This guy needs to take a serious web design class, as well. You can kind of tell most of these nutjob sites out: they're usually designed with minimal knowledge of an editor like FrontPage, and they try to cram as much multimedia garbage in as small a space as possible.

agreed. it´s full of these typical flash elements such as crapy, standard waving and fading fonts. furthermore it makes my browser crash after the "intro" page.Crayz9000 wrote:This guy needs to take a serious web design class, as well. The core argument that you need here is: There is no ark. If there WAS any historical value in the fable, the ark was a big raft that a farmer stuck his pigs on during a flood of the land between the Tigris and the Euphrates.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Open challenge to any fundie in the world: build a wooden boat full of stalls that's structurally sound, seaworthy, 1000 feet long, and make it float for six months.
I don't care about finding this mythical Noah's Ark: just prove that it's even physically POSSIBLE to build it. With all the money these assholes throw toward propaganda campaigns, you'd think they'd be able to find the time to disprove the shipbuilders who say it can't be done.

they´ll just claim that it was possible with the help of god in case it violates any physical laws.Darth Wong wrote:Open challenge to any fundie in the world: build a wooden boat full of stalls that's structurally sound, seaworthy, 1000 feet long, and make it float for six months.

I have to wonder about these people...
They took images of a site from either satellite or aircraft, probably the latter based on angle and resolution.
The built a website of the images and made their claim known.
They did all sorts of work with the images to try and prove their claim.
But...
They never bothered to go up that mountain and take up close pictures and do research on the supposed relic.
I wonder if this is the same mountain in Turkey that some other idiot claimed to have the ark on it's top. If so the locals that lived below the mountain found it quite amusing to find western idiots climbing up to get a look at a supposed ancient ship up there. Before I may any real claims to the world where my reputation is at stake, I would think it would be wise to ask the villagers about it and make sure that isn't the ruins where old man Farelly tried to build a house a few years back.
I love the 'eyewitness' section of the page where it that a professor said something up there has the 'misures' of the ark. A bit misleading don't you think?
Another one said
I also wonder how anyone would confuse a large square box on the top of a mountain with a submarine.
If you need definitive proof, look at the drawing from Herb Knee. It's professional work from a six-year old artist, he even drew little circles in the air for clouds. One wonders what marvels he could have captured had cameras been around in the 1950's.
Could there be something up there? Sure, but it's far more likely to be an ancient structure like a fortress or cabin than a ship. Of course the only way to know is to get up there and document it, something that these claimants seem unwilling to do.

A similar structure on the north side too??? Just how many Arks are up there? In 1985 , talking about the Ark, General Havens said:
"We've seen it. We have photos of it....It is on a ledge...My pilots had seen a similar structure on the north side of Mount Ararat..."
This makes it clear that the ark is quite approachable, so where exactly are the modern expeditions with the major networks in tow?…Other relatives and friend of the alleged Russian discoverers such as Mrs. Gladys Evans have claimed that this incident was based in reality and have retold the stories as follows. Evans said that her father entertained three former Russian flyers who were part of the search team. They left her father a document (which has now been destroyed in cleaning) which stated the men’s names, birth places, ages, ranks in the Air Force, name of their plane. Mrs Evans continued below.
They told how the Ark was “half in and half out of a lake a log floating in water. It was an immense thing, and it had cages some with metal on them. It had a catwalk on top and the door was off. The door was nearby and had apparently been struck by lightning because it was partly burnt. The Ark was just as good as the day it was built.” The wood reminded them of oleander.
When they first saw the Ark from the air, they thought it was a submarine, but couldn’t figure out why someone would be building it on a mountain. On the later reconnaissance expedition, these three airmen actually got inside the Ark where they took pictures and measurements. The film was turned over to the Russian ...

Yet another person saying we need an expedition up there to prove anything.- Schwinghammer :....I can say to have seen something really strange on that mountain, but only expeditions and scientists can prove the presence of the ark....I believe in God...

Its amazing that they take an off-color square box as proof that the story of Noah happened just like in the Bible yet they demand absolutely flawless, perfect evidence from the "evolutionists"

Even I wouldn't bother with those claims (and for those few who don't know, I'm a pre-ministerial candidate). As far as I'm concerned, the Pentateuch doesn't need to be taken literally. As H. Gunkel said, those stories aren't meant to be historically accurate; they're in the literary style of saga, much like the enuma elish or the Odyssey. While the stories likely have some basis in historical fact, they have been exaggerated as the oral tradition was passed down (like Noah and the Ark growing from what was probably a small village of farmers recognizing coming flood conditions and building rafts to survive). Since floods on the Jordan were rare (particularly among the Big Three Rivers of Mesopotamia), it would eventually become known as THE Flood, and grow in legend. There most likely was no Ark, and even if there was, it would likely not exist now due to decomposition, even at high altitudes and low temperatures.

I read somewhere that the modern consensus is that the most likely source for the flood myths of the region (the Bible, Gilgamesh etc) stem from the flooding of the basin which we now know as the Black Sea by the Mediterranean...The Dark wrote:Even I wouldn't bother with those claims (and for those few who don't know, I'm a pre-ministerial candidate). I've got a better challenge for any fundamentalist: show evidence that there was a flood large enough to cover the two peaks here in water that is deep enough for a ship the size of the mythical ark to float on.Darth Wong wrote:Open challenge to any fundie in the world: build a wooden boat full of stalls that's structurally sound, seaworthy, 1000 feet long, and make it float for six months.

I took this image into photoshop and there was absolutely nothing about the photo on the left that lends to the photo on the right... if by "computer elaboration" they mean that they added the boat, then yes, the picture on the right is a computer elaboration. But the boat DOES NOT exist in the left picture.

And you'd have to make this thing structurally sound enough to allow for whatever deluge that these guys keep saying. That great layer of ice or water or whatever that was supposed to be absurdly hanging in the sky. And yet Noah mentions nothing about the sky changing color or anything of the sort. Not to mention that freshwater or saltwater fish would all be dead, as well as all plantlife. Why do fundies use shellfish in mountain sides as a credible evidence to disprove evolution, disregarding tectonic plate theory, but can't seem to give a good reason why there are still trees?Darth Wong wrote:Open challenge to any fundie in the world: build a wooden boat full of stalls that's structurally sound, seaworthy, 1000 feet long, and make it float for six months.
