Put prostitution in a context where potential harm to the individuals and society is very small (as mentioned: legalized, gov't monitored, very low STD transmission) and the question boils down to whether two adults can concent to having sex.

Ehhh.

It is not immoral, but people will have issues with "regulation" of prostitution. Who pays for this? The government i.e. taxpayers? I doubt you will find that support here in America. But why bother with regulation anyway? What keeps a woman that has contracted an STD and who (assumption here) makes a good buck, from even paying heed to regulations? Christ, we regulate drivers...

ANd you would probably hear from Sociologists who would bring up points that many prostitutes are young (or started out young) who suffered from sexual abuse or abuse in general, drugs or other ills and that they should seek help and not "demean" themselves. The life of a typical street walker is not a good one.

BUT, I guess regulation would also put Pimps out of business and dammit, that would put your local pimp out on the street owing all that money for his custom Escalade...now you wouldn't want to do that would you?

Bah...no easy answer.
