Current affairs & politics fourm

Post by Enlightenment »

There has been some talk in several corners about creating a current affairs and politics fourm, in part as a place to stuff MKS. :) Does this idea have merit?
It's not my place in life to make people happy. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to watch me slaughter cows you hold sacred. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to have your basic assumptions challenged. If you want bunnies in light, talk to someone else.

Well, that does tend to be pretty off-topic for this board, don't you think. ::Looks:: Well, I'll be . . . we already have an OT forum. Problem solved!

I'm not against the idea, just don't think it's needed.

Traffic is getting pretty heavy in off topic, many threads get bumped off the first page and ignored unless a discussion gets started right away. Many times I've found threads of interest to me 2/3's of the way down the front page by the time I can first log in each day.

I'd support a new forum, but only if there is a considerable majority in favor. We already have a lot of forums and one more would mean you could barely see the list of the main ones in one view. Already the full list with private forums takes up a couple screens for me.

There might be merit for this idea if traffic in OT gets so heavy that discussions can't get started fast enough because threads are being pushed onto page two. Don't know if that's the case yet.

I think this forum is good for that. Wouldn't mind seeing all of the sex threads moved somewhere else though...

I don't think we need it, really. Issues brought up that would apply to such a forum are being dealt with fairly well as it is.

Perhaps the better question would be: "Is the OT forum being over-crowded with 'me too' and 'I have a new title' and 'Post your favourite colour' threads?"
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

I think that while the points about new threads being bumped off are true, creating a current affairs forum might digress from the general theme of this board. An solution to this problem might be to create a small number of OT forums, e.g. current affairs and politics, real-life military, perverted crap :D , etc, and then lumping them together in the forum lists as "Off-topic", separate from the "Main" forums.
