What, are the lot of you deaf? Hello out there...is it too late to drop in? Your mother's on fire. Your pubescent son's died on one of the orphan colonies. Is this thing on?"

Oberin Intelligence HQ, London

The main feed on the screen was the World News broadcast of the diplomatic summit. Over an hour of ceremonies had been underway, and speaker after speaker was now standing to declare their support for the resolution introduced by the Polish. Timothy Walters, director of the Intel Office, felt a headache forming. He loved his job, but being asked to watch a TV broadcast of this summit was one of the most tedious things he had ever been asked to do. Walters was entirely committed to his job, even changing his name a number of years ago so that he would fit in better with the humans when he had to interact with them. But that was before he had been promoted to a desk job. Now all the real interesting work was being done by the agents in the field and the few staff around the office compiling reports being sent in by the field agents. Walters sighed as another diplomat stood and voiced his support.

"Oh, so your nation doesn't like piracy, too?" Walters asked the holovision monitor sarcastically. "I never would have guessed!" He didn't have any painkillers close to hand. More's the pity.

"Sir, I just got a report from one of our agents on the concourse. He overheard an exchange that he felt was worthy of immediate note." Walters took the datacard from the agent and scanned it quickly. His eyes widened. "First contact on the concourse? And they were arrested?"

"Our agent tells us the Polish seemed to think they were human terrorists of some sort. Not 'cousins from the stars.' Still, who's to say? A lot of strange types have come out of the woodwork today."

"Very good. Commend the field agent and get back to work on the datastreams. Ober will expect a full report on EVERYTHING that happens here today, and I mean to see that they get one." Walters glanced at the datacard. This bit of information would have to get high priority on the final report. He shoved the card into his desk before turning to the officer. "One more thing. If these intruders really are members of some new race, we will want to know as much about them as possible. Assign one of our agents to monitor the Polish internal security force and keep tabs on these beings. If they are released, he is to contact a member of the diplomatic corps at once so that we can make our own contact. Use all due discretion."

"Of course. But sir - the diplomatic corps? I thought we hadn't sent a delegation."

"We haven't," Walters sighed, "but there are still diplomats in the area."

"What, waiting outside the doors, hoping to be let in?" The agent smirked.

"No. They are on standby just in case something like this should happen. See to it, agent. Man your post."

"Yes sir."

Walters turned back to the news, but just couldn't focus. After two minutes, he left to go find some painkillers. "I hate politics," he grumbled.

Heavy Cruiser Kobe retcon 1

Alarms went through the bridge as strange sensor readings were coming in from one of the alien ships. They had had very precise orders how to behave around Earth. Hegemonians loved precision.
After a few seconds, a new blip appeared on the master screen, just above the meeting site. Biological blips.
"Sir," a sensor tech called out, "it seems to be some sort of teleportation system. They have transported themselves down the meeting site..."

If not for her biological control systems, Captain Kathleen Duong would have had an apoplexy right now. Polish authorities didn't seem to react at all, which she didn't like. Duke Ruzhkov was down there, and if anything should happen to him... She remembered the rumors about those secret prisons the Kempetai kept on Io and she wasn't about to get a first-class ticket there.
<<Target the alien ship,>> she ordered via data burst. <<And move to intercept.>>
<<But sir,>> her XO interjected, <<this is a diplomatic ship, under polish protection, under our protection. We cannot->>
<<Do it,>> she barked.
The crew did as they were told. They heard rumors about the increased instability of their captain, and not too few were betting on her disappearance in some secret prison soon. But, she was the captain still. Obedience was bred into them.

"Kiroter'nah ship," she barked into her mike, "do not move one inch or you will be destroyed. You will be towed into a parking position in lunar orbit. Do not resist the towing. And, above all, do not try something like this again or we will destroy you. After you have been secured in orbit, your ship will be searched and impounded until such a time we deem it acceptable to release you. For the sake of the openess of the meeting, we will allow your group of people to attend the meeting below in a proper way and return. Kobe out!"

"The Empire of the Sun must respectfully..." Lady Tiamat stopped mid-sentence. Her head cocked to one side, as if listening to a distant sound. Finally she brought her attention back to the present situation. Her eyes blinked rapidly as she finished talking.

"Unfortunately, I am late in contacting the Grand Concord. Please excuse me."

She then exited the chamber, trailed by her Qiraji cohorts. They left for the safety of her ship, the Chromatic Burst.

"Did you feel that?"

"Of course we did mistress! Why did you leave the summit?"

"Another race with psychics... "

"Why do they even matter, after all the-"

"Silence you idiot! Don't you realize what this means for us, for our race! We must inform the Grand Concord at once!"

A small merchant vessel marked as belonging to the Republic of Germany (which was plausible, it was thought among the planners of this operation, since the crusader rump state under that name possesses little in way of space forces except merchantmen) exploded into existance via FTL, utilizing an Earthern Jumpdrive. It maneuvered into the least-time route to Earth with which to sell its goods, but not before its coincidental vector let it place a carefully modulated pulse of energy on a very calculated vector. This small blast of energy was virtually unnoticable to all compared to the whirlwind of sensor readings FTL disengagement produced. Unnoticable to all but one, that is.

Inside the Imperial German vessel laying stealthed and powered down, the message arrived with new orders from High Command. The ship turned on slight thruster impulses, drifting away from the ecliptic of the system for all the world like a piece of invisible garbage away.

After several mind-numbingly dull hours, the ship had finally transitioned out of range of any known sensors and was reaching a distance where the chance of sensor detection by uncatalogued sensors was virtually zero. They stopped, picked up a shuttlecraft that the freighter had dropped off earlier that day in accordance with orders, and then reversed course yet again and simultaneously began warping. Within a short time the ship finished its travel, reappearing in the Solar System at a distance of exactly 10 AU. It was only then that it began hailing the planet.

It wouldn't do to let the Poles know that the powered down German ships and some less-than-patriotic Lutheran merchantmen of the so-called Republic of Germany had been watching Earth very carefully for years by now, after all.

"Attention Polish Government. This is the Captain Freitag of the KMS Gespenst, Kaisermarine, German Empire. The Reich has detected your transmission pulse and is responding accordingly. We are adopting a heading of least-time to Earth at 500 gravities and wish to attend this... panopoly of nations."

The message, as was usual for the obsessive compulsive nature of Imperial German diplomacy, repeated itself in fluent German, Japanese, and Esperanto. It most notably did not, despite the relative ease with which the translator programs could have done so, repeat itself in Polish.

Night side of Earth, High Orbit
=====================

As much of the multi billion populated world slept beneath them, the five small UISC Corvettes hung in formation over the world. Their crews on night duty, most of them asleep as well, a few up at their stations. On the lead ship “Aknot’ a Octona technician spotted something.

“Another spike… just like the last one… Sir? Captain?” A sleepy Tejlini looked up from his chair in the middle of the room, eyeing the young cadet.
“Report”

“Sir, I’ve been detecting unusually spikes in our computer core, not just our core, but the core of each of our ships in orbit.” The captain looked up, more awake now.

“Is it a hacker? Someone trying to break into our systems?” The cadet shook his head scanning the data ruthlessly.

“We are getting a single from the surface, It’s hitting our ship, and instantly being networked to all the other ships computers. But, but there is no evidence of our firewalls being broken… Sir, either this is the greatest hacker I’ve ever seen, or, it is inside job.” The captain sneered and quickly called the bridge to order.

“Move to yellow alert, I want the source of this single tracked and I want to know what its doing to our computers! While your at it, try and get the ships AI up and see if it can’t do something about this!” He barked before leaning back, mumbeling.

“Curesed RUDI clones… There is something unsettling about our ships using the exact same computer Core.

"Kari'naha, they are locking tractors. Shall we cloak?". Taxaani-Rokain#7-Myaar'neth, the deputy tactical co-ordinator, was clutching his perch hard enough to dig his claws into the polymer.

fly? Failure on all scenarios.

Kari'naha bared her teeth. "No. They have our position locked in, they could blanket the volume around our current position with weapons fire and destroy us before we could get moving." She thought for a moment. "Disengage neutronium containment safeties, set self destruct for total disintegration."

Taxaani-Rokain#7-Zaahneesh, the communications co-ordinator spoke up; "Kari'naha? The self destruct? Is it the only way?"

"We must go down fighting, or the humaans will think we are easy prey!" Myaar'neth snarled.

"Prepare to bring shields and weapons to maximum. Signal the humans that we surrender. Let them get complacent before we strike. We must have an element of surprise or this will be futile."

like the still alive prey that bits the talons that snatched it

"Target their tractor emitters. Ripped wings, I wish we carried distortion wave emitters, we could disrupt those tractor beams in an instant. Displacers?"

Zaahneesh spoke up; "Negative. With this interference we cannot get a lock on the surface, it's too far. But co-ordinator... perhaps the displacers can still help. If we create a series of displacement nexuses along the path of the tractor beam, will that not disrupt it?"

"Excellent, we can save our weapons fire for their bridge." Myaar'neth's bravado aside, they all knew the Hegemony cruiser carried twice their firepower and that they would be lucky to get out of this alive.

Flash simulation received... success probability 0.57 with combined strategy. as good an escape route as i could expect Assuming supporting forces have manual fire authorisation. If automatic fire is authorised, probability of success is 0.03 but any chance of escape is better than dying in a useless direct attack

"An ingenious suggestion. We will try it your way first. Program the sequence, include a full spread of decoys. One burst on all particle/lasers as the displacers engage, in a wide spread. We may dazzle their sensors for a moment. But if the displacers fail, redirect all fire on their tractor beam emitter."

The ship shuddered slightly as it was hauled around by the tractor beam. The tension was unbearable as the command crew refined the strategy and prepared the ship's systems.

"Displacers ready. Burst transmission to the surface team ready, but I cannot guarantee it will get through the jamming." Zaahneesh flicked his ears nervously.

Myaar'neth was in a state of maximum alertness, fixated on the tactical display. "Targeting and evasive patterns programmed. If the displacers fail, we must rely on a weak spot where the beam crosses their shields. Otherwise we will be a wreck before we break through to their emitter."

Kari'naha felt a strong temptation to waste time saying something sentimental, but there was not a further moment to waste. they drag us ever closer to their den for dissection We must respond before they can instigate full precautions or send marines.

----

The K.O.S.C. Elucidate drifted through space, appearing from a distance as a gaggle of pearly grey eggs trapped in an intricate lattice, flattened into a roughly triangular shape. Ahead the Hegemony heavy cruiser Kobe drove purposefully ahead, the tractor beam linking the two ships barely visible as a shimmering of the background starfield.

"Execute!"

Power flooded into the Elucidate's displacers, building to a crescendo while the technicians frantically brought the ship's weapons online. A series of bizarre warping distortions appeared ahead of the ship, right in the path of the tractor beam. The fast warm-up rendered the displacer imprecise, and the interactions of the device with an alien tractor beam could not be fully predicted. Flashes of light appeared, and the beam seemed to burst into strands of visual distortion exploding in every direction. The Elucidate lurched forward, while the enemy cruiser shuddered from the feedback.

"It is working, Kari'naha. We are gliding free!"

"Maximum sublight, fly! Fire weapons and release decoys!"

The Elucidate lept away on a spiralling course, particle-lasers lashing out at the heavy cruiser. The Kobe's shields flared brightly under the bombardment, but instantly xaser beams stabbed back at the fleeing Kiroter'nah ship. Stripped of shields by the cloaking sequence, the beams shredded sections of the support structure and cracked the primary tactical module like an egg. The enemy commander had not left the Kobe's response to merely human reaction times.

"Get that shroud up, now! Evasive maneuvers to pattern beta."

Trailing glowing metal fragments, the Elucidate blinking out as the cloak finally engaged and wrapped its distortion shroud around the ship. A spray of sixty four tiny drones shot through space around it, each broadcasting hyperwave noise and signals designed to resemble cloaking bleed. The human cruiser continued to pour fire into space in the direction that the Kiroter'nah ship had travelled.

A horrendous medley of pounding impacts and shrieking metal reverberated through the command space, overpowering the already deafening hum from the straining engines.

"Co-ordinator, multiple hits from their xaser weapons! The tactical module is a mess... They seem to be firing blind, but with that fire rate they're still connecting with a few shots." The Eludicate was blind and defenceless under cloak, the ship could only fly as fast as possible and hope to get out of range of the clumsy blind fire.

"Six P/LEs offline, three HK turrets out."

"Executing Kalimna's spiral..."

"Major impact on the aft power module. Another one! Aft reactor output is dropping... lost the upper-aft-starboard turret as well."

A disembodied voice burst through the internal comms; "Kari'naha, convertor assembly delta is out, core containment is fluctuating but holding, we are attempting to stabilise but with the safeties off we can't take many more hits."

weave through the trees outfly the kar-zekels they have terrible claws but the chiro terah are cunning...

Suddenly the fire slackened and stopped. we are away and faster than i thought The human weapons must have a shorter range than predicted, or the blinding burst did more damage to their sensors than expected.

quick before they tighten the net FTL interdiction perimeter reachable in 43 chronons given minimally convoluted course.

"Step down to evasive pattern gamma. Get us into FTL as soon as possible. Re-engage neutronium containment safeties. Get the casualties out of the tactical module and seal it. We won't need the weapons for a while, either the cloak holds or we're food for the kar-zekels. Damage control to focus on the aft reactor, they may be able to track any leakage."

Engineering co-ordinator Bo'kaarisa came over the comms again "Kari'naha, the displacers were burned out by the feedback from that beam. Can't give you a repair estimate, it's a mess down there". The sound cut off in a burst of static.

Zaahneesh's expression seemed to alternate between relieved and distraught. "Ship-to-surface comm burst was transmitted, who can tell if it was received. Are we to abandon Serenaas, Cahaan'nol and Tara'shaani? To dissection by those humaan barbarians?"

they wanted to meet these vicious predators they chose their fate but they are of the flock no chiro terah deserves to be abandoned to the tortures of such beings

"No, we will not abandon them. I will not break that trust. But we cannot hope to reach them now. First we must get to a safe range to inform the overflock of what has transpired here. The humans betrayed our trust, we followed their instructions, but they intended to capture and dissect us and then tried to kill us when we flew from their trap. The Contactiphiles cannot maintain their position after this. But then we will loop back, observe under cloak and find a way to extract them. We will start by rescuing these misguided children from their own folly and then we will do the same for the overflock itself."

In his chambers aboard his ship, Archon Prasad frowned at the unexpected events that arose as a result of this offer of peace - one ship of unknown origin destroyed, and another nearly so.

With only an instant's hesitation, he got up, and proceeded to write a message to the Polish President on his lightpad, sending it himself when finished. Shaking his head, he mutely gave the orders for his ship, the Silent Eye, and it's escort back to Golden Sky Combine space. Accellerating to a point of minimal traffic impact, the two ships seemed to glow, then explode together, collapsing into a single glowing point, and finally disappearing.

Code: Select all

President Wiśniowiecki,

I write to you to express concern, and no small amount of shock at the events we've seen today. A badly handled diplomatic incident with another race after another - a ship of unknown origin at the edge of this solar system destroyed, and another ship of unknown origin nearly destroyed by a faction that claims affiliation with your Coalition. These events do not inspire our confidence, and so we must withdraw our entrance in any Coalition you lead or propose until external influences such as this Hegemony of Heavens are dealt with more care and more solidarity of purpose.

Heavy Cruiser Kobe, high orbit around Earth retcon 2

Captain Kathleen Duong cursed under her breath. How could they have been so stupid? Sending people - even might be terrorists - unannounced into a meeting with dignitaries from all around the galaxy, hosted by Poland, and not expect the consequences...? Crazy.

Her main weaponry was coming online, the alien ship well within range.

***

Admiral Nori Chiang was barking orders left and right. And cursed.
"Thst stupid bitch!" She should have sacked her, she knew. But she was well connected and servging guard around Earth... Who knew she could ruin it here?
<<Duong!>> she barked via data-burst. <<Stop immediately! Repeat, STOP!>>
She did not receive any reply.
When the first shots were fired from the Kobe she had no choice.
<<Open fire,>> she data-burst and three orbital weapons plattforms opened fire, hitting the heavy cruiser hard, which was clearly not expecting it. She did try to evade, but it was too late. The aft section of the ship exploded and vented atmosphere.
<<Cease fire!>> a male burst came through from the Kobe. <<The captain is dead. A picture appeared in the Admiral's mind, showing Duong with half her head gone due to a pulser shot directly to the head.
<<Well done, Commander,>> she answered.
With a nod, the plattforms ceased firing. A group of shuttles moved towards the heavy cruiser to begin towing it into the yards.

***

Sant Tomas, conference room

The Duke received the report from the incident through his implants. Only his professionalism and his implants stopped him from blushing a deep red.
"Fellow delegates," his booming voice rose, "I have to inform you that an incident with one of our ships and a Kiroter'nah ship occured in orbit around Earth. The captain of one of our cruisers misjudged a situation terribly. Our orbital defense dealt with the situation and the Captain has been terminated. We apologise deeply and offer reparations for any damage to the Kiroter'nah."
He bowed very deep several times.

The transport begins moving along the course indicated by the escorting US warship, aftera waspish, "Bloody awful response time you lot have," sniped back through the comm channels. The only unnerving part is that it's a moving quite fast, for a transport, and doing so with its engines powered down. This proceeds for a short while, until gunfire erupts in relatively nearby space...also a good deal farther away than any normal transport would have likely been able to discern. Psychic force spills out of the ship, washing away from agitated minds as they do...something, something big.

"We demand to know what that was, 'Yukon.'" snaps out in clipped, harsh tones. Four of them.

"HK turrets five and seven are now fully operational but four, six and eight are all a write off. P/L emitters one through four are also unsalvageable. Seven and eight still have no laser capability, but that should be restored within 1024 chronons. The port-forward shield generator is scrap, so are most of the long-range scanners. The aft reactor containment breaches have been patched, but it will take us at least 4096 chronons to get the delta power convertors going again, and until we do the ship will be at 91% power. To do that we'll have to take the aft reactor offline, and with the forward reactor powering the shroud and secondary containment on the aft reactor that leaves us nothing but the auxiliaries for ship systems."

"As for the displacers; primaries are gone until we can drydock but we may be able to get a secondary working for you by scavenging the coils from the broken shield generator. I cannot say how long that will take. Finally we really strained the propulsion amplifiers with that cloaked dash, I'd be careful about stressing them again or we could have burnouts."

"Thank you Bo'kaarisa. Stay focussed on the reactor for now; you can go ahead with the power down, we will be staying here until their search patrols calm down anyway. I will advise the leaderflock to arrange for a another Requiem to fly a course leading away from earth simulating engine damage and a faulty shroud generator, hopefully that will convince them that we kept flying. As for the other damage I suppose we will just have to stay out of combat. Is the casualty report complete?"

"Thirteen dead in the tactical module, another five in the aft power module."

The older Kiroter'nah paused. She sounded weary. It had been nearly a decade since the void flocks had lost this many to an enemy attack. Kari'naha's face was a mask of vengeful anger.

"Melted away or blown out into space, all of them. Forty six shells damaged beyond repair by shrapnel and plasma leakage, twenty five more required repair. Little organic damage fortunately, other than mild irradiation. A few outer sections were scrap and vacuum, it took us a while to reach them all. The medical team are configuring new shells for those rendered naked now, but we're nearly out of spares."

being trapped in a broken shell during a space battle must be the most common nightmare in the void flocks Bo'kaarisa thought.

Zaahneesh interrupted; "Kari'naha, incoming maximum security message on deep distort ripple-comm". The ripple-comm was painfully slow, only a few symbols a chronon, but unlike normal hyperwave it could actually be picked up while cloaked.

"Flash it to me when decryption is complete." Kari'naha retook her central perch, too long conceded to that useless idealist Serenaas on this voyage, and waited.

----

"That insufferable mewling unukaas! Don't do anything rash? After her idiotic faction decided to throw us into this nest of rapid kar-zekels, on short notice and with that fool in command?"

The rest of the crew in the struct-filled command space could her a faint, muffled squealing. It was Kari'naha's real voice, venting her anger inside her cyber-interface cocoon. Outwardly her shell displayed only a blank expression. The other Kiroter'nah pretended not to notice this loss of control; it was impolite and embarrassing, and besides they had all suffered from it from time to time. In any case it lasted only for moments before Kari'naha snapped back to attention.

"Fine. Drop another stealthed drone programmed to tight beam my suggested actions to the leaderflock. Tell them we are under repair and holding position in this system's Oort cloud. Set it to burst in 32 chronons then initiate molecular self-destruct. Tell engineering to hold on the reactor power down for 64 chronons while we relocate, just in case they have some way of tracking that signal. We will not be 'rash', but we are not going anywhere either."

For some unknown reason, all CSKN vessels in earth orbit were recalled to rejoin the home fleet stationed above Metria. Habing the CSK join the Coallition would have to wait.

They've got pretty awful manners for diplomats, don't they?

Still, Captain Stratton was not supposed to judge, and ignored the snippish tone that came from the other ship. He would do his job, and do it well, and let other people take care of this diplomat. It wasn't as if he hadn't had experience dealing with rude people, both above and below him. And then there was the question of-

The sudden weapons fire over Earth lit up nearly all of the stations on the bridge, and people nearly fell out of their chairs as multiple warnings went off at the same time.

Stratton only hesitated a little before declaring "Yellow Alert! Call the Fleet and ask for some reinforcements, I don't want the death of an envoy today."

As the comm man was calling Home Fleet HQ, the sensors officer had put up a tactical display of that area of space. There were massive amounts of weapons fire being poured into an are of space with multiple cloak distortion readings. Even from this far range, the Yukon's sensors could pick up the cloak signatures. The attacking ship, with a bright Hegemony symbol, was still firing, but the wider dispersion pattern of the decoys now made it nearly impossible to blanket space with any significant amount of weapons fire.

"Sir, Home Fleet has sent reinforcements to rendezvous with us. ETA three minutes. And they said that they're taking care of the situation."

"Good. Let's just get this ship safely to Earth. Sensors, track all Hegemony ships, and warn me if we get close to any of them."

Two sleek cruisers and a Florida-class Grav-Battleship rendezvoused with the convoy as they proceeded towards Earth.

-----

OOC: Disregard the following, I'm keeping it for records purposes

The Grav-Cruiser Cascade was near the scene of the incident, and Fleet ordered it to investigate. First order or business was to clear the decoys. They were throwing out massive noise and were a navigational danger to all ships in the area. Cascade projected a grav-well near the center of the distortions, thoughtfully putting up a shield near the Kobe so it would not be dragged in. Then, as the decoys floated into the grav-well, Cascade turned up the gravity for an instant, crushing the decoys and clearing the noise.

As that task was being done, the captain of the Cascade hailed the Kobe.

This is Captain Darius Ferrel of the USS Cascade, we... respectfully request... to know exactly what just happened to cause you to fire on that ship, besides it suddenly appearing in Earth orbit.

In all honesty, Captain Ferrel probably would have shot the ship first, just to disable it, and hailed them afterwards. He was surprised that the Hegemony ship had shown such restraint, but also surprised that they had not sent boarding teams, or attached mines, to prevent any thought of resistance.

Coalition of Nations Conference
Sant Tomas
Earth

President Wisniowiecki looked up from the flimsy and aid had just pressed into his hand. He sighed deeply, and stood up.

"Gentlebeings, I've just recieved an urgent report from space command. Fifteen minutes ago, a vessel of the Hegemony of Heavens opened fire upon a licensed diplomatic vessel of the Kiroter'nah for unknown reasons. The Kiroter'nah vessel was in a stable orbit landing members of the Kiroter'nah diplomatic team via displacer. Such an act represents a nearly unforgivable breach of protocol, Earth law, and is a representation of extreme disrespect to the Polish Republic. This is precisely the kind of event which the Coalition as envisioned should exist to stop, precisely the sort of crime which the Coalition should exist to take action against.

I know we all haven't agreed on the details yet, but I'd like to humbly request that the nations assembled here join the Republic in denouncing the Hegemony's actions and demand just reparations and a state apology for the actions just criminally undertaken against the Kiroter'nah, against the honor of the Polish diplomatic corps, and against the very peace which this conference has met to maintain... with the understanding that if the Hegemony fails to answer for it's actions, we as one will take every necessary measure to ensure justice is done."

Co-Operative Mothership
Earth Orbit

Several Diplomats and high level Earth Senators were on board the Mothership, watching in awed silence at the horror that had developed in the last few days. They had only wanted to talk, and now the Hegemony was breaking up the Collation before it had even started. The deciion was made to have a show of force. They would have the mothership hover above Hegemony space. they got the approval from the Supreme Military council, and the only thing left was to officially broadcast their intentions to the Earth Governments, as a test run. The chief senator, an older man in an Europeans style suit would formal state to all, that the Mothership would be taken out of its Docking for tests to its engines and guidance systems.

"This is Al Chinachu. I am the chief Senator on the civilian military oversight committee, and I am formally testing the mothership fluffy for several testing runs over the Earth. That is all. There would be loud klaxons as the ship would start to move, its engines providing massive thrust, as it moved slowly from Spacedock, and towards the city of New Dehli.

The transport follows along after the US warship, engines still dark and unpowered, and its aura of short-tempered irritation mounting rapidly. Abruptly, a bolt of some sort of energy lashes out from the transport, towards its escort. It doesn't get far, splashing off the inside of a barrier of some kind. Anyone with even a trace of telepathic ability nearby would hear a waspish, masculine voice snapping, "CUT that out."

Reaching up from Earth, a powerful psionic presense seems to notice the waspish voices in the League ship being towed, responding to the earlier probe. The Wanderers, despite their captivity, were hardly blind and deaf.
