I've had fucking moron English and math teacher after fucking moron English and math teacher. In the last four years I'm certain none of my teachers for those subjects could be judged mentally competent to do there job or stand trial.

As it is three of them got shifted to administrative work, tenure prevents them from being fired of course, the semester after I had them.

At least my High School History teacher was a hoot! His class was the most fun of all of mine in my junior year. HISTORY of all things! He'd do all sorts of crazy things to keep us entertained, and best of all, the guy was a total Fruit Cake! He was as gay as a picnic basket!!! The best part about it was that the Football players always hung around him all the time, so he had a nice harem of big buff boys, and all I had to do to get a free peep show was find the History teacher! He was loved by the whole school too. I remember once when the jocks in the Senior class got him a gift which he opened at a pep rally. It went something like this:
Pep Rally: $0
Trip to Lingerie Store: Dunno but I'm ballparking $20
Gift Box: $3
Seeing your Gay History Teacher Get a Red G-String IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE FUCKING SCHOOL!!!!!: Priceless!!

Don't you just love it when that happens? Or when you spend all of high school waiting to get this one great teacher who everyone loves and is really good, and they leave the semester before you were supposed to get them.

On another note i loved my English teacher to bits. He ran the school library and he let us chose what books he ordered in. Thanks to him i got the Heir to the Empire trillogy as they came out and when i left school he let all the readers in his class help ourselves to the books we wanted.

No. Not to take away from the purpose of your thread or anything, but I constantly work my ass off (read: most days I spend over 12 hours at school, usually closer to 15) for little money and practically no recognition save that of the few students who have that little light bulb appear over their heads from time to time.

I love teaching so much, I would pay to do it, instead of getting paid to do it, and I tend to see red when people talk about teachers negatively. Herr Cole, my german teacher is the best teacher I have ever had.

personality:

44 year old mormon(jack mormon, evolutionist)
flyswatter happy(gets into flyswatter duels)

He is so...amusing, he makes learning german fun, he immerses us in the german culture, telling us stories about the 6 years he spent there. Not only that, but he discusses politics, and current events with us.

We also have all-german marathons, full week nothing but german, he makes fun of those that speak english MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I have always given teachers the recognition they deserve. There was no "getting through" needed.

*smiles* Hell Herr cole has 6 kids and coaches soccer. He has to run a paper route at 4 am just to support his family. And he works a 12-14 hour day at school.

Hey you have to put up with freaks like me 5 days a week for at least 5 hours a day, not to mention all the other stuff you do

My former Maths teacher, Mr Deveroux, was a good teacher- he was strict and he wouldn't tolerate excessive talking out of turn, but after successive teachers had failed to keep some of my classmates under control, he managed to gain the respect of the class and got us to do the work. He did mellow out (he had no choice, not when we were always making fun of his horrible ties)

I didn't intend this as a "teachers suck" thread. It's just that I had a few that were cruel and ignorant. And was curious if anyone else had similar experiences.

At my Senior school I was in a unique position. My Parents where teachers there... (Well my dad was full time, my mum was a supply teacher, although thats a little off, she spent a year filling in.) My opinions of my teacher's varied their where the Incrediable teacher's and the teacher's that sucked.

For example My History teacher for all five years. (coincidence really, the one year I got a different teacher, he fell ill and we got her back.) Was one of my all time favourite teacher's the only problem was she was so good that I took History at A-Level. Whats the problem you ask, A-Level History was dull. (It Covered no Wars for a start, yes History is about more than Wars, but in the two years we could have covered one surely!) Also he wasn't as good a teacher, or the Sylubus wasn't as good. For GCSE History our teacher would Challange us, arrange debates around the issues of the time, for example was it right for America to drop the A-Bomb on Japan. Probably once everly month or so we'd have a debate, and the week before would be spent gathering data for the Debate. Or If no debate that month, (If for example the topic isn't really suitable for debate, such as Trench warfare.) Then Videos, Once we even watch Blackadder goes forth, you know the last eppisode in the series. Of course we watched other Videos, more historically accurate, but she always felt the bit where Baldrick asks How the war started was moving. And she was right.

My english teacher was just as good. (I had the same English Teacher for 4 out of the five years. No coincidence English was my Dad's department, and he always tried to avoid teaching his Children as you can imagine.) Again we had debates, or did Drama, which was always more freform stuff than follow a Play through. (Drama stopped when we got to tenth year and started our GCSE work of course.) And again she challanged us to think about our values, to study who we where and what we believed in. She helped us to grow. But tha is not the main reason I admired her as a teacher, the main reason was the Libary, she had found the Libary as a dumb, never used, nebver cared for and full of crap. And turned it into something special, she let us order the books we wanted to read, based on the idea that there was no point buying a lot of books no-one read. By the time I left their was an entire Book Shelf of my books, that I'm informed are still read to this day. (Oh for any 40Kers My school has the Origianl Inqusitior series, you know Harliequin etc. In fact it has the original GW books

)

My PE teacher was great as well. He was very competative yes, everything was a competition to him. (My dad I where in Competition with him and his Son over who who could finish Tomb Raider first....) But no despite this what mattered more to him was that you tried. He gave more respect and ime to those who Tried their hardest, than those who didn't no matter how good those who didn't try where. It made PE enjoyable for someonelike me who was useless at all Sports except Cross Country.

There where more good teachers but I think I've said enough. As for why it was a strange situation to have my Dad a Teacher thee, I knew what the Teacher's where like outside of the class room, and it meshed with my opinion of them as teacher's. The good teacher's are the ones who arn't chasing the next promotion who maybe at most want a Head of Department job, where they can influance the style of the department but where teaching is still main thing they do. Often the bad ones are chasing the next promotion. This dosn't mean a head can't be good and a Department head a bastard, but as a general pattern, at least at my senior school it held up...
