You know, I had the decency to stop making those crappy so-called jokes back in '04 or so. I was going to focus my annoyance on Laguna for his misdeeds, but you just jumped to the top of the list there. Prepare for ineffectual, overly subtle bullshit that shall amount to basically nothing in the long run good sir, and may the Flying Spaghetti Monster have mercy on your soul.

It still would be nice of you to react to my demands regarding this ship in space issued in the game thread...

A shame. Puns are a potent power source for both drives and weapons, but they are more volatile than antimatter.

I have a nasty habit of fiddling about with the exact phrasing of posts for hours after I've made them. I don't change anything significant of course, usually just the adjectives and sentence structure.

Phase 2 of that operation with the cloaked ships coming up as soon as Thirdfain's had a chance to blow up that crippled cruiser and (presumably) step up his anti-cloak patrols and/or send ships to search for survivors on the destroyed outposts.

OK, Dr. House- I'm going to apprehend this guy and send him back to the Uche, and with my cruiser over Africa, at the behest of the TGA, you aren't gonna be able to stop me. I mean, without opening fire, that is.

Who says I want him? For all my guys know, he's trying to escape justice, and they don't give two flying fucks about him.

He on the other hand is fucking insane.

BTW, pretty much any city on Earth of any importance will have strategic defenses and at least marginal tactical shields- it's really not an option otherwise, when your enemy has hundreds of warships armed with gigaton-range lightspeed weapons in near orbit to you at all hours of the day.

Dude, why wouldn't they put the shields up immediatly when an unauthorized fightercraft sails by? Never mind the fucking Polish heavy cruiser hanging over them the whole time- and relations between the two of us aren't *that* rosy.

I'd think that this would be precisely one of those situations where the shielding would be up when the bird flies. Mod check?

I'm more than willing to change my post if either Redleader or a mod tells me too, but from start to finish the whole encounter took maybe five minutes. The fighter launched from a secret facility and started broadcasting pleas for asylum almost immediately. There was about a minute between his warning of having antimatter and you shooting at him, if that. I was expecting for you to wait for Redleader to have his say in the whole situation before you opened fire, and I will admit that I was perhaps a bit hasty in posting too, but way to contradict yourself. You claim jurisdiction over the orbital points and fire on a TGA craft in TGA space, and then you say that relations aren't rosy and they would be expected to have their shields up? Which is it man? Are you allies or enemies?

EDIT: In retrospect, I called a shot I shouldn't have. I have editted to allow Redleader to respond to just how bad the damage will be. My guys are still pissed though.

Holy fucking antimatter Batman, 64 MT low-altitude airburst.

For reference, Tsar Bomba (the largest nuclear device ever initiated in real history) was somewhere around 50 MT (probably a little over). It created a 4.6km fireball within which everything with instantly vaporised and would have caused third degree burns requiring immediate medical attention at a distance of 100km. The blast wave would smash normal buildings out to 50km and continue to severely damage them beyond that. There was a magnitude 5.2 earthquake and atmospheric focusing caused blast damage up to 1000 km away. Since this is Africa, forest and grassland fires will now be burning over huge areas.

It's also the what, fifth or sixth major nuclear explosion over a city in Africa in the last month. Let's just say that the African burn wards are already pretty full.

Yea, Africa will now cease to be a meaningful centre of commerce, population, and industry.

Actually, I'm not trying to do any political machinations or anything, I'm roleplaying. As I've stated before, the Straltoc have a loyalty based society, so to see their friends get nuked like that was literally a slap in the face to their sense of honour and duty. The captain is a hothead and will be court martialled for this whole affair, but he was operating within the bounds of their psychology.

Plus I was trying to let Redleader respond to this whole affair since it was his idea in the first place for the craft to be stolen.

Right, right... but why didn't they, you know, send troops and relief the first couple of times Africa got nuked? I'm a little confused...

Because our troops are on the other side of the galaxy? We were providing full cooperation with the limited assets on hand, which amounted to one light cruiser and two corvettes set up for diplomatic work. And there has been maybe a week or two in game since Africa started blowing up, so its not like we could have mobilized the forces to actually get there yet considering we are one of the most distant nations. Especially considering the fact that there is a vast gulf of relatively empty space between us and Earth which in the current age will be swarming with pirates, which adds to the logistics nightmare of getting supplies to Africa.

A note on technical terms. When Thirdfain says "EMP" I find it unlikely it means real EMP. First-off an EMP requires an atmosphere, there might have been one present depending on exactly how low the target was, but the writing suggests that there isn't (atmosphere and orbit are kind of mutually exclusive). Second, though, and most important, is the fact that hardening against EMP is pretty easy with modern technology, let alone future tech.

Therefore one concludes that the Poles were using a device colloquially called "EMP" and that functions similar to an EMP against unhardened electronics, but is actually not EMP but rather [technobable] that works using [technobable].

Precisely! I just didn't want to say "Ion Cannons."
