Tractor beams to hold it in, and shields to keep it from shooting up the cargo bay would be required. Otherwise, it'll probably try to either ram the bay, or take out what's holding it.

Capturing any will be a phenomenally hard feat. How will you stun it as opposed to killing it, precisely?

Shielding a cargo bay against a creature that possess a threat to a shielded warship is easier said than done. I'm not saying that any capture attempt is automatically doomed to fail, but its not going to be easy.

I really don't think a single frigate possess a threat to a shielded warship, even one with only a few points of investment. These ships are, pointwise, orders of magnitude weaker.

Yeah, they're weak compared to battlecruisers. How do you subdue one without killing one? A frigate is no match for a battleship in direct combat, but if its firing it main weapons inside the battleship, then its going to gut it.

Their weakness is not because of weapons but other factors. Their weapons are perfectly fine, if weak and esoteric, or at least this is my understanding. As long as you go for kills you manage the 10k to 1 kill ratio, but do something stupid and your just gonna get swamped and killed, and you can't afford to lose singular ships like he can.

I don't think I ever suggested putting one inside your space cruisers. Just wrangle one up with tractor beams :D

People have explicitly mentioned putting it in the cargo bay. I'm not saying it can be done, I'm just saying they're dangerous and they aren't easy to handle.

Just wanted you guys to know that the time I had interent access is passing tonight. Basically I came, I saw, I found nothing worth posting about since my corner of space is quiet. Until August 3rd, should it not be quiet I remind everyone Beowulf has command of my forces should he need them.

In other news, while you guys slave away in front of your personal computers I'll be seeing the tallest waterfall in the world. :D

It should be noted that starting a major ruckus and not resolving it in a timely fashion usually results in someone else resolving it so the game can continue.

Nephtys should contact the mods to let us know what is going on. A week isn't a huge amount of time for a general pause due to real life concerns, but it is in everyone's best interests to keep such pauses to a minimum.

Call hits? Well, I thought I was taking some pretty big beating, and trying to go for some of those ships I was diving for. Ho-key, I think it's time we all resolve the damage and such. Now how is that done?

In general, you discuss how much firepower each side is pouring out at what targets, and each side determines what would be fair losses. If those sides can't come to mutually satisfactory decisions, then mods get involved to arbitrate.

Well. The enemy is pouring it mostly on my battleship sized ships, all like.. 10,000 of them. And I'm going to be doing likewise largely, with suicide ships going for stuff that's cruiser or above, small stuff like fighters trying for the pickets that are directly in the way only. Probably won't take much down, but suicidal determination is going to be at work.

My forces are going to try and warp-out at 75% losses.

Well, the first round of fire has llanded... this would be a good time to post something like, "so many thousand ships die, and my own force hits the Logosian picket line" or something roughly along that line. At this point, considering your firepower and the numerical disparity, losses amongst the Sol forces won't be more than maybe some escorts knocked out by long-range fire.

Also, Since Nephty's PMed me about this, I'm Tractor capturing a
Intact ramming destroyer-carrier, no fighters onboard, engine and weapons largely gone. Powerplant is damaged, control system mostly intact. I'll probably simapost, but this is for the public STGOD record

I'm not sure how the mods feel this fight is going to play out, but I think you're going to have to wade into the thick of the fight if you want to grab one of these alien beasties, risking friendly fire from other nations trying to kill as many of these crazy things as possible. Given the points, I don't think they're going to last long while charging.

Probable absence notice:

On Sunday, the 29th of July, I vanish until the 24th of August. There's a decent possibility of internet access for the first two weeks, but they're moving us into tents after that, and that doesn't bode well for technology usage at all.

Basically, if I have access, I'll let everyone know, but if you don't hear from me, just assume that I've been eaten by a Grue, and am proceeding slowly through its digestive system for four weeks.

Edit: As you can tell by my continued participation, my worst fears were groundless. I should have access in the evenings until the ninth.

There is always an ebb and flow. Summer has it more often than other times because people, you know, go on vacation.

We'll pretty much assume this battle's over, I take it? With some say... 20% of my units remaining. I dunno what kind of losses would be appropriate for the Sol groups, since not all are necessarilly deeply involved in such a mass engagement. I figure (with mods permission), that the two mainly targetted groups suffered maybe a capital or two out of commission for extensive repairs, maybe a cruiser or two sunk, and some handful of destroyers gone per group?

Something ~100 points per participant 'knocked out for a while' or totally trashed with Shinn, Thirdfain and oh.. whoever was playing the Americans? Would that be reasonable?

As a nontargeted but involved group I was thinking of losing a pair of Talons (destroyers) and heavy damage to a Mantincore (heavy cruiser). Sound reasonable?
