Good point on the sea-traffic.
BTW, any Sol powers want to notice the ambassador whose waiting patiently at the Heliopause?

For Africa, I have it that, the cities are fairly oldish, like New York Circa 20010, and the most industrial parts were south Africa, and The East, but most of the people live in huge multi city regions in orbit. I have mostly satlite stations in deep central africa, as well as a terraforming station, since the trees were destroyed back in the great oil wars, I had to re terraform the forests. The North has a few cities, and the massive O'Neil cylinder attached to Earth is the New Mombasa Heights station. I was wondering if I could turn my DEW network Satlites inwards to see what was going on, sinnc e we could do a lot of the things, as Starglider pointed out, with tech from the 60s, o since we are in the FUTURE we could easily blockade an entire region if I was willing to spent time with it.

So that comes out to 115780 targets then? Hmm... some might run out of ammunition.Nephtys wrote:For reference, I have deployed approximately...

Into the Sol system. I've got the exact formation/unit details/point distribution if a mod wants them for their judgment. But I figure leaving some uncertainty will be fun.

They're at the moment, orbitting Sol closely. While keeping a substantial concentration aimed at Earth. Not quite the same as advancing for a lunch of apes 'n taters.
Well. In my mind, I see them as not quite destroyed by PD fire. But capital weapons can work fine. Possibly against multiple targets. You know, the kind of battle where there's no detail except a beam somehow blowing up like six targets in the distance, with little booms.

While I like your narrative, I have to point out that there's no way you can eclipse the sun or indeed be visible to the naked eye without getting a lot closer to earth than that, even with 100,000 ships of 0.2km^2 cross section each.Nephtys wrote:They're at the moment, orbitting Sol closely. I note that Nephtys doesn't have any points on internal security or secure comms, but that there's no way conventional espionage or signals intelligence is going to work on a bunch of continuum warping space monsters. Perhaps dissection of captured specimens might prove fruitful? If the computing technology in their 'brains' is as behind the curve as the rest of their ships, it should be relatively easy to pull data out of.
They're not robots, they're like a bizzare form of life, so you won't be able to just 'extract info.' Plus, they're really not all that smart, so I doubt you'll find much besides a set of code like:Starglider wrote:Perhaps dissection of captured specimens might prove fruitful? I know that my size won't physically block out the sun. My FTL method in such quantity however, probably could.Starglider wrote:While I like your narrative, I have to point out that there's no way you can eclipse the sun or indeed be visible to the naked eye without getting a lot closer to earth than that, even with 100,000 ships of 0.2km^2 cross section each.Nephtys wrote:They're at the moment, orbitting Sol closely. I don't have points in internal security, since I also cannot conduct intelligence of my own. Or even diplomacy too easily. I figure that sorta works.

Fun Fact about my Catholic Priests: "I serve the Lord first and foremost" basically makes the "second and last" loyalty to the Church moot. If the priest feels the Church is not doing God's work, then said priest can in good conscience act against the Church. Though generally speaking acting against the Church also means acting against the Monarch, since no Cardinal becomes Pope that the King does not like. So they get to be a Heretic and a Traitor.

They have authorised me, their pitiful mortal drone, to issue the following press release regarding said course of action:Thirdfain wrote: Or deal with the evil aliens eating the universe from outside, Them.
Bring it, you faint-hearted wusses.
Honestly, I detest my power enough that I'm giving made up single system powers Mary-Sue characters to oppose me.
Seriously, by their absurd intel expenditures the Reskye, the Oberin Imperiate, Ahn'Qiraj: The Empire of the Sun, Bootswellington, and quite possibly the Chamara Kingdom and Polish Hegemony should all at least know that something is seriously not right in the Galactic South. The Wanderers, being closest, probably know more.

A quick point of some significant importance- the Sol Early Warning network would detect a force of this size at a significant distance out; we'd have hours of prewarning of the incoming squadron. And you can bet your pants I'd send interdictors to keep such a major, anannounced battlefleet from arriving so close to Earth.

The Mothership will arrive in a few minuets, and the fleet from Neos will warp in to find the OMGWTF of these aliens. Lets just say that this will make the battle of Endor look small

Aside from your usual evil space monster rumors which are going to get all mixed up with reports of Nephtys, they really shouldn't have much. Remember that the Wanderers also put fifty points into their external intel apparatus, and that They have been pretty damned quiet until the current surge of evil.Starglider wrote:But the poor Kingdom of Isdenestilom is completely oblivious?consequences wrote:Seriously, by their absurd intel expenditures the Reskye, the Oberin Imperiate, Ahn'Qiraj: The Empire of the Sun, Bootswellington, and quite possibly the Chamara Kingdom and Polish Hegemony should all at least know that something is seriously not right in the Galactic South. Talked to Nitram about it. The reason we figured I could drop such a large fleet was that my seedthingy landed and made a nice home in Sol without trouble. So a very precise de-warp right on top of it was okay.Thirdfain wrote:A quick point of some significant importance- the Sol Early Warning network would detect a force of this size at a significant distance out; we'd have hours of prewarning of the incoming squadron. As the only non-Sol-power Mod, I would be the only uninvolved party. I had assumed Nephtys would not simply do it immediately and would let people know the horde was coming.
I'm sure a few dozen ships got snagged by interdictors. There simply aren't sufficient ones to stop this many targets. That will no doubt be adapted to in time. There.

I somehow think this many ships appearing in Sol is going to be a surprise no matter how much forewarning you get.Thirdfain wrote:The real question is forwarning; if we see the fleet incoming, and it's not a surprise, the situation is much different.

Perhaps someone should ask the Vac 'WTF are those things?' They haven't done much yet.
Retconning forewarning shouldn't be a problem as presumably the states involved kept the info secret, and there was no way to know in advance about the solar dimming effect that made the arrival blatantly obvious to everyone.

Even if this is ALL of Nephty's forces, it won't appear that threatening; it's power output won't be that massively big, and will in fact be FAR smaller than that of the assorted national fleets in-system. We can bandy all these huge numbers around, but this is essentially a force far to small to threaten Earth. The number of hulls is unimportant, detecting it's power output will display that it is in fact a fairly paltry force, albeit a surprising and threatening one.SirNitram wrote:I somehow think this many ships appearing in Sol is going to be a surprise no matter how much forewarning you get.Thirdfain wrote:The real question is forwarning; if we see the fleet incoming, and it's not a surprise, the situation is much different.
