Insurgency (HL2) Impressions.
Only about half an hour of gameplay so far, but its looking good.
In fact, it looks fantastic.
It sounds like the gunfire in Heat (loud, loud LOUD).
Lots of variety in the maps.
Good tactical level gameplay (options for the squad leaders to mark objectives and very simple voice calls).
Weapons feel pretty good, accuracy isn't spot on, but nor should it be - I can see a lot of CS kids complaining about this.
I'll be playing it a lot I think. Its a serious contender for the crown of "A Modern Red Orchestra".

More impressions.
The Squad system is good. Commanders are brilliantly structured with a good waypoint and command system.
Players seem to be almost entirely composed of a) CS guys who drop in and whinge then disappear and b) RO players who seem to like it.
A few bugs with deployable items, but its still pretty reliable overall.
Maps are well designed, lots of built-up areas, damaged/abandoned cars, rubble strewn sidewalks and more.
I can't wait for another patch or two to fix some of the glitches and optimise more.

So, what is this exactly? A mod? Do you have a link? It looks interesting from what you've posted (similar to BF2's Project Reality from the sound of it).

Insurgency, I'm surprised people hadn't encountered the hype.

Given what you've said it sounds like OFP / ArmA but on the Source engine.

That's a fair description.2000AD wrote:Given what you've said it sounds like OFP / ArmA but on the Source engine.
I think the respawn system needs some work - I've spawned IN people a few times. But more importantly, there's no real indication of how well your side is going, how many team reinforcement waves are left etc.
Also - a fucking in game map would be great.
I agree for the ingame map. Additionally, you can see how many waves of reinforcements you have by looking at your compass. That little clenched fist icon with the number by it? That's the reinforcement waves. Big problem with it is some servers run infinite reinforcements for Insurgents and on, I think it's the name, Ramadi, the marines are fubar'd, especially on push. I think the marines should actually benefit from having body armor, especially if they're facing unending waves of insurgents. Aside from that, I really like the mod.

What's the corpsman actually do?
I think that you should be able to get to a body and "use" it, to deduct it from your respawn count (effectively "saving" a casualty, if not resurrecting it)... But given the wave system I don't know how well that could work.
And yeah, I also think that giving the Marines a few more powers (airstrike etc) would be hot and a good balancing factor.
