I saw four Wiis at a Wal-Mart and one at a Target a couple days ago.

Before that, I'd only ever seen one by itself at a different Wal-Mart a couple months ago.

Eight months after launch and people still have to line up early to get them.

Vympel wrote:There's still Wii shortages in the states? Weird - no such shortages in Australia that I can find. I don't think the Aussie market is really that interested in the Wii, I suppose. :?
I was talking to the EB guys when I returned my 360, and they were saying the Wii demand remains higher than 360 and PS3 combined. AU must have been allocated too many units: it's a stunningly small market here, and we didn't get any of the nunchuk/remote shortages the US had.

Listening to their launch-event stories was pretty funny. :)

DP speaks the truth about batteries: they don't seem to go into suspend very efficiently, so if you leave them aside for a while they'll go flat anyway.

There were shortages in Australia for about 4 or so months after launch if what I heard from relatives attempts at getting some were correct.

Not interested? According to pretty much everyone in the industry I've talked to, the only reason that the Wii doesn't have more shelf space is because there's not enough games out yet to fill that space. It's significantly outselling all other home consoles. If Wii's are still on the shelves, it's mainly because we're a much smaller market, and all the core rapid adopter users have already picked theirs up, something yet to happen in the other major markets. There's still fairly steady sales to new gamer demographics, and likely will be a pick up in sales to some other market segments following the first price drop, whenever that happens.

Oh, I'll note that I got a Nyko charging station. Keeps the Wiimotes charged without any problems. It's a one station per two remote thing though.

I had some of my Wiimotes sitting idle in a drawer for a couple of months, and when I went to use them, the batteries in them were dead. So it's probably a good idea to take batteries out of the remotes if you're going to be leaving them alone for an extended period of time.
If something bumps the buttons at all they turn on and start searching for a Wii. I put them in a backpack for a day and they kept bumping each other and all the batteries were wasted.

Vympel, where I live (Northwest US) I can't find Wii's anywhere. No one has them in stock.

Nyko rules.

Check this thing out. The Wii Party Station. Greatest idea ever.

I just got a Wii too. David played with one at a friend's house and now he wants one for his birthday. It comes with Wii Sports, and I got it with Wii Play. I suppose I'll probably get WarioWare too, but that leaves me without a killing game. Every console needs a good killing game.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is probably the best game for the system right now, imho. It's an action/adventure game that took me over 50 hours to complete, and you defeat enemies by swinging your sword with the Wii remote, although it doesn't mirror your swings.

Metroid Prime 3 is also coming out soon, which is an FPS/adventure, and Prime 1 was among the hardest games of the previous console generation.

Both rated T, iirc.

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition is awesome fun.

I haven't played it personally, but the GC game was a thing of beauty and I've yet to encounter anyone who hates the new controls.

The plot and dialogue is the most awesomely campy B-horror fare.

Would it creep out an 8 year old kid?

Your kids liked Aliens, didn't they?

I would probably say no, though.

The death animations are some of the most brutal things I've ever seen in a game...

Pretty much all the deaths you can suffer:

I would say yes.

Plus the game (like the series as a whole) is quite gory.

I would agree with Spanky: I've heard it's a very good game, but I would never, ever recommend it for an 8-year old.

I thought the Godfather game was pretty good violence-wise. The throttling action is simply awesome. It looks like poo and is just GTA+gangsters, so your mileage my vary, but I liked it.

I'm sorry but that looks awful, putting £30 worth of Wiimote into something that drunk people with greasy hands are going to be trying to put their beer cans in.
