What the blue blazes does that mean? There's always been a chance to roll in with a new power. Since well before you joined STGODing, in fact.Adrian Laguna wrote:I oppose back-up powers. If you lose a war you should take it like a man.

You do take it like a man, and your old power fades into obscurity as future Museum filler. However, STGODS is not Command&Conquer. You don't 'win' by killing off everyone else. The idea is to play out this little shared world, and generally to do so in combat since that's fun, but there should be no latent desire to remove other players from the game. You should act in-character and within the bounds of diplomacy and reason, and not seek out ways to kill off other nations merely to leave your race as the last player-controlled one standing.Adrian Laguna wrote:I oppose back-up powers. Backup powers may seem silly, but they're not 'extra lives'. A backup power might ally with the guy who obliterated his old one, for example. If my Dinosaurs get obliterated in a massive war, I might make a human nation, for something different, or something like that. It's about fun, not about victory.

Rerolling a new power is taking it like a man. If anything people that are prepared to do that make the game more interesting because it doesn't encourage people to be as protective of their precious little empires.Adrian Laguna wrote:I know. How much time has passed since the fleet build-up began? I would like to see some political ramifications coming about because of this, as I am currently unable to do anything because I only have 1 courier vessel, my Emissary, 2 Terrordrones and 2 Siegedrones free to do anything, as everything else has to stay stationed because of the massive fleet.
I may make a second power so I can play some more as I currently don't have many options until something breaks.

What kind of response are you expecting?Thirdfain wrote:Are the NGTO going to respond to the assorted declarations anytime soon? It's been forever.
The NGTO is conducting its fleet training exercises in Nephilim space, due to their apparent vulnerability to Herald hostility. A willingness to allow an investigatory team to look around has been expressed, but no one seems to have despatched one yet. You've declared that you're allied with the Heralds, which is fine, then you've arrogantly declared that you don't want other nations to do joint fleet exercises in their own space, which has been quite rightly ignored. You've then proceeded to smuggle nukes to African terrorists. AFAIK game time is proceeding as normal.

I get the impression we're six to eight weeks into the game (discounting a month plus of pregame stuff), so about a month I suppose, though I may be mistaken on this.Dark Hellion wrote:How much time has passed since the fleet build-up began?
There have been plenty. You're not blockaded. A border opposite you has just been reinforced due to your 'obvious' aggressive tendencies. You have as many options as anyone else.I would like to see some political ramifications coming about because of this,
Perhaps various people are waiting for an official statement of whether you're going to pay reparations to the League for destroying one of their ships and return the diplomatic ships you illegally seized from a sovereign Kingdom.Thirdfain wrote:I was hoping, however, for some sort of official statement on the matter.

Um, is that even a response to my question? Keep the in-game sniping, um, in-game. If you want to criticize my just actions, feel free to do so in the game thread. This is not the place, dude.Thirdfain wrote: Perhaps various people are waiting for an official statement of whether you're going to pay reparations to the League for destroying one of their ships and return the diplomatic ships you illegally seized from a sovereign Kingdom.

Um, we've had weeks of only moderate action going on. I've started a vote in the Coalition, and there's the scuttlebutt in Africa, and I don't intend on sitting on my thumbs.Starglider wrote:Seriously, there's plenty of players who haven't done anything yet, perhaps we should give them a chance to make a move. You and to a lesser extent the NGTO players have done far more than anyone else so far.

Is it wrong to be tempted to just go bugfuck crazy on some poor bastard just to get something going? Because currently my main diplomatic session is kind of dragging along due to real life issues amongst the guys I'm playing with.

How good are orbital sensors, could an orbital Sensor grid be used to detect nuclear material, for example, or track all ships near a countries's borders. And could I monitor an entire countries coms if I am the legitimate government? Just a curiosity, before Operation STFU begins.
Oh thirdfan, would any of your mercs still be in the country, I may have to make some scapegoats to execute publicly while I show how I took over, again.

Pick up nuclear material? That's fairly ridiculous. Tracking all sea traffic is equally unlikely.Redleader34 wrote:How good are orbital sensors, could an orbital Sensor grid be used to detect nuclear material, for example, or track all ships near a countries's borders. I don't know why you'd try and do this from orbit anyway. Current day sensor technology is apparently good enough to have a high chance of catching attempts to smuggle weapons into the US, according to Stuart anyway, and I expect sensor quality has improved since then. However, that's for a pretty industrialised and built up country and AFAIK pretty much assumes the weapons are coming in through ports or customs points, not cross-country. I don't know if Redleader has comparable infrastructure across all of Africa.SirNitram wrote:Pick up nuclear material? That's perfectly plausible IMHO. The Soviets launched marine tracking satellites with nuclear-powered active radar starting from 1967. Current camera resolution is sufficient to track all surface vessels by visual and IR imaging (subject to weather limitations), there just aren't enough cameras up there to track everything. With lots of stations and satellites all major nations should be able to do this unless the ships have some sort of advanced camouflage (and avoiding radar as well as hiding the IR signature will probably take military grade tech).Tracking all sea traffic is equally unlikely.for example, or track all ships near a countries's borders.
The US has been able to do this to hostile countries for decades. You use satellites for radio (and presumably FTL) signals and network taps for hardline monitoring. However anything of any consequence will be heavily encrypted and sifting the relevant info out of the enormous mass of data flying around is already very hard, and likely only to get worse. And could I monitor an entire countries coms if I am the legitimate government? Just a curiosity, before Operation STFU begins.
