Help! I can't remember the name of this TV show

Post by weemadando »

There was a show that I watched for a while in the 90s - it was pretty mediocre, but it had a few notable episodes. The show focused on a journalist who had unknowingly stumbled onto an alien invasion and began to investigate and then trying to expose it.

There were some weird tangents (I seem to recall one about amphibious people), but there was a really notable episode for me where several people were holed up in a cellar as the invasion gets underway. In a Lifeboat-esque manner they turn on each other until its revealed that some of them were actors told to play certain parts and its eventually uncovered that it was a large scale test of a reaction to an invasion scenario...

WHAT THE HELL WAS THIS SHOW?

The main character in First Wave wasn't a journalist, but I remember seeing parts of an episode very similar to the one described in the OP. Was Nostradamus ever mentioned in the show you were watching? If he wasn't, it probably wasn't First Wave.

That'd be it!

Did anyone else watch it? And what did they think of it?

I quite liked First Wave, but like so many shows - other examples are Prey and SAAB they got cancelled just when they were getting really interesting.
TVWP: "Janeway says archly, "Sometimes it's the female of the species that initiates mating." Is the female of the species trying to initiate mating now? Janeway accepts Paris's apology and tells him she's putting him in for a commendation. The salamander sex was that good."
"Not bad - for a human"-Bishop to Ripley

One of the main characters was a bit of a journalist, if you count occult websites.

I watched a few of the episodes, but it couldn't hold my attention. Something about the way the show was written made it feel very, very flat and matter-of-factly. I can't quite put my finger on it, maybe it was the acting, maybe the writing, but I didn't really care for it.

Maybe I would have liked it better if I had followed the arc for a while but then again, I generally don't like arc-based TV series as they often end up meandering all over the place and piling on "mysteries" no-one cares about.

Sounds familiar.. like ll the other sci fi shows that appear out of nowhere and then retreat back into obscurity..

Had a noted ex porn star in it.. Not that the crappy $1 movie I picked out of a bargain bin with Traci Lords in it showed the capabilities of any actors/actresses in it.

I agree -- the premise of the show was pretty good (I particularly liked the introduction of the alien "patriot" character, Joshua), but the producers just somehow had a knack for choosing wooden actors. Rob LaBelle ("Crazy Eddie") was the only actor on the show with any real spark. BTW, here's a link to the IMDb page for the series: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0160277/

Oh, I'll bet the showed their 'capabilities' all right...

Yes, that was Traci Lords in that show...

That is one strange looking 'lady'...

On the topic of old sci-fi series, I recall there was a show that I never understood but adored.

It had a cast of a boy with red hair, a dark-skinned (not black, more like a native American) man with a one-handed crossbow, a women with an oversized headset and white clothing and a ship-like structure that had a voice of its own.

The show was originally made in France, quite old. The plot revolved the previously mentioned cast running around the world for some reason, possibly related to the Sun.

Anybody know a name?

On second thought, this may be closer to the series he's looking for.
