Multiplayer Beta

Now open to all. Not seen much fanfare for it, but the new armies are a lot of fun. They play very differently than the original two.

Um...it's a game with gibbage and cursing. No shit it's going to be rated M. The original was, so this really shouldn't be a big fucking shock.

*Prods thread with stick*

I've been playing steadily for awhile now and I think I have the hang of the British for the most part, and I definitely know my way around Panzer Elite. Actually, it's rather funny; I have yet to see anyone else who does know how to use PE properly.

Granted, they're a relatively difficult army to learn and play effectively, but the prevailing groupthink seems to be trying to adapt vCoH tactics to the PE, trying to field a bizarre sort of "siege army" based around mortar halftracks, incendiary munitions, and teching up to Hummels and Jagdpanthers. I merely laugh at such foolishness.

In fact, I've hardly ever seen anyone use the basic PE halftrack, much less fill it with Panzer Grenadiers to perform high-mobility, high-intensity lightning strikes with virtually complete impunity. Wink wink, nudge nudge.

A big problem I find is that there are some maps (esp. the Whatever Gap) which is just 2-3 VERY painful choke points. Brits set up their heavy guns and its like shooting nazis in a barrel.

I've never had a problem with Hochwald. In fact more often than not we (as Germany) quickly bottle up the Brits on their island and give 'em what-for.

Now, the Scheldt I'll grant you has major issues. Correct Panzer Elite tactics are virtually impossible, and the map is so small that not only are Fallschirmjaeger too difficult to properly maneuver, but even non-Royal Artillery 25pdrs can hit most of the map from any position. And player 1's spot is the RTS equivalent of sitting bitch.

Yup. Hochwald Gap (8p). The Scheldt (6p) is that incredibly cramped one where all the bridges are destructible. It'd be a great map if it was a little roomier and perhaps had a ford or indestructible bridges going to the center VP island.

Maybe it's because around here, no one really give a damn about rating?

My brother was 10 when he bought the game, and the shop keeper hardly give a damn. Strange, but I don't think there is a anti-PC game crusade here.

My friends brother who is only 6 gets to buy GTA from the shop. Which is why I am so surprised.

The rating is stupid...in the end, you will still get plenty of people below the age limit playing the game.

Anyway, I've found a way to get pass the age limit. So problem solved.

I've just tried a few games of it playing as the Brits (but of course!) and really liked how different they've made them from other sides. Churchills (my favourite anachronistic tank ever) are awesome, particularly the AVRE variant, with it's petard mortar which can one-shot-kill pretty much any building, it seems. The canister shot rounds on the Stuart tanks are also nasty pieces of work, you can wipe out a small squad if you catch them in the open.

Some of the voice work is great too, apparently the British war machine was fuelled on the power of salty language. Some of it is pretty hilarious too (in a good way); After capturing a fuel dump I overheard an officer shout:
"Atkins! Fuel! And you're smoking a ciga-fucking-rette?!"

Then your shopkeepers are morons. I'm sorry, the ratings system is in place so that parents can know what the contents of a game are when they buy them for their kids. Kids don't have the right to buy whatever they want. Reference movie tickets, beer, cigs, etc. If the parent comes in and says "Sure, this is okay," that's one thing, but when a kid comes in and asks for GTA (and a fucking six year old at that), I would say no, get your parents and let THEM tell me it's okay after I explain to them what the game involves. When they learn that precious little Billy is going to be playing a game with explicit language, murder, sex, violence, and general not-niceness, they may rethink the purchase.

Yeah, a lot of parents might not give a shit, or they might feel that their kids are ready for it. However I'm reasonably sure most parents wouldn't feel that GTA is fucking appropriate for a god-damned six year old, just like most parents wouldn't take their fucking six year olds to go see "SAW" or any other gorefest movie. Or buy them a fucking sixpack and a carton of smokes, for that matter.

Well, a new patch is out. I only looked briefly at a few of the changes, but it looks like they're doing quite a bit of across-the-board buffing of PE. And they're buffing Fallschirmjaeger () - as if they need it, yikes! See the cropped pic I posted earlier.

I freaking love the Panzer Elite (guess Relic was skittish about calling them an SS Panzer Division). I tried to use conventional tactics my first game, but I quickly came to the conclusion that that was a lost cause, given their lack of buildable heavy armor. Sure you can call in Panthers, but that requires like all the buildings and their upgrades. What I do now that works really well is build a set of Panzergrenadiers and get them building the second building immediately. While that is under construction I start in with another set of Grenadiers. In the end I get two grenadiers moving out quickly on the attack, and the third unit I build is an infantry halftrack. Now they zoom around at will. Halftrack replaces infantry casualties and Panzergrenadiers repair the halftrack. Win win. I then go for the squad size upgrade and maybe a mortar halftrack depending on how the game is going. Panzerschrecks and anti-tank grenades comprise most of my AT. Sometimes I build a Marder if the situation warrants or some Hetzers if I am Tank Destroyer.

Fallschirmjagers rule. Any building on the map. I love it. Their grenade/panzerfaust ability takes forever to cool down though. Luftwaffe might be my favorite tree. While the Hummels are very nice, I sow much evil with Butterfly Bombs and that anti-tank airstrike is very nice if they throw a bunch of armor at you.

Well...the funny thing around here is, parents care MORE about movies rating than a game rating. Hell, I was playing doom when I was only four years old. Guess what? I don't find anything wrong with shooting monsters up, and neither did I kill anyone with a gun.

Unless the game involves EXPLICT sex, I doubt parents will mind too much. Drugs? You have no idea how hard is it for anyone to COME ACROSS drugs here. And I don't think any shop sells games that contains explicit sex. Or sex for that matter.

A game is just a game, parents don't mind games that involves killing here. Maybe it's because it is near impossible to touch a gun, or drive a car at 16 years old?

Unless the games is restricted to people below certain age, I doubt kids will buy games that involves blood and etc.

The only thing that parents mind...is how MUCH the games cost and how their children is addicted to the games.

And I doubt the six year old is going to complete the story line other simply running people down with cars.

Parents don't let kids see movies like SAW is because it is RESTIRCTED. You need to be either 16 or 18 to watch it. And the most people who is below the age limit and download them is at least mature enough which is around 15 or 14.

People in Singapore have been play games like Counterstrike since they are 7-8. And there isn't any criminal activity that has been related to games.

The only incident related to games is because a guy died from playing too much games and not moving at all.

This is why I don’t see why a person that is 17 needs a parent to make judgment for a GAME!

You have PG movies that involve swearing, and kids do not need anyone who is above 18 to watch with them.

Hell, my mom's friend's toddler LOVES Ultraman even if it involves monsters and humans getting killed on a episode basis.

Unless it is rated NC-16 and above, no one around here will care too much about games rating. Because it is just a game, and something which is near impossible to come across.

Oh, so because I think parents should be the ones saying if their kids should be playing violent video games or not, that suddenly makes me a proponent of the idea that such games make kids murders? Nice job with the strawman, dipshit. How about attacking what I'm saying, instead of what you seem to THINK I'm saying?

Unless the game involves EXPLICT sex, I doubt parents will mind too much. Drugs? You have no idea how hard is it for anyone to COME ACROSS drugs here. And I don't think any shop sells games that contains explicit sex. Or sex for that matter.
Really? I can name three games off the top of my head that have sex in them. God of War, Grand Theft Auto, and Playboy: The Mansion.

Technically the Sims as well, though obviously that's glossed over.

Moreover, the idea of you being able to determine what a parent should or should not find appropriate for their child, much less a six year old child, is laughable, since it's clear your maturity level is still that of a child by the way you're responding and your reaction to the age limit on the beta.
A game is just a game, parents don't mind games that involves killing here. Maybe it's because it is near impossible to touch a gun, or drive a car at 16 years old?
If a game is just a game, then a movie is just a movie, dipshit. Does it not occur to you that the CONTENT of a game is what some people may find objectionable? If a parent doesn't want their kid to play murder-gorefest 2000, that's their right AS PARENTS. Once the kid is grown up, something you've yet to do, they can buy whatever the fuck they want, but so long as you're a kid, you have limits on what you can and cannot do. If you don't like it, tough shit. Those restrictions are in place because as a kid, you generally can't make mature decisions on your own. You know who's a better judge of if you can make those decisions? Your parents. If THEY let you do something, hey, great. That doesn't mean that everyone is like you, or that everyone's parents are like yours.
Unless the games is restricted to people below certain age, I doubt kids will buy games that involves blood and etc.

The only thing that parents mind...is how MUCH the games cost and how their children is addicted to the games.

First off, you're a fucking moron. Second off, just because your parents don't give a shit over what you do is not the issue, kid. If your parents think it's cool for you to do anything you fucking want to, well that's their problem, not mine. The game ratings are a GUIDE to parents about what they want to allow into their house. Some parents, as I've mentioned, may be fine letting a six year old play an AO or M title, others might not let anything higher than T into their house until their kids can buy the stuff themselves. Note, dipshit, it's not illegal to show a rated R movie to a kid, but some parents might not think it's a fantastic idea. The reasons AREN'T just about imitated behavior, by the way, but how the parents want to introduce such topics as sex, violence, and substance use to their kids, or even something simple as nightmares. Christ, how fucking stupid are you?
Parents don't let kids see movies like SAW is because it is RESTIRCTED. You need to be either 16 or 18 to watch it. And the most people who is below the age limit and download them is at least mature enough which is around 15 or 14.
Way to fuck up again, cockslobber. You can rent any movie you want as an adult and show it to your kids if you want, the police won't bust in and arrest them. Similarly, if the parents want to take the kids to SAW, there's nothing stopping them. The KIDS can't buy the tickets because, shock, THEY'RE KIDS!

What's so hard about figuring out that games can be just as violent, disturbing, and disgusting as some movies? Why shouldn't they be held to a similar standard? So far your argument is that one is restricted and the other...is restricted but it doesn't matter because it's just a game.
People in Singapore have been play games like Counterstrike since they are 7-8. And there isn't any criminal activity that has been related to games.

The only incident related to games is because a guy died from playing too much games and not moving at all.
Blah blah blah, again with the strawman. It's not about games brainwashing kids to commit crimes, shithead. It's about what parents want (or don't want) to expose their kids to!
This is why I don’t see why a person that is 17 needs a parent to make judgment for a GAME!
Part of the reason is that you're not a parent, child. Something you should consider.

Christ, this whole thing was just one gigantic "lol games don't cause crimes" post. Not one part of it addressed what I was talking about, which is that parents should be the ones to control what media their children are exposed to. Games are a form of media just like movies are. Using the ESRB ratings as though they were movie ratings helps parents decide what they expose their children to. Just like movies, gaming store owners shouldn't sell children games above their age rating. It's just that simple. Movie ratings exist to help parents decide what movies to bring their children to. Game ratings exist to inform parents what sort of things they will be exposing their children to.

Fucking hell, it's not that hard. I wouldn't buy a six year old GTA? Why? I don't want them to play a game full of foul language, ultraviolence, and over the top sexual themes.

Why? BECAUSE THEY'RE FUCKING SIX YEARS OLD! THEY DON'T HAVE THE CAPACITY TO MAKE SENSE OF IT THE WAY AN ADULT CAN!

Christ, is that so hard to understand?
