It ran fine. What was the problem?

It turns out that when I copied all my mods, savegame files, and such, I accidentally copied a savegame folder into the Balance Mod folder. So, I had two savegame folders: one in the normal location, and one in the Balance Mod folder. I was loading the SDN game from the main folder -- but the game was saving my player file to the one in the Balance Mod folder. So, when I went to upload my turn, I was doing it from the main folder -- whose SDN player file was out of date.Arthur_Tuxedo wrote:It ran fine. What was the problem?
When I was poking around, before reinstalling everything, I saw the savegame folder. I ran a turn for SDN, and sure enough, it was saving in the wrong directory.
So, I deleted the duplicate savegame folder in the Balance Mod directory, and poof, it worked. I'm just glad it wasn't my computer, because the game runs so much smoother on this one.

When I tried to load one of the combat replays, it instead showed a battle in the Quikil system between one of my Gladius frigates and an Acclamator V from the Galactic Empire. It wasn't a warp point battle, and I didn't see any stray Gladius's in that system, so I assume it was just a glitch, but I thought I'd confirm. Did any battle like that take place? I tried to confirm with the movement log, but it appears to be corrupted for this turn.

This happened to me before too. I think it's just the combat logs being all screwy. The one I played was in a 1 vs 1, and it had damaged fighters that looked like his, except they were my designs...
P.S. I was using the ship name acclimator...
hmmm...
Stupid galactic empire, stealing my names, evan though thats were the name is derived.

That doesn't count as a battle for RP purposes, since no shots were fired. Good thing about the glitch.

Why the hell are the buildings in that screenshot of the Eris on a diagonal? Every ground combat sim I've played has then in blocks.
Did you move them? I wonder if it's possible to move building around in the sector view of a planet. I know you can with weapons platforms etc., but never knew you could with buildings.

I don't know. Probably yet another ground combat glitch. SE V doesn't handle large numbers of troops well at all, which is why I made them so much larger and more expensive using ship weapons in my mod.

Hey, guys. I have a small problem -- pretty minor, all told, but it's confusing me, so here goes...
I'm getting "Construction Cannot Be Completed Due to Lack of Resources" messages every turn, on several of my planets, for about three turns now. The only thing is, my reports show that I've got per turn surpluses in all three resources of at least 30k. The planets all have population.
Does anyone know the problem?
Thanks.

It's something about how the your buildings can't be built via trade income, I think. Check your resources, if all of you income is trade, instead of a gathering, then you won't be able to build. The game applies trade income at the end after everything is processed and moved, or something like that. It's strange I'll admit, but I think that is your problem.

Ah, yes -- that was the problem. It turns out my previous estimate of trade was off considerably. My real value, now that I looked, is more along the lines of what Brian has. I have 150k trade, but only 120k storage... so when I load the turn, my storage bins are entirely full of resources -- which causes me to go "what the hell?" So, I ordered more resourcers, and a little bit more storage, this turn.brianeyci wrote:Solve it by building more storage facilities, and a couple turns later you'll store enough. Trade does come through after.
Only 40k? I've got 100k and I'm capping trade with everybody at 5%. If I went 30%, I'd go even higher. You need to get out more man.

I'm thinking of making enough storage bins to store five million of each resource, and offering "loans" to empires throughout the galaxy who need it.
The need for research facilities and miners is high for self-defense, but rest assured the Federation Bank will be ready to charge exorbant interest on long term loans as soon as I get enough technology to defend myself. We'll make the World Bank look like a charity. And when war comes, you'll want us. Oh yes.

I'm not having any problems, but I'm holding off on my turn until we get a ruling here.

Okay, tried again, and agan. Redownloaded the turn, started my comp up again, everything. I get an Invalid Index error and CTD no matter what I do as soon as I leave the menu. Any menu. I'm basically just not allowed to do anything this turn because of game fiat.Alan Bolte wrote:I'm not having any problems, but I'm holding off on my turn until we get a ruling here.
This is really aggrivating. Why can't someone churn the game for me?
In an extremely worst-case scenario, I'll have someone else do my turn just to cover the essentials and mail me the file. That's not something I really feel like doing, but it'd be better than missing out a turn.

I was having problems this turn, too, but nothing like that. Whenever I tried to view a certain system (Dupplin), the game would crash on me. I played my turn twice before I figured out what the problem was. But that's nothing like not being able to access the menus... I'll play the turn for you, Covenant, if it comes down to it.
Man, I wish this game was more whole. It'd be so much easier if we could play without having to worry about things like this as much as we do. I know it'll get there, but it sure is frustrating in the meantime.

Yeah. But I thought it was just my computer.
Play in full screen mode. And go to setup and see if you can turn down the detail. If all else fails go to safe mode and turn everything to minimum. SEV isn't about graphics anyway and I notice minimal difference in the look.
If you're already on safe mode, try turning on the hardware acceleration. There might be more crashes, but there might not.
They use some kind of stupid external program called ffdshow. Sometimes I have to ctrl-alt-delete and kill the process after running SEV. Sometimes the SEV process doesn't kill itself after I quit and I have to quit it on its own. I either hunt and peck for the processes to kill, or I do a hard reboot (for me a hard reboot takes 15 minutes, but for a good computer it should take 10 seconds so no big deal.)
