Now you're playing with POWER. OMG.
I met Shigeru Miyamoto today.
He rocked.
And he signed my DS Lite.
My life is complete.
Blog link, more info
I also met all the G4 stars, got Adam Sessler's autograph, and chatted with the IGN Nintendo team and Nintendo Executive Vice President yesterday, as well as tons of other awesome people.
See blog post.
Even if he's not fluent, the man has travelled quite a bit so I'd expect he'd know "hello". Plus, even if it's Japanese, it's Miyamoto speaking! You can't wash your ears again after that! Ever!MRDOD wrote:Does Miyamoto even speak English fluently? Did Miyamoto say anything?
I would say something witty and cruel, but I am a tangled web of hate and jealosy right now.

Well I, er... But...Waaah.... .
Seriously though, sounds like an awesome day, you lucky bastard .
Although I would like to ask a question that I've been musing (Regardless of this), just what do you say to all these celebrities? Just "Could you sign/autograph this?" or "Wow, you're XX Aren't you" or "I'm sorry, but you have an amazing resemblance to XX" (When unsure) or something a bit more original?

You know, guys...I thought the day was perfect. I was wrong.
Now the day is perfect.
Reggie Fils-Aime. He confirmed to me that he can, in fact, kill a man by looking at him.
The corner of the R from Reggie's name is starting to rub off already. The DS Lite's plastic does not seem to hold the Sharpie very well. If I get the DS Lite lacquered...will it look fine?

But besides that, cool!

Spray-on lacquer, like you use for miniatures.
Get some NOW before that wears off.
Or hell, try hairspray, see if that sets it or kills the sharpie (try it on something similar first.)
Dude... did you meet up with Morgan Webb as well?

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

Okay, so I'm sitting in the Apple store making the post about Reggie on their WiFi network, right? I walk out of the Apple store, and we (me and Mark, other NP guy here with me) see two Japanese guys that seem oddly familiar. So I walk up to the older one and start chatting, he only speaks Japanese, I ask what company, he understands and says Nintendo, convo is a bit awkward for a minute.
We talk, we show him we're Nintendo Players, we shake hands, we leave. We start talking about how oddly familiar he is. I stop. On a hunch, I walk back into the Apple store and type in Google, "Aonuma". Bam, that older Japanese guy's face pops up. My jaw drops, and I turn my head to look outside of the Apple store to see Aonuma standing there, as Miyamoto walks up to him with a couple other Japanese guys (totalling five) and they group together in a circle.
E3 is over at this point; we had lunch, we went in the Apple store, and BAM, here's a Nintendo buddy group on a shopping trip!
So now I got Aonuma (Director of Zelda) to sign my DS too, and we got a sweet pic!

From Miyamoto's interviews with Kotaku, he understands English just fine- he probably just prefers to speak in Japanese when it comes to making non-prepared statements to the press.

I tracked down a store that was supposed to have it but it was gone. How much time do I have and what stores can I find it at? Can I wait till tomorrow?LadyTevar wrote:

I tried for Morgan but she left while I was being photographed with Olivia Munn and chatting with Jessica Chobot. But a few other people got to talk to her, I'll definitely be able to next year if there's another E3 with a similar setup.
Can anyone tell me what stores I can buy lacquer in? Will it still be okay tomorrow?

"Oh, thanks, appreciate it!"
"So, what do you think of the new E3 format this year?"
etc.
Olivia Munn was similar. Jessica Chobot was a bit different. She came over to chat with Olivia Munn (they clearly knew each other) right after we took our picture together. I was standing there staring at her, as I know Jessica Chobot very well from her blog and IGN podcasts (sorry Ace Pace) and she had come out of nowhere. As soon as Olivia walked away and Jessica started to turn to leave I walked up and introduced myself. Something like:
"Hi, you're Jessica Chobot, right? I read your blog on IGN. I'm kind of a noob here this year."
We got into a very good conversation about being new to the industry and the changes this year.
Really, at an exclusive show like this, they're going to regard you as fellow press rather than raving fanboy. But even at other events, if you approach them like a chum, "Hey man, I watch your show all the time, love it" rather than "OMG you're ADAM SESSLER AUTOGRAPH ME MAN!" you're more likely to have a good conversation with them.
I only made one exception, and that was Miyamoto, first time I saw him. I was struck speechless and dumbfounded the instant I saw him and I think I only got two sentences out. "Can you sign?" and "Thank you, your work is my childhood..." The guy I was with never said a word, he was so nervous.
Did I mention that my DS has the Geometry Wars Alpha on it? I played a multiplayer game against the dev, I was beating him but died first, he started panicing as I was whooping him. I closed my DS instead of shutting it off, and apparently the single player game was transferred with the DS Download Play, so I can play Geometry Wars until I turn my DS off.
