You are going to be waiting a loooong time, Trek can't beat Wars nuless they start a new series set after endgame and the opening episode is a tech demo with precise calcs given (and they also have to explain its DET and so on) and even then it would only be equal in ship to ship.

Couldn't happen Ender unless a Naval captain said "Full fire on that planet now with everything we have got and I mean full firepower the maxium our HTL can put out and also remmeber that an atmosphere and this range doesn't deplete our firepower by more than X%"

Then we see the damage and get a damage report on it with exact figures etc.

If that happened it would be a start but if there were some odd reason for none full firepower (a few clones on the planet or something, they wanted the enemy to get away etc).

That could hurt wars but the chances of that are near zero - its very hard to over rule a figure set in stone so I don't see it happening.

Judging from that thread it seems like the worst of the trek population has decided to come out and defend Darkstar- look at em:

I know. I was hoping that it would attract a mixed crowd, and would be a legitimate discussion of the rebuttal against DarkStar's claims. I guess I was hoping for too much, as the low-quality posters have already formed a solid defensive barrier. It will be difficult to dig them out, and no one else seems to care.

I still remember the MCallum (I think it was him) quote that the new planets in the PT are gone by the OT (He said this after TPM came out). If that means BDZ, and the visuals are screwed up like they are in TDIC or Racing the Night, then it all goes down.

As I've said elsewhere, SB is an idiot-tolerant board. Idiots here get flamed, HoSed, titled, or banned. SB doesn't allow flaming (in theory), doesn't have a HoS, doesn't title, and rarely bans. Stupidity is tolerated and from time to time even protected by the staff. There's no point in trying to deal with SB's morons in terms that they can understand because the mods will simply lock the thread.

While I agree that the rules of SB.com do protect many idiots, they are also there to protect other people, as well. I don't agree with the restrictions, but I can see why they have been implemented.

What planets are supposed to get BDZ'ed because Naboo is in SWG and they checked to make sure it wouldn't contradict Episode 3 (although that won't stop George).

I don't think McCallum is a credible source, regarding that. It would mean that both Geonosis AND Kamino would have to be destroyed, which wouldn't make a whole lot of sense in keeping with the story.

In all liklihood the planets are just not relevant.

With regards to a new Star Trek series beating Star Wars, personally I think Star Trek is dead. The last two shows have sucked, everyone seems to think Nemesis sucked- and let's face it what possible new series ideas could they possibly have?

1: A new Enterprise series? What, the Enterprise-H or something? The Original Series and The Next Generation tapped out every possible plot idea for a new Enterprise. By the seventh season TNG was already out of ideas.

What's more, the fact that Enterprise is the third Star Trek show with a starship Enterprise kills this idea even more.

2: A new space station series? Come off it.

3: A new lost in space series? Come off it.

4: A prequel? Oh wait they've already buggered that up, and it was never a bright idea to begin with

5: A Starfleet Academy series? Ugh. Wherever I heard this idea, it was a bad one, and what's more, it's not gonna get Trekkies the multi-gigaton calcs they're looking for, never mind speed, industry and size.

6: Some sort of Star Trek war show? Totally against Star Trek's MO.

And yes, MOO's essay has not been debated yet, it's mostly crap about SD and such, personally I think all of it should be deleted and started from scratch, exceptions would be Rval's and C_maniacs posts which actually addressed the essay in question, wheter they are correct or not is irrelevant.
