I can't edit my position into the map right now, but I plan on placing the Qiraji empire at about 7 o'clock from Earth at about -7 vertical position, occupying an area bordering known space.

Which reminds me - the Golden Sky Combine systems of Gliese, Monere, and Sindel would be located about -19/-10/+5 from Sol, in relatively close proximity to one another.

I'm not mapping individual systems. The "worlds" are supposed to represent empires, not your individual holdings. The only reason "Sol" is listed is that it's a system of significance. You wanna make your own map of your holdings, feel free.

It was mentioned earlier that should pre-game alliance form it would be ok to ask to be moved together. After all, alliances tend to form reasonably close together anyway.

I also request to be positioned somewhere in the galactic north, as I have already had some PM discusions with A_Wing_Slash and thus our groups would seem to be close to one another, and since he is part of the NGTO it would make sense for him to be in the north. Also, I presume we get multiple hexes, correct?

To accommodate my backstory, I am going to wait for many people to put up their groups, as mine should be somewhere relatively out of the way, were accidental encounters would be of very low probability.

No. One Empire, One Hex. There will be fancy little circles around the points to represent your "controlled space" if necessary. These hexes are supposed to be big areas of space. How much is up to you guys and how fast the FTL is supposed to be.

14 hex radius. That's up, down, left, right, you name it, we got it.

That means that most anything beyond 15 hexes from Earth is outside "known space". That's not to say that nobody really knows what's out there, but people don't go out that way very often.

My recommendation, by the by, is that FTL travel is roughly 1-2 hexes per day, so that it takes roughly four weeks to travel from one end of "known space" to the other. Feel free to take that with however much salt you like.

Well, I'd feel like I was attempting to retcon reality otherwise - Gliese as a star system is about 20.4 light years from Sol, according to Google.

A hex is not a lightyear. It is in fact a space numerous lightyears across. 20ly away would probably put you a few hexes from Earth.

Well it's assumed that most humans have some sort of stake on earth...hence it is a special case. Figure out where you want your empire, talk it over with the other Earth powers, then get back to me.

I think I'll place myself in the bottom-left, some 9 hexes out from Earth. I'd like to be fairly centrally located, but without any close neighbors... so if I end up with someone who wants roughly the same position, make me a +X and the other guy a -X for the Z-coord.

Map minorly adjusted. Didn't know the distances were THAT silly. Anyway, I'm still on the border thanks to +5 Z axis.

Edit: Argh, right after I perfected my location.
