So Darth Krayt is... [Spoilers]
A'Sharad Hett? First off, let me make it clear, I have not read, and have no plans to read the Legacy comics, so I might be missing out on some of the finer points here, but I was curious to see who Krayt was as I was pretty sure it was going to be Jacen up until the Darth Who? competition.
So anyway, Krayt is Hett, a Jedi from the Clone Wars era, he will have outlived Luke, Leia, Ben, Jacen, Jaina, Allana, Kyp, etc. Does this seem completely fucking retarded to anyone else? This guy will have seen first hand at least two other Sith Lords try and fail at the whole only-I-can-bring-peace-and-order-to-the-galaxy bullshit, yet he's giving it a shot anyway? For a start, to have that angle crop up again, it's getting a bit repetitive, but it's a Sith thing I guess. But to have a character who will have seen it done and fail at least twice try it is just dumb. He knows it won't last, either a Skywalker will kill him, or [insert how Jacen is stopped, most likely by Ben I'd think, here].
So, anyone else have any thoughts, am I missing something, or is it just simply "Oh, I see a hurt/corrupt/war torn galaxy, I'd better try and fix it by being evil, starting another war and killing a lot of people!" All over again?

The entire Legacy plotline in retarted.
End of story.
I mean I stuck by the SW EU through thick and thin. I got increasingly annoyed with the NJO books, though there were a few solid stories here and there that helped.
After the first Dark Nest book I just gave up. I brought the next 2 simply because I have to have all parts of a 3 book series once I start; I read them once then never touched them again.
More and more I am bloody glad I completely gave up on the SW EU.

I hear you, I read Betrayal and thought it was pretty shit, then borrowed Pounder's copies of the Dark Nest trilogy and nearly wept reading those, I then made the mistake of buying Bloodlines and Tempest. Last EU books I'll ever buy.

Actually, I was bashing the series after the first few issues, BUT I'm starting to like it more. Has Kryat/Hett been identified as human?
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Well, yea. We've known Hett was human at least since Star Wars Republic 59: Enemy Lines in 2003, that's when his face was first shown, although it may have been revealed he was human anywhere between then and Star Wars Republic 7: Outlander in 1999 when he debuted, I'm not sure, I haven't read them. but hasn't it been established that Krayt was using some kind unnatural ways to extend his life (I'm just glad he didn't end up as Revan (a Jedi/Sith who lived 4000 years before the movies)), I just hope they tie it up with the book series in a (semi-)reasonble way and Hett has always been at least part human (his father was a human).

He spent a lot of time in stasis (how he kept control of his Sith-order while doing that is another question).
Personally I would have preferred a new face or a clone or force-doppelganger of Roan Fel (what means, that the "good" emperor is secretly pulling the strings), but just because they made Krayt someone from the PT-era doesn't make the Legacy-comics bad for me.

BWAHAHAHAHAH!
As if the series couldn't get any more LAME. Seriously, why does everyone in the EU have to piss or shit over the idea that the Jedi were wiped the fuck out? Are they trying to cheapen the role of Luke in the OT? Are they incapable of writing for a new character? My guess is that it is all of the above.
A'Sharad Hett was a shitty idea for a character and a shitty character to boot in the CW clomics. They might as well had finished ejaculating after masturbating out the character of Krayt and made him Quinlan fucking Vos.

Either way, I read this off a rack in Border's and this does make me laugh. The series is eh(Better then emo Jacen trying to pass off he's a Sith Lawd), but really, why a near no named yaboo that would've been Anakin's first and most relished target after Obi Wan? So you can hark back to Clone War comics?!

Well at least they aren't resurrecting other CW-Era Jedi, I mean that would be quite lame wouldnt it?
Oh never mind, they brought back K'Kruhk too, This supports the Karen Traviss-esque claim that Order 66 was nothing more than a series of simple arrests and not many deaths outside of the Jedi Council. I mean seriously....goddammit.

Before any more posts, please do not mix SW:Legacy with Legacy of the Force. One is a comic taking place in 137 ABY, the other is a book series in 40 ABY. We're talking of SW:Legacy, here.
This was actually a reveal many predicted accurately back when the comic started (same facial tattoos as Hett, the Krayt name etc.). Apparently, even the authors were saying it's not the "who" that's going to be the big reveal, it's the "why". Unfortunately, Dark Horse spammed the shit out of issue 15 with their "SEE WHO DARTH KRAYT IS!!!11" hype, which gave people the impression it was going to be mindblowing.
Not sure how Krayt managed to maintain loyalty with his keepers, but the Darth Wyyrlok name went from parent to child for at least three generations, with a fourth having begun training, according to the present holder of the name. If he's representative of the "physician Sith" that the new order has, then they must be the most caring Sith I've ever seen. :o
Krayt does seem to gain loyalty from his followers by having them join the cult from their infancy, like a dark parallell to the old Jedi Order. Darth Nihl is an exception, since he was an adult before joining the order (and is subsequently barred from finding out certain secrets of Krayt's).

Well, stasis seems a very "ordinary" sci-fi way of doing it, and there's already a canon precedent with SW characters taking steps to expand their lives (Duke Teta living past 300 thanks to medical treatments and organ transplants.)using some kind unnatural ways to extend his life

No Shit Sherlock. So are we, Ghost Rider only mentions the novel series one bit, mentioning how it is more lame than the comics.VT-16 wrote:Before any more posts, please do not mix SW:Legacy with Legacy of the Force. Because people who mindlessly buy anything with Star Wars on it couldn't bring themselves to miss out of course. Hence the halfway decent sales numbers for the Jedi Academy Trilogy.Unfortunately, Dark Horse spammed the shit out of issue 15 with their "SEE WHO DARTH KRAYT IS!!!11" hype, which gave people the impression it was going to be mindblowing.

It's strange that it's so hard to accept some Jedi survivng the Order and the subsequent Purge. Granted, it's not like that kind of thing is actually supported by any of the movies.

We've known Hett survived the Purge as far back as the release of The New Essential Chronology.
And there's no reason why Hett would be Anakin's "first target after Obi-Wan".
He only met the Jedi once, and after surviving Order 66, Hett returned to Tatooine (a planet Vader would never set foot on) and melted into the general Tusken population.

Didn't Quinlan Vos, the Lamest Comic Character Ever, survive the purge? Was this in between turning to the Dark Side for an hour or so? I'm sure his horde of women with enormous fake breasts were involved.
Ah, I love reading *about* the EU. Reading the EU *itself* would be like ... funding terrorists or something.

Yeah, maybe read the series, folks, before pissing and moaning...?
RE: Quinlan: For awhile I wasn't very enamored of the character-- I suppose I bought into the "Quinlan sux !!" whining, but I've recently gone back and read his whole story and I don't see any validity for the common complaints.
He should've died, yes, and that's my biggest (and pretty much only) disappointment with Ostrander's works, but it's been hinted that we have none other than George Lucas to thank for that.

I do...so your retort to this will be? I mean seriously it's eh at best, and Ostrander has shown to be better. I've in fact read most if not all of Ostrander's SW works and really, it's not his best stuff by a long shot.000 wrote:Yeah, maybe read the series, folks, before pissing and moaning...?

Oh wait...
One of the most powerful lines in Ep VI, but it doesn't have the same meaning thanks to the EU. In the films you see all of two Jedi, and that's it, both of them actually die. Spare me the bullshit, and the bullshit writing that has kept many of these "hidden" Jedi until a writer's erection for connecting the prequel EU to the after-Endor EU creates yet another uninteresting lame scenario that reeks of creative bankruptcy.
Why should they spend time and/or money if the storyline does not appeal to them? Should we buy every comic that comes out just to give it a chance just because it has "Star Wars" labeled on it?000 wrote:That wasn't at you-- there are others in the thread who admit they haven't.
And I don't care what anyone says, the idea of an edgy Jedi who "walks the shadows" and is written more for a Mountain Dew commercial than Star Wars is not entertaining. Pair up Mr. Edgy Jedi with Blue half naked Twi'lek Fanservice-lite and you've got a best seller!

Sorry, this is why you like this stuff. You have no standards. I've read much of QV's stuff too, and it's utterly atrocious wank. It's Wolverine-level stupid. It's not just whining: the very existence of the character is lowest common denominator fodder. It's Star Wars Pulp Fiction, but with extra emo.000 wrote:Yeah, maybe read the series, folks, before pissing and moaning...?

And reading anything with 'Star Wars' on the cover is *not* a badge of honour. I employ discrimination with regard to my money and time: having read SW comics, I'm not going to read others just because 'zomg you can't comment until you've read them'.
It scares me that Fanboy's summary is so apt. Emo Jedi Guy and Naked Twi'lek chick. Get in some more family angst, maybe turn to the darkside and come back a couple times... done. One character that sucks, but 000 thinks is good.
