[Vote] Dennis Toy Runoff Vote.
Now that Dennis Toy has been declared guilty by an approximately 90% margin (with abstentations factored toward quorum but not toward percentage of guilty/not guilty votes) or more than 80% by board software, we have to decide his punishment.
There are two options which were proposed under the integrated poll, a two-month temp ban and a perm ban. Those are the options here. The third option in this poll is to abstain, as per custom.

Can the faux-macho nitwit.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.

Temp-ban. Used to be protocol to do the temp before the perm, and I think there's good reason for it.

Pain, or damage, don't end the world, or despair, or fuckin' beatin's. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, ya got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man ... and give some back.

I don't see why that's any reason to deny him the usual procedure of a temp ban. The whole point is that it's a taste of a permaban to see if the behaviour changes after the temp ban.Spyder wrote:Voted, he'd already have a temp-ban by now if it wasn't for a stroke of luck in April.

I am quite weary of Dennis Toy's consistent disregard for board posting protocol, but I do not think that his infractions demand a permanent ban at this time. Still, his behavior requires a response, and I think that a temporary ban would be an adequate punishment, for now, at least.

Where is this procedure to be clarified in the rules, exactly? I can recall numerous times when it was actually said that perm bans are the norm and temp bans a rare exception, but maybe I misunderstood what the admins were saying about that back in the day. I'll add that I'm actually in favour of mercy and progressively more forceful punishments--I'm against banning for first-time DR violations--but Toy's already been titled and he's an utterly worthless non-contributor to the board.

I'll search for exact quotes in the mod forum if you really need official clarification, but unless Mike had deemed the poster in question as extraordinarily offensive, the normal procedure as long as I've been a mod has been a temp ban before a permanent one. Temp bans exist as the last step before a pemanent ban, and as Dennis Toy is nothing special, I see no reason to jump the gun with banning him full-stop now.The Duchess of Zeon wrote:Where is this procedure to be clarified in the rules, exactly? Who will cast the tie vote should it come to that?

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

I will formally request a change of my vote to read temp ban from perm ban if there is a tie--or if a permban is only leading by one vote--on the grounds that mercy should always take precedence over harshness.Coyote wrote:Done.
