Help needed to remedy DVD read speed Problem in Boot Camp

Post by Fingolfin_Noldor »

I have a problem with running WinXP on my Macbook Pro in which the read speeds of the DVD drive is so slow that I can't watch movie DVDs without a lot of jerkiness. The problem does not appear in Mac OS X and I have been wondering if it is to do with the data transfer rate problems I have heard of.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Thanks.

Set you the controller the DVD drive is set to use DMA mode.

In proper English, go to Hardware options, select the IDE channel the drive is on, right click and select properties. There should be an option to switch modes to DMA.

I have tried that. Here's the screen shot: http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb2/ ... /error.jpg

I have tried to force one of the primary channels to go DMA, but despite having restarted the computer etc. it refuses to switch from PIO to DMA.

EDIT: I went digging online for a solution to force it to switch to DMA and I found it. Apparently the trick is to uninstall the channel in question and then XP will reinstall the whole lot upon restart.

Thanks anyhow.
