Equally stupid. It's a slot loading drive, there's nothing wrong with running that through the software as there's no tray to stick a button on. And since you can open it during boot I don't see the complaint.

Right, so when my Powersupply gives up the ghost (or any of the other myriad of problems that could keep a Mac from booting properly) I should have to send the computer back to Apple with my disk still inside because I can't just stick a pin in the drive to open it and unless I've been much misinformed, installing a new powersupply is something that can only be done by certified Mac technicians at their ultrasecure lab in Area-51.

Not that I'm claiming it was well managed.
Yeah, it sounds like your job's IT department is in a real mess if they can't even control what servers get placed on the network.

That specific example was done away with years ago, but, is it a good idea for the IT department to have control over what resources the Software Engineering department can establish and use?

Yes, that's what you have change processes for. IT's job is to match business needs to IT services and assets. They can't just say "no" unless there's a valid reason, e.g. the request is technically impossible, impractical or illegal.

Some units had an emergency eject for slot load drives such as the first PowerBook G4. I haven't found documentation for other units.
One question about a mac OS, does it has OS like microsoft word, powerpoint or Excel?
My school works are quite computer based, and not a single teacher is using a mac. If microsoft OS cannot open or edit mac OS works...then another reason for me to continue using a PC. Like I can afford a mac as a home computer if I still need another PC to do my school works.

Do you...know what an OS(Operating system) is?
For reference, Microsoft has office for Mac, and Macs themselves have their own office suits used.

Yes...OS is things like vista,XP etc right? I'm asking if the mac OS has application like MS word, powerpoint or excel. If so, can they be opened using a windows OS? I made a typing error. Should not have type 'has OS like microsoft word'. My bad.

Jesus Christ, it's 2007. Walk on down to your Community College(or if you're still in High School, sign up for whatever "Information Systems" class they have) and take a intro course.
Yes, a file with a *.doc suffix(or, as we in "the biz" call it, a file extension) will open on a Mac version of MS Word just as well on a Windows version of MS Word. It's all about the file types.
