Is it a good thing?

Yes, I think it would help a lot to weed out criminals know where they are, etc

Hell, no I want my privacy and don't want them to know where I am, it's my business and the benefits are definitely outweighed

Electronic tagging

Post by Shrykull »

Are they doing it already? I saw in ad in the paper the other day saying about some dogs for adoption- they have been tagged. I wonder if that just meant that they have thier licence on thier collar or something. I saw this movie made not too long ago about a guy under house arrest who had to wear an ankle, I guess if they had to tag him they would instead of that. There are definite benefits, one of my teachers was saying "Hey imagine that, the government would know where you are, and there'd be no moredrugdealers," But I think they wouldn't stop there and that's the really scary part about it, that they could do other things and restrict your movement, etc, that it would give them a lot more power than they have to always know where you are, etc. I saw this movie called fortress that's about 10 years old about the prison of the future, where as a disciplinary measure they place something electronic in your intestine where if they have a problem with you they can cause severe pain, they call it "intestination" And also their machines could monitor your dreams and thoughts. Just imagine that your having a wet dream with the most beautiful woman in the world and she says in the Warden's voice "This is unauthorized thought process" and you get intestinated.

is that for criminals only? i´ve heard of these house arrest ankle thingies a couple of years ago. i dont know if it was successful, but i cant see an ethical problem with it. ít´s not worse for the arrested person than being in prison.
if you want to equip everybody with such a device which can be activated whenever the officials want to, well that would be a problem. i wouldnt want anybody to be able to control my steps as long as i havent done anythign wrong.

Arguments like this tend to be fought over absolutes, when it's really situation-dependent. We feel that the penalties outweigh the benefits of some hypothetical scheme like universal location tracking because of the way our society is right now.

Suppose kids were being kidnapped and tortured to death at the rate of 100 every day. Would people still oppose this idea, assuming it were feasible? I doubt it. The benefit/penalty ratio would favour it.

Would it be acceptable for all humans to have some sort of monitoring device implanted at birth that recorded to a local drive things like location and video of what the person sees? For instance, if you could implant two small video chips in the persons eyes to record what they see, but only to a local implant (say, a super dense drive implanted in a bone) would it be acceptable? Assuming that the only way to access the drive is by court order and if the person is convicted of a violent crime..?

my opinion is that if your doing nothing wrong then what have you to hide? The only ppl who scream about being watched are the ppl with guilty consiences.

Or the people who just want privacy. Would you want a camera to follow you inside your house and watch you while you eat, shit, and sleep, for example? Different people have different levels of tolerance for invasions of privacy, so society has to draw a line somewhere.

And nobody is completly innocent before the law, we've all broken it at some point or other. Or of course their are other issues, similar I feel to Internet Voting, it cannot be 100% secure from outside interferance, this being the case, it cannot be completly secure from unauthorised people viewing what you do, thats right that snot nosed kid down the street could know what intimate details of your private life...

Then there are other issues, how would this be paid for, who monitor's it, is it likely that the overnment can afford this, or will they have to parcel it out to an outside agency to fund it, Busisness would want some sor of profit back. (Think about how much this would cost, and we know that no one would accept a tax hike to pay for the government to invade your privacy, that means the funding has to come from else where...

In the end it all comes down to freedom, and such a scheme invades that freedom, the benefits are out weighed by the losses or the potential losses.

With the way things are right now I see no reason at all for tagging people with chips. Sure the cops can now know where the neighbourhood pedophile is but what good is that going to do? The know where he is but they have no way of knowing what he's doing, it could be used to make sure he stays away from schools but that's about it. It can't whether he's sleeping in his room or molesting a kid in there.

As for putting chips in citizens, forget it. No one needs to know where I am and no one has a right to know either. Where I go during the day is my business, no one else's. There are those who say "if you're not doing anything wrong why do you object?", well, fine, they can get themselves chipped for all I care as long as they don't force me to do so. I want what little privacy I have left, simple as that.

I hope you are joking I really do.

It is an absurd Idea. Banks has yet to explain how the fuck a drone can stop a GOU killing whoever it likes. Also it would result in absoloute chaos. Everyone has one free fucking murder. It is not a viable option. It is total stupidity.
