Enemy Engaged 2
Enemy Engaged 2 has just been released. I was looking forward to it, but it is apparently just a graphical overhaul of Commanche Hokum. Thats not a bad thing as such, because Commanche Hokum was awesome.
The forum for the game at SimHQ is brimming with people moaning about it, but I know how fickle flight sim communities can be. I have the originals still, and you can improve the games through mods released by the community. The only problem is that the mods are installed by auto-updater, with no real descrition as to what each ones does (do you want alternate explosions A or B? Do you want to install GrizzzlyBears alternate Apache skin? etc...) and though some of the mods are good, alot of them look like ass.
So anybody tired it? I have a new Saitek X52 which desperately needs a good attack chopper sim to go with it. Any other suggestions for alternative chopper sims?

Does it have the Mi-28N and AH-64 as well? I loved the interoperability of Apache Havoc and Commanche Hokum.

Have you actually played EECH 2? I've already seen plenty of "lol don't buy it" comments but I want to know why people are saying that.Acidburns wrote:I wouldn't waste my money on EECH 2.
Wait for Lock-On: Blackshark expansion or Whirlwinds of Vietnam.
And I am looking forward to that to those sims, but both appear to have totally dropped off the radar. The official site for Whirlwinds of Vietnam says it will be out 'Q1 2007' and Blacksharks official site just says a nebulous '2007'. Blackshark looks fantastic, but it seems a waste to me that you can only fly one chopper when many of the choppers they've already modelled in great detail are desperate for inclusion in a modern sim (the Hind for starters).
Unfortunately no, which is annoying.Vympel wrote:Does it have the Mi-28N and AH-64 as well? I loved the interoperability of Apache Havoc and Commanche Hokum.

I went to the webpage - the intro is total shite. I really wish they wouldn't bother with that, it's such a waste of time. EE didn't have such a thing, IIRC.
Heck - they even got the Ataka completely wrong (it doesn't have a rocket motor at the tail. It has them canted out further up, they spin the missile towards the target. Looks much cooler).
EDIT: and looking at the screenshots, the Mi-28N as well. They're going off the original prototype, which is nowhere near as well-finished (in terms of airframe shape) as the series produced version. The series production standard Mi-28N has no big-ass box like protrusion sticking out of one side of the fuselage.
Same with the Ka-52 as well. It's sensor fit is wrong.

Basically, EE2 is just EE1 with slightly updated graphics, nothing else is new. I have EE1, and see no need to purchase a new game when the mod community graphic packs seem just as good as EE2, besides a few shader upgrades.
PC Gamer UK Aug 2007 Enemy Engaged 2 review:
It's
> Very Big
> Full of War
> About Helicopters
It's not
> Exciting
> Full of Action
> Much of a sequel
"Cockpit textures and pilot models, for example, have evolved little in seven years.... Barring a little bump mapping and a few more trees, the world is the same too."
"Where EE1 felt up-to-date and gripping, this is old and lacking sophistication."

Definitely not wasting my time on that then.

What I’d like to know is if all the ground forces will actually move significant distances now, assuming that you blast a path for them, to keep the war going at full intensity. In enemy engaged, no matter how much I cheated to kill EVERYTHING over a wide radius, the ground units would never move more then one intersection ahead, and even then it was rare they moved at all.
"This cult of special forces is as sensible as to form a Royal Corps of Tree Climbers and say that no soldier who does not wear its green hat with a bunch of oak leaves stuck in it should be expected to climb a tree"

With the SimHQ review
Or with a more mainstream review from Gamespot?
What a travesty - a full game being released that's literally worse than a demo. 10 missions? Only? What are they insane?!
Oh well, I didn't want to play a game about UH-1s in Vietnam anyway. ZZZZZZ. AH-1s, sure.
I wish they'd remake HIND.
