I really loved the bit where the Jacobi Master takes out a data disk and sneers "Utopia", implying that the whole Utopia scheme was a fraud and he trapped all those helpless refugees in deep space of a dying Universe (quickly establishing his credentials as a cunt). I notice that Simms' Master looks a little silly when he puts two thumbs up when gassing his cabinet but he looked a lot more menacing in that earlier trailer where he was angrily tapping the conference desk while surrounded with dead politicians slumped in their chairs.

Simm-Master is clearly manic, like the recent Doctors. He's cracking hilarious injokes on national TV, rating himself on killing cabinet at a stroke, and mocking the United States President. Jacobi was, as you'd kind of expect, far more bitter and menacing.

I thought he pulled the disk out to disable the guidance system on the rocket, but I've been reminded they only needed to *launch* it remotely.

I was interested to see that the 'zomg teh layzors' is apparently standard for regeneration these days. The Master's was more multicoloured, but we've seen Time Lords regenerate for decades without fireworks.

Wrong thread, but yes they were. I recognized Anthony Ainsley's laughter and Delgado beseaching the Daemons for power.

Supposedly he calms down a little in the upcoming episodes, they make a point of mentioning that immediately post regeneration he's been deliberately made more manic than usual.

They also stated that the regeneration was intended to be the same as the 9>10 regeneration, with RTD intending to make that the standard type from now on (they mention each previous regeneration seemed to be something a bit different). I noticed the Master's looked fancier, but that's probably because they FX guys have improve a bit since then.

I just hope they DO keep The Master as a recurring villain from now on. It's been too long and the Daleks are down to one rather smart example now, who won't be taking on the Doctor any time soon.

The Master, however, has seemingly gone about trying to takeover the UK, then probably the planet and more before The Doc and co. even get their pants back up. They were well and truly stuffed when we last saw them.

Oh what delicious evil one can get up to with a trusty TARDIS...

Yes, and the more stupid shit they have to invent the weaker it is. Sorry, if the Time Lords are all gone due to being 'edited to extinction', the Master should also be affected. If their planet just exploded, then it's not surprising at all that the Master survived, and the watch is just a workaround for the Doctor believing he's alone for so long. Clue for the clueless: this doesn't mean I'm unhappy the Master returned.

Course, how the FUCK the Face of Stupid Shit even KNEW is a whole different crock of shit.

I thought the face knew because the master was found on his planet, perhap the face brought him there?

I'll say this again, the Face died in the year 5 billion and change. The Master was in the year 100 trillion, 99.005 trillion years later. Saying 'oh he was found on his planet' is like saying Captain fucking Cook knows about me, because he was around here two hundred years ago.

Sure, he could have jumped a time machine, but then he could just be a hardcore plotter. Either way it requires more explanation than 'zomg same planet but separated by 99% of the universe's lifespan thus he knows automatically'.

Thus he's not really helping at all: if the Face hadn't said anything at all, it wouldn't have made a difference either way. It's not the like Doctor went looking for Time Lords or anything.

And Saxon *was* already active in the 21st century, so he could have noticed that - but then apparently the Doctor couldn't detect another Time Lord because even though he was in the past he hadn't 'caught up' yet ... or something.

And another thing, the Master was supposed to be out of regenerations, yet in The Five Doctors, he was offered "a new cycle" of regenerations.

Could the 13 regenerations simply be a rule imposed by now-extinct Time Lord society, and in reality a Time Lord can regenerate as often as he likes?

1) I hope so. Maybe after he settles down a bit after running roughshod over everyone with no one to stop him.

2) The Master was frequently trying to get new regenerations one way or another. The 12 regenerations does seem like a limit (since when did The Master care about societal limitation?), but one that can be overcome only with great difficulty. Maybe he stole the regenerations from some Timelord less cagey than the Doctor.

I was thinking it was more of a law enforcement thing that was enforced by arcane TimeLordyness.

The DW:EU puts the reason for the 12 regenerations limit as the result of TimeLords having the overwhelming tendancy simply giving up the Will to Live once they have lived long enough.
