I remember hearing about this - on SDN actually. Which means it's at least two years old, probably somewhat more.
That said, TIE Fighter was actually the sole reason I kept my old Windows 95 computer for as long as I did. I wonder, would the TC keep the joystick-twist rolling features from X-Wing Alliance? Because that's really the only thing I missed upon going back to TIE Fighter (other than the graphics).

EDIT: It only replaces the missions, voices, cutscenes, and the models/2D graphics. The game itself is still XWA, so it still plays the same.
