STGOD: A Dead Art?
Moderator: Thanas
On a completely unrelated note, I have an idea for consistency's sake.
How about we all include a "cast of characters" for prominent people you're using to roleplay your faction's face to the other players? It would also provide a good quick reference to other players, as well as give each player a bit of fun writing biographies.
What do all of you think?

A Dramatis Personae thread? Sure, why not. Had one before.

Okay, then that suggests Yet Another STGOD Thread (Dramatis Personae). After everyone made their official entries into it, the thread would likely fall into page 2 of the G&C forum and beyond, as edits wouldn't bump the thread.
Any further thoughts on this?
We could always put a link to it in the reference thread, where most of the other STGOD threads are listed. I use that sticky quite a bit for the OOB and various other threads.rhoenix wrote:*laughing*Tanasinn wrote:It works for me, though I'll have to start a new post: my original OOB post is full. :p

Sure. I did have a fairly detailed list of my own characters, but unfortunately I lost that when the hard drive on my laptop failed. Though I'll make another attempt to recover that this weekend. I have something like 40 characters in play, though many of them are very minor. There must be several hundred in the whole game.rhoenix wrote:How about we all include a "cast of characters" for prominent people you're using to roleplay your faction's face to the other players? Incidentally have fun with Vice Admiral Thuule. He will be ranting about how it was a conspiracy by the Polish to attack him personally, don't you see, they made him kill those civilians, he had no choice, and of course the King of Bootswellington and the Kitaka and the Kiro and the FEA and the Portugese and the League and the Chamara and the Hegemony and the Vak were all in on it. Most definitely the Vak. Sneaky vacuum tubes.
However if you attempt to wring any genuine information out of him, I imagine his neural nanites will kick in and reduce his brain to homogenous goo. Or if that's not dramatic enough, his head will explode. After all there has to be some way that all these pirate secrets (e.g. the location of Blackmast) have been kept all these decades despite the Polish regularly capturing Pirate ships and personnel.
I think you mean the 'STGOD 2k7: Stickies!' thread, in which case you need to ask SirNitram.rhoenix wrote:Sounds good to me, if Starglider's willing.Noble Ire wrote:We could always put a link to it in the reference thread, where most of the other STGOD threads are listed. Oh, I just noticed:
I'll edit the pirate RP post to reflect that. Firstly there are actually frigates for them to shoot at, and secondly it's only 40 vs 80 points as opposed to the 40 vs lots of points I was expecting, so they have a good chance of taking down a couple of frigates before they die.Thirdfain wrote:Forces Dispatched to Ruda Slaska

The "point system" I was for is the one we have for determining ship sizes. So we know the rough size of ships and fleets.
It was definitely NOT intended as the way YOU want it, with your "empirical system" and all the nuts and bolts.
You don't need structure for a good STGOD, but I guess you'll never be able to learn or understand that in your little world of numbers...

My comment was intended as humorous. Any 'point system' is clearly more empirical than none at all.Dahak wrote:I would very much like it if you didn't put words in my mouth. The "point system" I was for is the one we have for determining ship sizes.
And now you're putting words in my mouth, as I have not proposed any coherent system nor have I offered to supply nuts or bolts. It was definitely NOT intended as the way YOU want it, with your "empirical system" and all the nuts and bolts.
That would be a TGOD. STGOD, TGOD. These are not the same thing. You don't need structure for a good STGOD
Priceless! You know you're actually kind of cute.but I guess you'll never be able to learn or understand that in your little world of numbers...
You have actually been reading the main game thread right? While I can't comment on the quality, I have certainly been providing a generous quantity of description, dialogue and narrative.

And what with your post a few posts back, with your detailed "empirical" battle results? And now you're putting words in my mouth, as I have not proposed any coherent system nor have I offered to supply nuts or bolts. It was definitely NOT intended as the way YOU want it, with your "empirical system" and all the nuts and bolts.
Oh, and those STGODs I took part in the last years, had almost no structure in the way you want or define it, yet were labelled "STGOD". Harping about the name without looking at the content is a bit lame. That would be a TGOD. STGOD, TGOD. These are not the same thing. You don't need structure for a good STGOD
Yes you have. But that doesn't stop you from whining in the discussion thread that you want your little numbers and even start discussing around nonsensical detail maps.Priceless! I did tell you to avert your eyes. I sincerely hope you never become a fan of baseball, I'd hate to see you have a fatal allergic reaction to all the statistics thrown about.
I read them. Most of them had quite a lot of structure. There was an extended and illuminating discussion about this back at the start of the thread (mostly between Thirdfain and Hotfoot), if you've forgotten.Oh, and those STGODs I took part in the last years, had almost no structure in the way you want or define it, yet were labelled "STGOD". Certainly if you can whine about how numbers might be restricting, despite absolutely zero cases of that actually happening to date, I can 'whine' about basic logic and plausibility. Oh no wait, I mentioned times in minutes and distances in light years! Numbers! Run, Dahak, run!But that doesn't stop you from whining in the discussion thread that you want your little numbers and even start discussing around nonsensical detail maps.

And I don't think I'll contribute a dramatis personae for the time being. Robot #1 and Robot #2 don't have that much difference.

Lindy Harlaown and Hayate Yagami. Where have I heard those names before? I wonder...

What do you think one of the influences of my nation was? At least I didn't pull the name of everyone of my ships from anime or related. They're also numbered such that there have been previous classes of a given type of ship. IOW, my ship numbers generally don't start at 1.

Back when my faction was still in its planning stages, I was planning on significantly more conventional names for my ships. Documentation is sketchy, but from what I remember offhand, the Char Aznable class used to be the Sun Yat-sen class, the Ichigo Kurosaki was once the Jose Rizal, and the carrier that would become the Haruhi Suzumiya was to be named Vo Nguyen Giap instead, among other things. Of course, as you know, I went in tongue firmly in cheek when I made the final decision on class names. Perhaps I'll recycle a few names from the developmental period later on.
As for the somewhat anomalous numerical designations, I'm still trying to figure out a reasonable backstory for that.

Level question:
Related to manufacturing/repair/infrastructure of planetary structures as well as ships. Are they separate bonuses, or how do they work - can you just get a racial bonus to repair/infrastructure/manufacturing?
Fluff reason is the Exites, really. As each "individual" is actually a group mind colony of trillions of nanobots, one or several could do with no tools handy what would take a team hours to do. So, I'm trying to see what sort of bonuses I could get from them.
Also, I've been steadily editing the Dramatis Personae. If nobody's noticed, there's now a table of contents. It will be updated in the order that all of you update it. Thank you for those of you who've done so thus far.
