Data vs Inspector Gadget
Another semi-silly thread; an act of Q puts Data and France's second most iconic inspector in direct confrontation. You fill in the blanks, either Data is lost in 20th century France or the Inspector is roaming, bewildered, along the decks of the E-D, and the "home" combatant takes the visitor for an intruder.
Who takes it?
Who takes it?
The key factor I see in this is if Brain and Gadget's niece (was Penny her name?) are involved. If so, Data is screwed.

I beg to differ; without Penny or Brain around, Gadget's character shield is almost entirely removed and he might in fact have the lower hand.Bounty wrote:The versus is flawed. Gadget has an almost Bugs Bunny-level character shield; he's inspector Clouseau, but with all the optional extras. There's no way he can be hurt in fiction.

Inspector Gadget's goofy cartoon physics powers are far superior to Data's puny technobabble.
This is like asking if Data would beat Bugs Bunny. It would be no contest; Bugs Bunny would make a fool out of him.

This contest would be more akin to Monty Python's "Upper-Class Twit Of The Year" competition in which you see just how long it takes for utter morons to beat one another in the race to shoot themselves.

Oil an emergency?! It's about time, Brigadier, that the leaders of this planet of yours realised that to remain dependent upon a mineral slime simply doesn't make sense.

Gadget's gadgets, while prone to malfunction, always malfunction in ways that get him out of trouble. His luck seems enough to let him win a confrontation with Data.
And I second the "Since when is Gadget French?" question. I thought he was American?

Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

I guess Gadget's country of residence is open to interpretation; wikipedia states that the series was produced in France, Canada and Japan primarily, but debuted in France.

He's held open trash compactor-like pits lined with spikes using only his telescoping limbs. I'd say that if nothing else, he's definetly stronger than Data.Kamakazie Sith wrote:If this is a serious discussion then Gadget is fucked. Feel free to refresh my memory, but I can't think of any single time that Gadget did something on his own that would make him a significant threat to Data.

Was the crushing power of these trash compactors established? Explosives seem to be extremely weak in Gadget's universe, so everything else might be as well.TithonusSyndrome wrote:He's held open trash compactor-like pits lined with spikes using only his telescoping limbs. Because the notes Quimby sends to Gadget seldom do anything other than black his face? My first impression was that it was a testament to the durability of the unobtainium that Gadget's transforming vehicle was made out of.Kamakazie Sith wrote:Actually, I was thinking more of the missiles used by Dr. Claw's vehicle.TithonusSyndrome wrote:

Explosives are not weak in the Gadget universe. An elevator full of conventional explosives is powerful enough to sink an island.
Gadget is insane. He can't even comprehend the idea of killing someone, and misses the most obvious clues. That being said, he can punch holes in walls with his arms, fly, run circles around Data like a hockey player and shoot a laser from his fingertips. It might take just one hit by Data, but it's not as if Data's invincible himself. If you look closely you might find that a lot of the "malfunctions" might be deliberate. Gadget's "malfunctions" let him take out a whole bar of huge wrestlers, and that's just the start.

Well, cartoons aren't known for being consistent.brianeyci wrote:Explosives are not weak in the Gadget universe. An elevator full of conventional explosives is powerful enough to sink an island.
I guess that's possible, but I highly doubt Gadget is making those mistakes deliberately because by doing so he places Penny in a lot of danger when she tries to keep him from getting harmed.Gadget is insane. C'mon... ridiculously CGI-enhanced Matthew Broderick against the Voice of Don Adams? Who do you think is the real Gadget?MariusRoi wrote:Just a second everyone!
Cartoon or Live Action* Gadget?

I don't recall Gadget's origins ever being established in the series, but I'm still pretty certain that whoever was responsible for turning him into a cybernetic Swiss Army knife didn't do so with the knowledge that his niece and her dog would be tagging along after him.Kamakazie Sith wrote:I guess that's possible, but I highly doubt Gadget is making those mistakes deliberately because by doing so he places Penny in a lot of danger when she tries to keep him from getting harmed.brianeyci wrote: Gadget is insane. Come to think of it, what the fuck is wrong with Penny's parents?
