David Bowie to appear in Doctor Who

The singer's spokesman denied he was set to hit the small screen next year, but a Doctor Who insider said: "Bowie said he'd be interested as long as he's not subjected to hours of disfiguring make-up."

As a bowie fan, I just have to say. Ziggytacular, totally Tom-like. (And I need a better Bowie-phrase)

Bowie was completely unrecognisable as Tesla - and it was a wonderful performance, too. I'll be looking forward to this.

He REALLY doesn't look 60, though.

Way back in 1999, he was was considered for the role of Elrond in the LotR trilogy and I always liked him in Jim Henson's puzzling Labyrinth (look at the way his tight spandex trousers bulged

).

If I was given a choice on who the next Doctor was going to be, it would be a close choice between Jason Isaacs and David Threlfall.

He was also in the running to play the Joker in the 1989 Batman movie. It might still not have been enough to save that movie's awful script, but Bowie would almost certainly have made a far better Joker than Nicholson.

(The again, a piece of dryer lint would have made a far better Joker than Jack Nicholson.)

David Bowie is actually a quite good actor in his own right, we just don't see enough of him on the big screen.
As for the next Doctor, I think it would be a hoot to have Tilda Swinton. Let the Doctor get a bit in touch with his feminine side, without it becoming ridiculous. She's sufficiently androgynous to pull that one off.

I have nothing against him and his guest appearance on Extras where he publicly humiliated Andy Millman when playing the piano was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen.

It should come as no surprise that he can act, given the theatrical nature of his musical career. He thrived for decades on completely reinventing his stage act and his public persona, and did it in a way that made the most prominent imitator, Madonna, look like a stupid slag.
