Adobe Reader glitch on Vista

Post by General Zod »

So, I've had Adobe installed for some time on Vista now, and despite the most recent update, it still refuses to open pdf files by double-clicking them. Has anyone else seen this glitch, and more importantly does anyone else know how to fix it? I can still open the files by running Acrobat from the start menu and opening a pdf from there, but it's a bit of a hassle when I should just be able to double-click. So any solutions would be super.

Jokers telling me to get a new OS or another reader program will be castrated.

Whats wrong with Foxit reader? Yes, I know you said no other programs, but if you're just reading PDFs, Foxit loads faster and generally is stabler then adobe reader.

Foxit doesn't have some of the features I like, and the way it renders pdfs don't turn out quite right for some of my ebooks.

You would get at it through an explorer window, then tools->folder options, and the file types tab is there. Find pdf in it, hit edit. In there, there should be an open action - edit it so it points at your acrobat reader exe and it should work, if they didn't change it.

Also, an easier way might be uninstall then reinstall your reader program.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice. Nothing. I've also attemtped to change the file associations manually, and it doesn't even list Reader among the program options. Needless to say I find this rather annoying.

I tried using 8.1, but it still gave me the association problem. :/

In the program listing for manual association don't just look at the listing, select browse and go to Program Files/whatever and look for the exe file of the reader.

Ok, the registry might be invisibly jacked up. Find the association in the registry and make sure it's correct.
