Spock is cast; will be played by Nimoy and Zachary Quinto

Post by Jon »

So it looks like Quinto of Heroes fame will be playing the young spock, while Nimoy will somehow be reprising his role too. This is very interesting, does this mean the film will fit into existing continuity and canon afterall? (after rumours of a reboot etc) What does it say about the story, flashback?

Young Kirk hasn't been cast yet, but apparently they're looking for ways to get Shatner in as Kirk too at some point.

Check out the new teaser poster, original font;

I loved Quinto in Heroes. He has the intensity to be a very convincing Spock. This movie has promise, especially after Nimoy's blessing.

Cool. It's too bad they didn't go for Brody, but he'll do.

I think this good turn out to be good. Now that B&B are out of the picture, then perhaps new creative forces can make at least an entertaining Star Trek movie.

The CM link

Robbie...Williams?

:wtf:

He's got the looks, the bravado and the womanizing, so he should be perfect...but...Robbie Williams?

ETA: the more I think about it, the more it makes sense, in a...weird way. The big problem here is that he has virtually no acting experience, then again, he'd just be playing himself. This will be interesting, if true.

Indeed, unless they're going to make nuKirk look like a heroin junkie.

Aren't all of those tattoos going to get in the way of shirtless Kirk-fu?

So, anyone else think they're going to take a massive dump on continuity (Like Enterprise did)?

Will Spock wear a yellow shirt, bark out orders, and smile?

Will the Enterprise have those monitors on flexi-cords sticking out of the consoles?

THe movie can't possibly be a huge event. It would be absolutely WRONG to have young Kirk save the galaxy as soon as he's out of the gate. Young Kirk should be a blowhard who screws up more than he succeeds, and wins a Kirk-like phyrric victory at the end.

They did say that this project was for better or for worse, a reboot.

So yeah, Spock could very well be wearing a yellow shirt, barking orders, smiling, Catholic, drunk on vodka all the time and is a great big Britney Spears fan.

But let's see what JJ Abrams brings to the table in the next year or so.

Uh, you know that he did all these things in the series premier, The Cage, right? And they established the Cage as a part of canon in that two part episode with Spock's court martial. :P

Star Trek continuity is so fucked anyway, I'm still hoping for a total reboot.

As long as they get the characters right, I don't give two shits if they reboot Trek. I wouldn't even mind if they'd turn it into a buddy comedy.

From what i read, it appears that Nimoy will be playing Spock as well as the new guy. I guess the scene will be Kirk and Spock in retirement or some situation which requires them to use the film as a flash back to younger days or to a similar situation. I doubt Nimoy would get involved if it was a complete screw up of accepted canon

Remember that Nimoy pulled out of directing Generations because he thought the script was crap; I don't think he's the sort of guy who would do something like this just for the paycheck.

Tomboy Uhura...well, it's close enough to her character. At least they're not doing pointless gender reversals.

And Kirk, great physical condition?

African-American? I thought Uhura was just, you know, plain old African.
