Need help identifying two Decepticons

Post by Executor32 »

I have two 80's Decepticons that I can't seem to find any information on. One is a robotic spider, and the other is a jeep/Land Rover type vehicle. The spider was made by Hasbro in 1987, and the jeep thing was made by Takara (no date). I've included pics of their robot and alternate modes.

And yes, the spider is missing the leg piece on one side

Unless I'm mistaken, the Land Rover is an Autobot named Brawn. Not sure about the spider Decepticon, though.

You are correct, sir. Now I just need to find out the other one. :?

Also, oddly enough, Brawn's listed as an Autobot at every site I can find, even though this toy has a Decepticon sticker on it.

That's an Autobot sticker on his chest. Where do you see a Decepticon sticker?

All official 1987 Decepticons can be found here

Needless to say just skimming through it, no decepticon looks like that. In fact the spider looks like he has an autobot symbol.

However it also doesn't seem to match any of the 1987 Autobots. Are you sure it was made in 1987?

Er, right in front of me? I can tell the difference between the two, you know. :P

Well, thanks to the wonder of macro mode (and a desk lamp to make this POS camera actually focus on it properly, here's a close-up:

Also, thank you, the other one is indeed Nautilator, as I remember seeing several of the accessories shown on that site at my grandma's house and wondering what the fuck they were from. Now I know. :D

That Brawn appears to be missing parts of its arms. See. The best way to check if it is a bootleg and not just a toy with the wrong sticker is to look for a copyright.

It's Brawn. It's not his fault that you were a dumb kid and put the wrong sticker on him.

That's an Autobot sticker. He just got his factions mixed up.

That is not an Autobot decal on that Brawn figure.

That's not Brawn. It's...Swindle, I think his name was? Or was it Brawl? In any case, it's one of the Combaticons that join up to form Bruticus.

Only way I could think of the sticker mix up is there were some hologram type stickers that you could rub and it would change symbol, maybe it wore out?

It's Brawn, who was very similar to another Autobot called Outback.

The spider thing is Nautillor, who was a member of the seacons who could combine to form Pihranacon.

Swindle is totally different.

If I remember correctly there was an episode of the cartoon where Brawn/Outback was reprogrammed by Megatron into a decepticon to build a solar powered weapon in the amazon. Maybe its a rare collectors edition! or maybe you put the wrong sticker on it as a kid.

I already posted that Seibertron.com gallery. Haha.

Looks like an old legit Brawn. Shame that the arms broke off. Didn't the minibots have pre-applied stickers? I wonder how that Decepticon sticker got on there.

If only it had the arms. An Autobot with Decepticon decals on it, from the factory, would be a collector's item.

Look at the top of the sticker. It looks like someone took it off a Decepticon and put it on Brawn.

Maybe not. A lot of the G1 faction decals often ended up looking like that just through age and wear.

It doesn't have lines running from the eyes down to the jawline. The chin is pointed instead of squared. There are clear spikes on top of the head, rather than being mostly flat with a small rounded area in the center. The eyes are triangular rather than quadrilateral. There are no lines from the upper corner of the eyes to the edge of the face. It's a Decepticon decal.
