[Modification] SD.Net SW meets ST

I'd probably get a mobile infrastructure set up ASAP. Not as fancy as a World Devastator, but a ten mile long freighter with very slow hyperdrive (10k-100k speed of light) and the hold filled with industrial equipment would be nice. Mobility means I can move it to the resources, instead of needing to transport the resources to me all the time.
It might even require external mining systems, external shipyard arms, and only be able to process refined ore, but it is a start. First items in the construction queue would be self-replicating factories, and drop them off on a few mineral-rich planets, along with sensors and comm systems to let me know if there are problems.
Now with proper Imperial mining operations, I could trade refined ore to various planets in exchange for food supplies. Of course, that will trigger reactions from their neighbors, wondering where they are getting all the refined materials from, and where all the food is going, so I'll have to use cut-outs.

It's a big galaxy. I'd initially follow Poe's idea of senting out probe droids, maybe a few shuttles and capture a few Ferengi traders and barter some information and tech from them. A universal translator would be helpful. The Ferengi will be under orders that if they betray my presence I will flatten their world and take my substantial business else where.
I'd find a nice nearby backwater world with no population and set up shop. Perhaps dismanteling a ISD or 2 to set up planatary defences and infastructure. Once again with my Ferengi connections get a few industrial replicators to keep my food stores topped up. In the mean time my Commandship and another ISD would begin setting up my hypermatter refinary. The ISD for materials and the Dreadnaught for defence and to keep it away from prying eyes.
Once I'm secure and have the raw materials coming in I'd make my presence known to the Federation. I'm not homicidal I don't want to glass any planets, well no habbitated ones anyway. I will simply make the AQ powers aware of my presence and explain that like the Federation I also have a Prime Directive, so they can forget getting any of my technology, ofcourse with my ferengi connections I can release a few things, droids and the like nothing that can bite me in the ass if used against me. All I want is some limited trade for essentials I can't produce myself and free passage in their space, maybe a free pass for all my people to visit Risa occasioanlly. In return I agree to defend any AQ world thretened by the Borg or any other powerful race that comes knocking.
Ofcourse I fully expect the likes of the Romulans and Klingons to come in weapons arrays blazing. After I destroy a few fleets I expect that even they'll take a hint and leave me alone for my New Empire to grow.

If you wanted it to be interesting the best thing to do would be to have everyone on the board (like the original thread) be transported, but in smaller ships Carracks, dreads, Accs, maybe a VSD or 12, and have one World Devastator for every 300 members. That way we could still more than hold our own against whatever fleet we run into, but nobody can BDZ planets by themselves, at least until the devastators have built up our fleet and industrial base.
If a black-hawk flies over a light show and is not harmed, does that make it immune to lasers?

That is an interesting idea. I stayed with the SSD theme in this thread because it provided a good baseline for answers. However, we'd need a scale to see which members got what ship for their scenario, then.Marko Dash wrote:If you wanted it to be interesting the best thing to do would be to have everyone on the board (like the original thread) be transported, but in smaller ships Carracks, dreads, Accs, maybe a VSD or 12, and have one World Devastator for every 300 members. the problem is that an Ex or worse an Eclipse is far to powerful for this type of scenario, you don't want rouge members having BDZ level fire power on their own, keeping all the ships rather small means that if a planet really needs to be taken out it would have to be done with a few dozen members.
as for who gets what, just make a list and let us choose, as long as the ship has a hyperdrive and is below ISD level.

Even so, having that kind of power would be a large upset in the balance of power within the entire galaxy. The end result is likely (though not guaranteed) that the person will control the entire galaxy after all is said and done. How one goes about it is what makes the difference.Marko Dash wrote:the problem is that an Ex or worse an Eclipse is far to powerful for this type of scenario, you don't want rouge members having BDZ level fire power on their own, keeping all the ships rather small means that if a planet really needs to be taken out it would have to be done with a few dozen members.
Why not make your own thread, and pick the ships out of Wookiepedia carefully? Keep in mind, most people will pick the largest and most capable of destruction, so make your choices interesting.Marko Dash wrote:as for who gets what, just make a list and let us choose, as long as the ship has a hyperdrive and is below ISD level.
This is asinine. First off, why is everybody so intent on conquest of ANY scale? Whether it be a planet, a system, or whatever. 11 ships simply do NOT have the resources for that kind of thing, since they're completely alone in a foreign galaxy.Marko Dash wrote:If you wanted it to be interesting the best thing to do would be to have everyone on the board (like the original thread) be transported, but in smaller ships Carracks, dreads, Accs, maybe a VSD or 12, and have one World Devastator for every 300 members. Secondly, if this entire board is transported, why is anyone assuming we'd BDZ planets left and right? Do we suddenly turn "evil", or something? And realistically, any ship commands would at least be turned over to the Mess denziens, before someone like me. I'm a transportation dispatcher FFS! What about the rest of you?
*AHEM* I sell parts for Harley-Davidsons. I certainly could command an SSD. The Mess?! BAH!! Now, could someone please tell me where the bridge is...Lord Poe wrote:This is asinine. It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.

I'll take the Arc Hammer please. I'll be selling legions of implausibly deadly combat droids to the highest bidders within a couple of months, bound to be in demand once the rest of you burn through your shipboard stormtrooper contingents.

It has been estimated that 1% of the general male population consists of psychopaths. This board has thousands of members. That means there would be dozens of SSDs flying around commanded by psychopaths who now have little or no practical limits on their destructive tendencies.Lord Poe wrote:Secondly, if this entire board is transported, why is anyone assuming we'd BDZ planets left and right? Just look at the other thread. While Shep, of all people, is actually fairly reserved.
No, this is ridiculous. The only thing that makes the other thread interesting was the political interplay between the members. This is just "What would you do if you ran the ST galaxy?"rhoenix wrote:Even so, having that kind of power would be a large upset in the balance of power within the entire galaxy. No, not quite - it's "How would you bring the entire ST galaxy under your control?" The scenario may be overplayed, but I wanted to see how various people would go about it.Xeriar wrote:No, this is ridiculous. First, I'd set up as much infrastructure as I could around that black hole. Nobody's gonna come around there bothering me. I'd start mapping out the galaxy, and find some isolated system with a habitable planet and gas giants to make my base. From there, intercept as much information as I could, learn about the locals, their computer systems, and see if I could break in and steal maps, tech, anything useful. Build as much as I could in that system too. I have to get a industrial base going, and I imagine that building the refinery involves construction equipment that could also be used to build other things, like shipyards and space stations, given the raw materials.
When I'm ready, which is after the hypermatter refinery is up, I'd make contact with the locals with a single ISD, offer tech trades that don't include anything that will significantly harm me, and disperse intelligence agents.
I'd eventually set up my own empire, under the banner of peace and protection through superior firepower, and encourage immigration. First priority would be R+Ding ships similar to the carrack-class, good enough to overpower anything the Milky way has, but easy to build.
