Ken ain't confirmed as Palpatine's grand kid.
Yeah it is. The C-Canon Essential Guide to Characters says so explictly. Nothing wrong with a "while Ken is Triclops' child, Triclops is actually a clone/creation/budding of Palpatine, not a biological child" retcon but, as it stands at the moment, Triclops is the biological son of Palpatine, and Ken is his son.

Oh, pfft. Leland's said more recently that it ain't for certain.
(Of course, I think he said that he "didn't know that anything confirmed Triclops was Palpatine's son" or something along those lines, so he might either have forgotten about the EGtC or be blowing it off. Or placating the anti-GoDV crowd.)

Do people hate the Jedi Prince series for its youth-oriented level of writing and ideas, or for its big revelation about Palpatine's son and grandson?
Because personally, when you connect the idea of Palpy having a kid with this thread, it kind of makes sense. Instead of an umpteenth "hidden Jedi", you get someone related to Palpatine taking up the mantle. An honest-to-goodness flesh and blood heir. At the very least, it's far less ridiculous than the Emperor's force-ghost coming back and possessing some clones.
As for the idea about Palpatine being a father- why not? What makes him so superior and controlled that he wouldn't ever had sex at one point? (Also, Triclops could always have been the result of test tube experiments) Of course, you can always say that his son was the product of a virgin birth. Yes, that'd make perfect sense.

I've no problem with the series in and of itself-- it's silly, but amusingly so and has done more positive than negative overall.
I don't care for Triclops being Palpatine's literal son because of the implication that dark side energies resulted in him being a "mutant," since it's overly silly and doesn't fit with what we now know about the effect of the Dark Side on biology.
I've no problem with him having sired kids, it's just that particular one that I don't like. I'd also think that, as Palpatine's only known offspring, he'd have been mentioned more.

Maybe they can actually address the issue of Ken Palpatine sometime whilst retconing the hell out of the idea. I agree some of the ideas behind the origin are quite stupid. For one thing, Ken is named after his mother, Kendalina. That's horrific beyond all measure. Ken should be short for something, but I'm not sure what would work. Kenzarius? Kennex? Kencer?
On another note, I don't know much about this Hett character at all, but I think it would be infinitely more awesome if he was an actual Tusken Raider Jedi. How wild would that be?

Hett sounds to much like Fett. based on that fact alone I don't like him.Battlehymn Republic wrote:Maybe they can actually address the issue of Ken Palpatine sometime whilst retconing the hell out of the idea. It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

?
or how 'bout Kenner, as a way of paying homage to all the old action figures? And yes, his general story is worse than anything Ed Wood could have come up with if he had written the series. His mother is a Jedi Princess who is a nurse at an insane asylum who gets knocked up after falling in love with an inmate who also happens to be a Sith Lord's three eyed mutant son named Triclops. Soon after birth, Ken is taken away by a mysterious Jedi to a long lost Jedi City located beneath Sith temples and ruins on Yavin 4 (which the Sith never even knew about, despite living there under both Naga Sadow AND Exar Kun) that is still in running order 10000 years after it was abandoned and is run by droids who look like C-3PO and another droid who helps Ken with his homework. The BAD GUYS in the series are a bunch of offshoot Sith priests and Moffs who hold Mofferences aboard thier Moffship and go around bidding everyone else Dark Greetings because that's what BAD GUYS do. I dont know much more because I couldnt make myself read any further, but since the Ken character's ultimate fate remained a complete mystery, it would have been nice to see him finally realize his potential heritage by becoming Darth Krayt and being written by someone who could tell a story that didnt seem like it wass written by drunk squirrels.
Dig out the old DE sourcebook and look up the Sovereign Protectors. Frankly, I'm disappointed that they, like most of DE ended up being so underused. I always figured that the different armor Jax wore was what protectors in training wore until they went ahead and made him an odd man out rather then tying it back in to a preexisting group.havokeff wrote:The whole Imperial Guards with OMG FORCE POTENTIAL is fucking lame. The Emperor would have never allowed a Force user that potentially powerful to either A. LIVE or B. Not be of more use than a pretty guard.

Actually, Carnor Jax's armor in Crimson Empire was that used by the Master Trainer of the Imperial Royal Guard (which also explains Kanos' comment about him being unfit to wear it). As for the lack of Dark Empire material being used elsewhere, you're sort of right. Things and people seen in Dark Empire are rarely seen elsewhere in the EU (except notably for the Eclipse, which was seen in and playable in and Empire at War expansion). But from Dark Empire II and Empire's End, we get more EU appearances (Kam Solusar, Jedi Holocron, Ossus, ect).Ender wrote:Dig out the old DE sourcebook and look up the Sovereign Protectors. And I know I've said this before, but since it is relevant to the topic of this thread, I think Darth Krayt should have turned out to be Kir Kanos (or Ken).
